Hey man, still playin around with these 96s but with enuff power, you’re gonna be growing some badass plants...still gotta do this scientifically, but here’s some quick & dirty to motivate you. Lookin especially good for 4 plants centered under lights.
16-18” height, individual 240h-54A, no elect info yet (havin probs with multimeter), no temp info yet
Ppfd needed:
Veg 300-600
Flower 600-1000

Don’t know exact number yet, but somewhere around 800. They’re each on a 240w driver.
I’m focused on light intensity and spread right now, but will get to driver settings soon.

Here’s an update on soil2coco’s 2x4, flipped on the 15th, flowering 14-16” under two 96s’ at about 160w each (40w/sqft), before and after 2nd defol:
A 96 per 2x2 is lookin good, when at least in pairs (cross lighting helps make this possible).

From what i’m seeing so far, i think these lights will work really well over 2x2 plants, slightly off-centered (with light closer to perimeter), spinning the plants 90-180 degrees daily, as long as multiple lights are used in combo at optimal spacing...doesn’t look like good enuff intensity spread to use them individually, they really need crosslighting effect of additional 96(s).
For example: a pair should give good results with daily spinning to give a balanced plant (or 2x2 scrog on wheels) with light intensity profile like this:
You can see this same effect in the ppfd map for 4 above...the crosslighting gives a higher intensity than on sides where no crosslighting...spinning plants evens this out, as well as light’s hotterspot...allowing for deeper penetration to plant’s center....useful for training method where taller mains are pulled to perimeter, exposing lower buddage in center...

When I first heard about these I didn't realize how small they were. It seems like strips and low powered COBs are a better option. Imo with LED spreading the light points out as much as possible makes sense. For example, 1000w of strips > 1000w puck
Yeah the only problem with that is it's at least double price shipping would probably be about double also if you used to same amount of money for these as you would a strip build I bet these would have great spread

We’ll see what the precise spread is when i get to the point of accurate/precise measurement.
But so far, the spread on an individual light is pretty narrow, big drop off after 9-10 inches from light.
BUT, the overlap of just 2 lights extends a strong intensity footprint between them such that you can have them 22 inches apart.
The q & d ppfd map above illustrates this for 4 lights in a 4x4. Basically you locate each of 4 lights 9” from the walls on two sides and 22” from lights on other two sides, and at 16” ht you get above 700ppfd at the walls and above 1000 in the 30x30” center... pretty good spread for 4 $99 lights with red boost (great flowering spectrum).

for strips you're talking between $5-600 for a 4x4.. 4 96s + drivers = 550-650..
And unless digikey changed shipping, they used to have flat rate shipping option fwiw. The strips will have a more even light distribution instead of the hot spots or dark corners.
In my head I saw getting a couple of these on a 320 in a 3x3.. seeing the actual numbers you would need 3 for proper spread. I have a couple Vero builds and theyre fine but I much prefer the strips.. Its looking like its a similar issue with these.
Yeah exactly you could probably even get 6 of these for the price of a comparable strip build or cob build seems like these would be better unless you have some crazy height restrictions

This is what I've been thinking since they were announced. Don't think these are really suited for tent grows. Perhaps these would be more appropriate for warehouse setups.

We’ll see, but if i had to do it today, i’d rebuy my eight 288s & supplementals, not cuz they’re necessarilly better, but cuz they are already proven.. lol

I have a feeling that by strip build you mean a ghetto build with some L channel or a baking sheet and no reds...that's alot different than this I understand the spread issue i have like 40 quantum boards and a par meter. It's just not a fair to compare 2 totally different products
