The Space Cabinet

Decided to water it and it perked back up, leaves went from crispy to more flexible. So perhaps was under watered and already needs to be every couple days.

I also decided to prune back to 4 main nodes that are now even and normal looking. The mutant banch had leaves that were double sided. Nothing to lose at this point so might as well mess around, see what happens.

Those mutant branches werw growing all messed up, doubt normal bud would grow out of it.

Anyone know why the new growth has brown on it? Looking slightly lime green like nutes are almost depleted. Water schedule is all over the place, was every day for two days then every other day now every 3rd day and am guessing the right frequency is somewhere in between there.

It perked up a few times along the way as well as drooped a little from perhaps over watering and under watering. Hard to do in such small pot and new dirt grower that never went this small before. Hope the pot isn’t too small but I did prune the crap out of it. Joulers loop to check for bugs on leaf, see none.

Pretty sure the loop shows a very early calyx as it is day 33 so should show something very soon. Last run took like 35-40 days to show calyx and pistols. I expected it to be slightly late switching.

It is stretchin, perkin and flowerin! The cable studs behind plant are a good way to monitor daily growth and could be used for lst which I may do since two nodes need to be further apart. Zoom in to see the preflower!

So it is a female GG#4 auto by auto seeds, here we go! Waters every 1-2 days. Day 34. Hoping the stretch replaces some vigor so I don’t end up with a twig but I think I might. Should stretch daily for 2.5 weeks, will see.

The suggestion for up potting might of been the better route although had this been the 2nd and 3rd node and not mutated, it would of been larger. 1st node grows too slow for this scenario and often times does, I just had such a massive first node last grow I forgot not all plants grow good first nodes. It was coco too which is vigorous.

Update, transplanted yesterday. 1 gallon pot. Lst with wire tied to cable wall anchor. Nice to see those put to use. Plant unexpectedly grew out of desired shape, too close together. Plant is in permanent position.

It was almost top dressing time so transplanted in half a gallon more of ffof. Tall/narrow pot so roots can grow down into the new soil.

Last second decision that someone talked me into and now that the old pot is outside cabinet, each time I walk by it I am like wow that is small. Hoping for bigger leaves and buds but trying to stick to the plan.

RH% is already starting to get higher, little by little. Bedroom has faint smell of goodness.

Some sugar on leaves already which I don’t recall happening this early, hmm. Usually see sugar when pistols are shooting everywhere closer to mid flower.

Added a cloth for a dust filter. Getting dusty in there, about to dust cloth it down some. Growing pistols everywhere, getting close to mid flower. Stretching daily. Over watering, been trying to wait at least 3 days to water again.

It perks when it dries so thinking I am over watering but it was needing to be watered daily or every other day in last pot. Lollipopped to keep it 4 colas. Humidity already hitting 50% so I think that was still a good idea keeping it 4 main colas. It is hard reaching into there so that helps too, keeping it a simple structure.

The little square right under the hygrometer which is a double sided tape, holding the mylar. That is the canopy limit for the ufo led. Once surpassed, ufo needs to dim to avoid burning, foxtailing etc.

So it is already time to put the “space” in space cabinet and turn on the space lights. Ufo went from 40% on to 25% intensity just about. To be next to off setting in next week or two. Space lights on 50%.

So major update as well as it stretched over night notably and is doing better when soil is on the dry side. Unloading pics and will update in about a week from now. It is taking off!

Just going to update a day early, need to delete photos building up. So it stretched but leafs are showing signs of something. Not in good state but lets see what comes of it.

Close to mid flower, this auto took like 3 weeks to get to juuust about start of mid flower. Not even there yet, like a week more before start of mid flower.

Weekly update. It stretched a few inches this week with last few days being notably the most, so it probably will stretch a lot more which is good, they have all the space to grow which I plotted for this time. Tall, narrow, 4 cola plant that is space lit.

Dimmed ufo to near off setting, ~250ppfd and space lights are on 100% ~150ppfd 2” away. Close to mid flower, any day now.

I had underwatering issues and learned to water more often and not let soil dry back too far. Temps are rising from strip lights, steady 80F and 30-40%RH no dehuey on just yet.

Update, week 9, mid flower started few days ago I would say. First sugar and buds coming in. Watering every 2 days to keep soil at a healthy moisture level. Top dressed this past week about half inch to an inch of fresh ffof. Still seeing spots on leaves but it speeds up or slows down all this time since first noted.

Starting to take photos with normal lighting, forgot that it is a pain to see under certain hues of bright lights.

Rest of the pics for 8/18’s update. I forgot to show that I have mylar on one of the access doors so it can reflect light since that side lacks strip lighting. The middle fan cannot be turned on without giving plant a seizure due to touching fan, with it inside out but when facing toward plant it is too direct.

It can perhaps aim downwards when those leaves shed off and stems stretch a little more so it is just the bottom of buds that fan is blowing directly at. Otherwise everything installed was used.

Lower fan has tin foil on pot so fan can blow without drying out pot but is not turned on just yet. Still figuring out how I want the fans set up, maybe middle one is not needed. Hoping the front left cola stretches, it is much shorter than the rest otherwise aside from dying leaves, everything is coming together.

Friday update day. Welp, 90 RH in home and 70 in grow room and not even trying to look at hygro meters in tents. Powers out which I oh so knew would happen one these days. Just sitting with doors open in the dark.

Mid flower aint the best time for that but aint the worse either, bud rot and mold usually come in late flower and on, theres like no buds yet but could always get surprised. So here are photos leading up to wednesday.

I looked into power banks to find it costs too much just to not even have enough power to power a few fans for set time that needs sunlight to recharge so it cannot go long on a power bank. Best off buying gas generator. Before that, I turned the bottom fan on and dehuey at 45% running minimally. 10% gap in temps and humdity, on 24/0. 73-83F 35%-45%Rh.

Update. I got a rosin press, just crawling as far as I can go with this and this will be my first home grown fresh pressed. I will call it Space Jam. A good fit considering this is a whole different type of grow with weak ppfd and airy buds that could yield 4 gs rosin or roswell hehe.

Anyway, I been recently throwing a dab of maxi into a water bottle and feeding it lightly to see if I can get it to stop eating itself. Taking less pics as buds are taking a while to grow and every pic looks the same. Hoping to get to 70% orange hairs at least.

I think it needs to be watered daily now instead of every 2nd day, drying out fast. How many times I skip feed and use plain water, we will see via visual ques. Same temps and rh conditions, dehuey running minimally, 35 pints filling in a week or two. Depends on what conditions it battles daily.

Update, the use of ffof and untreated tap water of ph 8.3 and top dressing with more ffof is not working out for me. So I had a problem thread that concluded I would ph tap water to drift between 6-7 and sterilize soil in a drench of peroxide for few days then reinoculate with growers recharge. Was charged on 9/6 to wait a week before giving more.

Hoping I keep making it through, I may very well get to harvest something, there already is something. Smells good when touched a little bit, I know to refrain from that but wow it will be dank. Press standing by to make rosin right away.

It will be 8 and half weeks flowering as of this friday the 15th. So orange hairs are starting, like 10% - 20%. The buds have hard tips like they do in ripe. Making it surprisingly far, thinking of chopping at 90% orange hairs to avoid rot and mold due to poor plant health.

Wish I knew what went wrong with my soil grows but this was worth it, I can likely press a good amount of rosin out of this as I practiced a bit with store bought and have a good clue what to do.

Looking like success but wont hold breath on it as mold can always strike but the rh has been low and not an issue. I must of screwed up royally to get the mold and rot I got last time. So like 30 days til chop I would say! Excited, smells great!

Can see the orange hairs better with lights off flash on. Also more of the bud itself. Hard to see the yield as it is that small haha. I ordered some supposedly stronger strip lights and will see how that does.

Tempted to ditch soil and connect this to my dtw coco setup and run coco. Bothers me so much that the leaves died, I could do way better in coco.

Maybe the fan an caused wind burn on the leaves. Maybe heat from the light. Maybe the 37% humidity. Next time try and keep the plants flat canopy

Maybe the fan an caused wind burn on the leaves. Maybe heat from the light. Maybe the 37% humidity. Next time try and keep the plants flat canopy

The top fan was the only one on this whole time, the bottom one was on for few days then off for clones to sit there and because I did suspect wind burn but if you see from the beginning I been having leaf issues that are consistent with deficiencies then curling up and dying. Fans were always pointed indirect and leaves barely moving. Fan on low.

I been seeing people say vpd is over rated and I can see why but I could up the dehuey to 45-50% for humidity I just suspected a spike in flower at some point but I guess that only happens when you sardine pack a space. I lost a plant for packing canopy too tight so I culled this one knowing I was going to have that or quality issues for lack light exposure.

Heres pics of my last attempt (first attempt) in 2 gallons coco. Keeping canopy flat was impossible unless I prune new growth until end of stretch which is not ideal. The whole flat canopy idea was not ideal. PITA to reach inside already as is and was near impossible this way, I snapped branches by mistake all the time from it.

It was already in its canopy height limit at that photo and considered it a bad idea. Was just a smaller version of a mess up I had and I dont not want mold in my rosin or weed undetected because how small and subtle it can grow. Pretty sure this style setup gives me more yield too. A fan should be there, if I removed it and packed a bushy canopy that could spell trouble.

Hard to setup a fan and plant, this 1x1 is considered a challenge in itself but is possible. I am actually trying to beat it with a unique structure I have not seen before. Or isnt common thats for sure.

Chemdog Auto by Auto seeds is next up, if it pops. Doing the next one in coco. I really want to see the best I can grow in this box and also get to do a whole run in coco in the box which it is ready to convert to at any time.

Taking much less photos next time to make the journal short and sweet though was nice to see how I structured the plant if to use one cola training. Especially on an auto. Thing grew 3x its starting size.

I bought supposedly stronger strip lights that are 2-3 times brighter. 3000k. 50 watts but want to extend it to like 75 because it is also 2-3 times shorter light strip. SMD 2835 LED 26k lumen.

So I used a lux meter app that seems to be accurate with grain of salt. “light meter lm-3000.”

Tested current light strips again but much more comprehensive and then my new lights. I measure it by tip of finger and stack one or two more fingers which are like just under half inch each. Because buds are about 1-3 finger tips away stacked. Index finger, middle and ring finger stacked on one another.

Then measured 3” and 8” away as those were furthest away from light source. This light runs hot so I believe it is brighter. It runs shadey, needs a moment to warm up to be twice as bright as starting brightness.

No dimmer. The power supply I got with it is huge and doesnt connect well. Lights in connecting area stay lit for a few mins after unplugging (anyone know why? is it safe?) Overall kind of a elevated fire risk. But here were the readings from old light vs new.

Old light:
1 finger tip away - 13k lux or 250ppfd
2 finger tips away - 7500 lux or 140ppfd
3 finger tips away - 4k lux or 75ppfd
3” away - 3200 lux or 60ppfd
8” away - 2100 lux or 40ppfd

New light:
1 finger tip away - 85k lux or 1600ppfd
2 finger tips away - 40k lux or 760ppfd
3 finger tips away - 22k lux or 415ppfd
3” away - 5k lux or 95ppfd
8” away - 2k lux or 35ppfd

Let me know if any of this sounds wrong but it was the most comprehensive measure made with these strip lights considering buds will be within those ranges distance apart.

So far they visually and mathmatically appear to be brighter but hit the same at 3” to 8” away but old strip lights were measured during use so some ambient light from same strip light was possibly interfering with reading.
