Almost 6 weeks Veg only 5 inches tall, very little foliage.

I've always wanted to spend some time training. Come to the conclusion that I simply don't have the patientce. At six weeks from germination I was here.

I don't know how I'd handle having a tiny bunch of stem in the same timeframe.

It would be pretty cool to have ultimate symmetry to please my OCD though.
 
Thanks much for sharing, I'm taking notes ! Your mainline is a work of art, nicely done. I'll be trying something similar next grow, but for now mine is a mini verison of yours. Is your grow up as a journal somewhere? I'd love to watch this one unfold.

Here is an example of how "out of control" things got for me in my last grows. The other thing I noticed was that only the main stems, not the lesser stems, produced buds that weighed 10X more than the lesser stems)... As a new grower, I ignored people that said to get rid of the lower and smaller stems, I see why now. They arent worth a dam in weight and potency ! There were also way too many leaves and it got out of hand defoliating---such a waist of soil resources to be tossing away huge bundles of good leaves..

Here is one of my main tops trimmed with a wet weight of almost 2 ounces. I'm hoping I get 8 big juicy colas similar to this mainling. This top came off a main chute, same strain.

Here she is out of control and way too big for my small pot ( 3 gallons) --- The roots got so thick I had problems later in flower, I'm thinking not enouh soil for the plant size and too many nutrients for such a small amount of soil. It was A LOT of work to train this mess, but I did get the tops even in height. Mainlining makes this so much easier !

And here is a final pic of the problems I'm trying to avoid this grow. I made it to harvest, but things got really rough. I'm hoping less tops. more soil, and less nutrients keeps my plant healthy in flower. We will see....

Nice ! that looks like a healthy grow and you've got the tops nice and even. Now you have some hard work keeping them even ! I think after the initial work with mainlining, you have less work playing " whack-a-mole" later.. (constantly beating down the high tops so they dont become dominant. )

I made the mistake of topping my plant too early and should have let it get its roots down a little bit better, so I'm definatley way behind, but thats OK. Its funny you posted this, I just put a picture up a minute ago with a previous grow that was not mainlined that is similar.

I make sure it’s a flat plant with no vertical grow right until I flip. The last important lesson I learned was to create enough space for each branch. Initially I would go for as many branches as possible and it would be saturated and the branches would just be going into eachother. That causes the dominant ones to overpower the smaller ones and even though some of them were the earlier, older and stronger branches they would simply be disabled and stay beneath the canopy and not give any proper bud.

More isn’t necessarily better, now I have reduced the number of branches and make sure that each has some space to develop.

Lol, its funny how little the original starting leaves matter. Thats crazy 10 days later ! Looks amazing !

I flipped 12/12 around 4 days ago, a little early but I'm worried she'll explode (like yours did) soon. If I could do it all again I'd slow her down more and go a full 8 weeks in Veg mainlining.

Are you going to use a ring to guide the colas?

I have to stop giving my shit away so I've got time to train and create a masterpiece without running out of weed lol.

I'm always in such a rush. I need to learn to sit back and enjoy the ride. It's always a race when it comes to me plants for some reason.

I thought I could be a bit early telling a fellow growme I would like another foot.
Then then last few days it’s been a couple inches a day.
Very happy with there size now as the lights can only penetrate so deep

I was considering a scrogg net , but I hate to limit my ability to get near the back. So just string across my shelving pieces will do the trick.

I'm growing one plant at a time and cant smoke my weed fast enough! Its piling up and I give away buds all the time. I have a few big northern lights buds left from 2 grows ago and they have been curing over a year now ( too long)

If I grew anymore than one plant at a time, It would be a waist of good weed.

When you talk about starter leaves, I can guarantee you the more of the primary’s you can leave on the better until it’s well established. Cut suckers, branches yes but leaving those solar panels on till it gets to the ready for flower size is the best thing imho.

I dont like the nets either and was thinking of using a ring something similar to this. With 8 tops, I can pull them all out from center so that they have room to breath and get light. At least that's the plan----Stan....

Lol, I think your right and I learned the lesson the hard way over doing it... But I think the Veg stage when mainling is more about getting the frame of the plant right before letting it take off.

My plant is still struggling to get her roots down after transplant and those big fan leaves I removed coulda helped with that. Hey, I'm learning !

Yep, and I bet you can remove the ring in the last few weeks of flower to let them move in a bit (under better light).... I've noticed that the plants like to crowd themselves (silly things).... If done right, they will move in on their own. The ring will get them started in the right place.

I like symetrical things, always have.... Mainlining is great

Mainling is a bit more work but I am hooked on this therapy.

I'm not sure, my last three grows were a lot of work to train and to clean up. I'm thinking mainiling is way easier and saves a lot of work. Hell, all I have to do now is guide the 8 tops out equally, they are already staying nice and even in height. it's cruise control for me pretty soon. Love it !
