Firstly a confession then more help needed

Firstly I need to confess! When I first joined this forum I thought it was a tad unfriendly, maybe because I am from the UK, whatever I don't know, but to be truthful I couldn't have been more wrong. The help I have had from you lads has been incredible (is calling you guys "lads" offensive in US?, it's a northern England thing an 80 year old man is still a lad , just an old lad).

Ok more help needed. My transition from coco to RDWC has been far from smooth,lost a full crop of 8 plants, just un harvestable no bud just light airy leavefy buds. Leaving that aside ( I am going to post a new thread to try and find out where I was going wrong).

I have been getting rust along the veins of leaves and just not sure what it is. Please see pics.

At first I thought I was seeing pm & bugs, now looking at the underside I don't really know what I'm seeing but I still think both of those issues could possibly be what's happening??

a picture of the whole plant would help, but for now I'm agreeing with bugs and I don't know what that white stuff is yet?

The silvery blotches indicate thrip damage, which may or may not be contributing to the chlorosis.

I'd concentrate on getting rid of the bugs and you may find that this clears up the slight nutrient deficiencies. SMC spider mite killer works well for me, it's cheap, it's natural oils give the plants health a boost, kills the bugs and makes your grow room smell great.

I've no experience with RDWC, but running DWC in a similar climate to you gave me all kind of humidity problems, I gave up after 3 mediocre runs and finally contracting powdery mildew.

I do think I have had thrips but there aren't any flyers.

The plants are down now and a complete write off.
Roots were OK I think brown but not to bad, I have posted a thread with pics.

I was feeding at 1.6 ec 800 ppm with 10 lpm of air through micro bubble stones so maybe overfeeding. PH was constantly dropping and they were not drinking much. canopy leaves were very dry and brittle. Some yellowing from bottom up. 600w HPS with adjusta wing hoods at 18 inches high.

That far in I would have finished those, that's not even a severe infestation!? Sorry you chose that but I wish you the best in your next run, spray everything down first to kill the bugs, and follow pesticide directions to get the eggs that might hatch later, good luck

Edit: I don't mean this in a bad way but where you've not had success twice hydroponically soil is a much easier medium to work with, maybe get a few successes with soil under your belt and then try Hydro again down the road?

I never spot flyers, not even on my blue sticky traps, but if you've got those silvery patches on your leaves they are a definite indicator of thrip infestation(Disclaimer,some foliars such as aloe vera can leave similar looking patches).

Also, brown roots are never good, no matter what other people may tell you, roots should be white. Are you using a chiller?

Coco or hempy's are also a little easier to control IMHO

I am thinking it may be calcium deficiency. I have soft tapwater and was feeding Cal/mag at half dose. This along with low PH.

Can plants lock out calcium?

Thanks for your replies.
Been using Shogun nutes but changed to GH Flora trio.
I have been growing quite successfully for 2 years in coco so sort of served my time.
I have problems keeping nutrient temps up just now as I grow in out building North UK. I have aquarium heaters in there and run at 17-18. Altough my temps are low I couldn't rule out the rot as I did have it in my smaller system where they start off. I will have some tea on the go for my next grow.

This is my take on it. I've learned just enough to be dangerous!! I think I may have had slight root rot which made the PH drop and locked out calcium plus I was only feeding cal at half strength.
I was just adding a splash of Hydroguard when I remembered after the initial full dose.
