SIP thread -- (Sub-Irrigated Planter)

Looks good over there, I've only seen a couple of males in my time, are you going to keep the male ? Sounds like you want more seeds? Seeds are getting pricey as well , have you ever forced pollen a female with some colloidal silver? I purchased the stuff to make it, but never followed through
If there's a male, I'll let it fly. I dont want to disturb or stress the other by culling the male. You're correct. Seeds are getting a lil pricey, so if i end up with some seeds, so be it.
No I've not tried selfing, a female. I thought I've heard it makes the genetics unstable. I'm not 100 on that, but it's been enough to keep me from trying.

Twenty20 spice girls chugging along. Still no dead leafs! I can smell these two small plants bf I even go in my house :weed:

Only have top dressed EWC, Bag soil, and 4-4-4 Dr earth. Just started roots organic bloom booster dry .05-6-18 tea but I’m just sprinkling a small bit on top instead of making a tea. Well water in the res. Shit is soo easy and basically as maintenance free as it gets without automation.

I am reposting this bc I accidentally posted this in hook daddy’s sip journal by mistake! This 70hr work week is catching up

Looks good man!

The risk with selfing is the seeds have a greater chance to express recessive genes. If the plant being selfed (making S1 seeds) is more stable with dominant genes, it's less of a risk of recessive expression.

If you want to express recessives, it's a good tool. Just depends on what you're trying to do.

edit: If you just want some feminized seeds, go nuts. You might get some weird phenos showing up, but it's not inherently a bad thing.

Ok i get it. I'm not real fluent with the technicals of genetics. Like what makes genes recessive, and what not. I just remember someone saying selfed females are more prone to herms, than not, though I've bought female seeds, and never had a problem.

Thanks dooood :D
I'm using only bagged soil and flower girl. I'll be top watering 750ml of recharge once a week. I was gonna run it in the res, but i read somewhere that too much may not be good, and im not willing to test it with, new to me, genetics.

Most of the seeds I've popped in the last year or so have been disappointing. I'm hoping this one is "THE ONE". Lol

Topped again last night. Defoliated the center, to bring more light to middle nodes. They're really starting to pick up speed now. I'm a lil worried that the bigger one might be a male. Hell both of them could be, i won't know until maturity, but if only one of them is a male, looks like I'll have more seeds. Lol

Wow that's a lot of growth in 8 days!

I personally would not sweat culling a male, unless you actually want seeds. In organic soil the dead roots are just more food for the soil food web. I'd even chop up the dead plant and bury it next time you top-dress...

I don't necessarily want seeds, but if the strain is good, it might be worth having some seeds for backup.

I'm trying to keep my grow small and simple. I had 3 tents going before. 1 for veg, mom's clones, and 2 for flower. No more. It's too much work. I prefer 1 tent with seeds now.

Ive never seen ones this color. The whole top of the soil is light yellow. Ive not seen that before either. In a past grow, I had the whole top of the soil in about an inch thick of mycelium. You couldn't see the soil whatsoever. This is new to me. I'm guessing beneficial?

Growbox grow still going. Erdpurts have been harvested, Panama is at about 9 weeks since flip:

Got a couple peppers going, too - a shishito that I planted in place of the Erdpurts, and a random mystery one that popped up in the corner next to the Panama. I grew some pepper plants in this soil I think in 2021, I guess this seed finally saw its chance and went for it:

It's been over a year since I last dumped out these Growboxes. I wouldn't call it no-till because I have been digging up the top 2-3 inches to amend the soil between rounds, but other than that there has been no top-dressing or adding anything but water. Easy peasy. Happy SIPing y'all!
