Chapter 9: The Pheno Hunt
Day 81
Day 60 of 12/12

Day 60! Like I've said before, let the magic begin. I've got a mix of shots tonight. A couple groups shots. A few App Super Skunks. A few Goji's. A few Chems. A nice little sampler platter. I tried to shoot one of the shorter Chem's with a 2 liter bottle to give some perspective but they are only so-so. Might try placing the bottle behind the plant or maybe try shooting from above.

I figure most of these will go 10 to 11 weeks. And most of the Chem's will go a full 12 weeks.

I can't help myself - I have to give another shout out to @Houstini - thank you again for the Bodhi Goji "can't cola" OG's :)

Chapter 9: The Pheno Hunt
Day 86
Day 65 of 12/12

Cruising right along. I tried to capture some shots of an entire table from above but they didn't turn out well. We're just going to go around the room and shoot plants that look interesting for this post. Some of them are starting to get the really beautiful fall colors on their fan leaves. But most of them are still in full blown bloom mode. I won't even bother looking at trich's until day 71 (Sunday) but from what I see, I'd say that the Appalachian Super Skunks are going to finish 1st - sometime early next week which would be day 72/73 ish. The Goji's will likely be next and spread out over that week. The Chem's are going to be last and most of them will go another 14 to 17 days, most likely. April 1st was my original target - should be close.

In no particular order:

Day93
Day 72 of 12/12

Things are coming to an end. I began chopping a plant here and a plant there on Saturday and I'm left with about half of the plants. A few of them could certainly go another week but I think it's fine.

On Day 70, I graded all of the plants. They all got either an A, B, C or D. The few that would have gotten an F were already killed.
I've decided that my selection process can only include plants from the A and B category. I'll still send all of the samples to my reviewers, but if anything from C or D scores exceptional, I will not consider it. My grading scale focuses mostly on flower development and shape, sensitivities to nutrients and general overall plant health. I'm just not interested in keeping some sickly odd looking plant just because it reviews exceptionally well. I'll keep sifting, thank you.

Here's the breakdown: (Keep in mind, finding a Chem keeper is top priority.)

Chem:
(3) Scored an A
(3) Scored a B
(1) Scored a C
(2) Scored a D

Appalachian Super Skunk:
(2) Scored an A
(1) Scored a B
(1) Scored a C

Goji OG F2:
(2) Scored an A
(2) Scored a B
(2) Scored a C
(1) Scored a D

It's going to take a long time before I get the reviews back ~ 3 1/2 months I estimate.
I figure 2 weeks of hang dry, 2 weeks of pre-cure, 6 weeks of cure. That puts me at 10 weeks before I can even ship samples. 4 weeks minimum after that to get all of the results in.

So...here is the plan. If you recall, I bought a fridge dedicated to clones. I've been holding clones of all of these in cold storage since the end of January. I'm going to pull out 2 clones from each plant and try and get them going. Having never stored clones this way, I don't know if it's going to work. So I'm going to keep all of the plants from groups A and B and attempt to reveg them, in the event the clones don't work.

In the meantime, I've started seeds for Chapter 10 which consists of only 2 varieties:
Mountain Temple from Bodhi and Green Crack. I never got the old school Mass seeds I was promised - oh well, move on.
By the time reviews come back, I'll hopefully have living plants in veg to select from based on the reviews.

The plants I've already chopped were the ones that were clearly done. The pictures tonight are what is left. They range from mostly done to almost done.

Hell yeahhh Diggity! The remaining plants look killer and I'm sure you'll have some happy reviewers on your hands soon enough haha

I bet you get those clones rooted. I'd probably start more than two per plant if I were you and if resources weren't limited ect but maybe that'd be over kill since you're simultaneously revegging.

You must have a keeper in there somewhere

Have you heard of Lucky Dog seed co? People seem to be pretty hyped on his chem offerings...apparently hes kept a cut for 20+ years. Thinking about getting a pack

Ok, thanks man. I'll start at least 3 clones from each then. I've never done cloning so this will be yet another thing to learn and master. They've been in cold storage for about 2 months now - I sure hope they root. I'd prefer to not have to rely on the reveg approach. It's just a fail-safe.

I sure hope I do have a keeper. My review process is incredibly strict though. You could pick 10 random plants I grow that all look amazing, and on average, only 1 out of 10 will be a potential keeper. So we'll see!

I decided to let the last remaining plants go a little longer - they are not quite ready yet.

The ratings you give your plants could be due to differing phenotypes. Is that a problem when you are growing from seed?

Day 95
Day 74 of 12/12

This will be final update for Chapter 9
(Not including dried and cured colas which will be coming)

All of the remaining plants will be harvested over the next 2 days. The seedlings for Chapter 10 are doing well and I'm ready to pull clones from Chapter 9 out of cold storage and see what kind of success I can have rooting them.

Some final pics for y'all!

My dry room is dialed in. 70F and 62%. I'd prefer a few degrees colder but I'm unable to right now. This space will be a lot fuller in 2 days!
