If I understand this process from a glance, it reduces aluminum in kind of a redox action. Aluminum production is energy intensive, and it can be recycled. This turns it back into alumina? Seems to violate the conservation of energy rule. I guess it makes economic sense on one level, but there seem to be more sustainable approaches to hydrogen production using solar energy either directly or in combination with PV

to the bolded: why?

incidentally, making aluminum metal is not carbon-neutral. Even if the large amount of electricity is green, the process usually consumes large graphite electrodes.

I just had a quick read, but production of aluminum is energy intensive and the energy into the system must be more than what comes out as either power or hydrogen.

I consider it more of a fuel cell or battery and how much more efficient is it, energy wise than PV or solar hydrogen reactors and there have been breakthroughs recently in both. It is not a primary source of power and all mined materials in nature are already reduced with oxygen, except for organic coal and oil. I'm sure it has it's uses though and might sell.

The net reaction of aluminum with water is quite exothermic. There’s a lot of stored energy in the metal. Makes it useful in solid rocket fuel and explosive compositions.
There has been work on Aluminum air batteries too, but a lot of energy was put in at the smelter and arc furnace to get it to that high energy state.

Biden administration offers $12B to convert auto factories into EV plants
The Biden administration will put up to $12 billion into converting auto manufacturing facilities into plants for hybrid and electric vehicles, it announced on Thursday.

Automakers will be able to receive loans or grants to convert their factories into those that make plug-in electric, hybrid, or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm told reporters on Thursday.

A total of $10 billion will come from the Energy Department’s Loan Program Office and an additional $2 billion coming from Inflation Reduction Act grants. The loan program was also bolstered by the Democrats’ climate, tax and healthcare bill.
The Department will also make an additional $3.5 billion available for domestic battery manufacturing that was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

“For a hundred years, America has been home to the best automakers in the world. We have got to be using their will and their skill to dominate the global EV market,” Granholm said.

Broadly, the Biden administration has sought to advance more fuel efficient vehicles and a shift toward electric vehicles as part of an effort to combat climate change through funding opportunities, tax credits and regulations.
A proposed rule from the Environmental Protection Agency projects that, if it is implemented, two-thirds of new vehicle sales could be electric by 2032.

The Energy Department said that both sets of funding announced on Thursday will prioritize good working conditions, including facilities that pay high wages and commit to retaining or expanding collective bargaining agreements. However, there will be no specific requirements needed to get the funding, Betony Jones, the director of the office of energy jobs confirmed.

That announcement comes as labor concerns bubble up in the transition to clean energy — with the United Auto Workers union accusing industry of using the transition to cut wages and pushing the Biden administration to do more about it.

I'd try Dog if given the chance but I'm not sure i could try cat.

You North or Ireland? I was lucky enough to go to Ireland and Northern Ireland in the early 90s. Expensive place (i was backpacking) but i loved it. The people were so friendly. Had no trouble getting lifts hitch hiking.

Just came across a camel recipe. ;)

I'm very glad that you enjoyed Ireland, even though the North is still Btit technically, that's why it was more expensive that the real Ireland in the South, or Eire as it is called in Gaelic.
The North uses that shite called the British pound still and the South of Ireland uses the EU note as it's currency.
My heritage started in the Norh but had it's land taken away and given to Protestants by Cromwell in the 16th century.
They were banished to the West of Ireland which is noted for it's abundance of rock and not much else besides sheep and potatoes.
We are like a little Idaho in that respect.
Obviously you've never had a properly prepared cat and we would have to really be in dire straits to eat the same shite as the those savages in Korea.
If you want me to share some of my recipes with you just PM me and I'll give you a few of my favorites such as kitty fricassee which is really succulent served with cabbage almondine and a few spuds.
Let me know LL and I'll turn you on to some serious cat food.
You'll love it.
This is a good tune to play while you do your preparations for dinner.

Tough guy. His hatred of gay and trans kids is not the real reason he is at war with Disney. It's because they are such terrible height supremist. You know, having to be so tall in order to ride a ride. He was 13 before he could ride Space Mountain, and he never really got over it. He's been biding his time all these years.

Yeah, I can attest to that one. My husband been working right on the gulf coast outdoors the past month and started getting extremely bad heartburn and bloating and nausea. One day he came home and his belly had expanded to like a 6 month pregnancy and I was terrified!! He went back down 10’lbs in a weeks after the weather changed.
It drains ya and is exhausting, the older you are the worse it is. Make sure the electrolyte levels are up and lots of salt and fluids, coming home to AC helps recovery quite a bit.
