Why are so many new growers choosing blurple/led over hps/mh??

Absolutely and use one, they're a must, that is for sure.
Ime, hps is a lot harder to manage the heat without aircon.

Efficiency wise, hps is the choice for me, because it heats my space.
Summer I'm outdoors, because i don't have aircon. In the event I did, led would still be my choice for efficiency. Imho I'd be saving quite a bit of money on the bill, for the same result.

Downfall of using an aircooled hood (and i have one and have used it) is you do lose approx 10% of your produced light due to the glass. 10% is a fair bit.

I just got myself a 600w hps. Would you say HPS is decent for a first couple of grows? If so what would you reccomend for an improvement after a few grows?

Not sure I really need closer/more intensity. Last plant in flower is under 1k hps getting blasted @ 70k lux, and I could still move the hood down 10" before heat became an issue.

My mate did a few grows with his viparspectra tc1200, none went well, he gave me the burple for free. Did his first hps grow and got dank bud. I decided to save the vipar as a veg light if i ever do perpetual grow and use a hps.

I'm useing viparspectra tc900 and I'm doing good first time ever having a flowering plant so this will be my first harvest RQS diesel auto is the strain dont mind the dead plants in the back ground been busy over holidays at work was growing herbs too but I stop caring for them haven't cleaned them out yet but for my first ever harvest I think I'm doing good

I normally ran my 600wHPS with the hood at 12 inches but middle of winter i could run it at 6 inchers. I took the glass off in winter of cause.
Mine was pulling ambient air not outside air like the guy in the clip with the rather large room. If Humidity was low then even at 12 inchers i could see slight leaf stress as the leaf temp does climb.
Im in one of the cooler placers in Australia and not dealing with 30 to 45C plus in summer like majority of the country. The guys in Adelaide and Darwin who grow inside are troopers IMO.

What is the smell like? My mate grew over a KG of NL from RQS with a 1200 viparspectra, but he said it never started to smell, and even after the drying process it didn't.

He has since done grows with HPS and says his tent stinks even with a carbon filter.

He has given me the vipar, but after seeing the reviews, I have bought a HPS instead. Might use the vipar for a veg tent in the future.

Plus the replacement of those air-cooled hoods those don't come for free those costs have to be factored in it could probably double the cost of running hps vs the cheapest hood available... I was really hoping someone would try to say this I love when hps guys try to act like all this extra stuff is free. Oh yeah also how many watts is the fan that has to be added to use the light? Maybe like 100w? You can go ahead an add that onto the power draw of the lights before figuring out gpw that 100w of air cooling is already almost an 10 percent increase of the original wattage of that light
