Let's debate! 24/7 or 18/6 for VEG?

I keep seeing that 24/7 lights for VEGGING is bad, they say it causes males, so I am told. I tried 18/6 and thought it took much longer and grew slower, I just didn't get the inch a day grow with 18/6 that I got with 24/7 in my Hydro.
BUT YES, I did and do get half males from seed with 24/7.
I for one will never do 18/6 again, but I would like to hear opinions from the voice of experience. I own a library on pot growing, and they all are about 60/40 leaning toward 24/7.
I am talking about INDOOR growing, of course.

24/7 or 18/6???

it's whatever u wanna do 24/7 18/6 they still veg cycles... it's whatever u like.... i do 18/6 i like it >>> jus like half everybody like 24/7..i think it's bull shit that a certin light cycle put's out more females than others...a reg seed has 50/50 chance of being female or male

Last batch was on 18/6 - this lot were on 24/7 -

This lot seem to be very slow to flower (2 weeks on 12/12 now)

I'm starting to wonder if this is something to do with them being on 24/7 to veg.

Plants need the dark period. There are certain things that happen to the plant in complete darkness that cannot happen if 24/0 is present. Nature has a dark cycle, nless you live in Alaska :mrgreen:It may "grow" faster in veg, but when flowering comes its not ready to revert.
This may lead to longer flowering or less bud (if 18/6 was there the root mass would be bigger/bigger stems/supporting bigger nuggets)

How do you do 24/7? Aren't there only 24 hours per day? :-P

Ok, just bein' a smart aleck.

Working on my first indoor grow, have the lights on 24/0 photoperiod for a couple of reasons. First, I took clones after flowering (I think it's a waste of my time and energy to clone an unsexed plant, force that clone into flower, to then re-force it back into veg IF it's a female. Fuck all that, wait til they show then clone just the girls), using a 24/0 cycle makes forcing back to veg easier. Second, I've only just gotten a timer and the grow room is downstairs. This leads to a third issue, that being that I am forgetful at times and so it's easier to leave the lights on a 24/0 cycle. Fourth, there's a little bit of laziness factoring in.

when growing inside we are trying to mimic nature. in nature the sun goes down. then after the dusk period it gets dark. in the dark temps go down to releve things from the day time heat. the debate over 18/6 vs 24/7 will never be resalved its up to every grower to make their owen oppion on witch is better. you have to do the pros & con for your siuation. as far as witch is better they both get the end result that we look for(plants grow mature so we can flower them later in there life to get buds). may every one be cursed with many buds.

I got a problem. Three babies about 5 days into flowering. Two actually are flowering. The one thats not hasn't shown any signs of sex no signs of preflower stage even dont know what do....advice anyone?????

I had mine on 18/6, switched to 20/4 today, will go back to 18/6 a week or two before I flower. I like the dark period for root development. I grow in organic soil, so I don't know if it doesn't matter as much in hydro or not.

Right i'm on my fourth grow and have started vegging 23/1 at the moment and am seeing great results in terms of plant growth and health, but have used 18/6 in the past three grows and seen good results it just took longer.
I'm now thinking of keeping it on 23/1 for the next 2 weeks or so)been vegging a week now) then lowering to 18/6 for a week then flower just to give them a rest and adjust to the dark periods because 11 extra hours of dark straight away will cause stretching and stress i'm of the opinion.
If this works well and I think it will, it will be my grow method for the foreseeable future, 23/1 for rapid starting growth and less stretching(I have my veg 200w fluro on 24hrs)when first transferred to HPS room, knock down to 18/6 for the last week or so of veg then flower with good ol' 12/12.
Got 14 Northern Lights in presently so i'll report back on how it goes:peace:

Good friend of mine does 20/4. They grew very quickly and when he switched to flowering 12/12 all 11 plants were flowering and showed sex identity within the week. He got 6 females, 4 males and one went Hermie down the road.;-)

im doing 24/0 for this grow now for the temps (freezing out) faster growth and good results so far

I have not read all the replies so apologies in advance if im repeating shit in other posts.

My understanding of this subject is exactly like what you wrote,what i gather is that above ground grows in the daylight faster than in the dark cycle,below ground grows faster in the dark cycle over light cycle.

The main benifit that i can gather from running an 18/6 cycle is a more developed root system.
