get a 42w bulb, your plants will love you.

My set up had only 2 26w CFL's and as soon as i added a 42w CFL, my plant grew by the hour at first! holy impressive!

Just a little advice for the CFL grower,

if u wanna check out a pure CFL grow come check out mine in my sig. featuring a 250watt CFL bulb, and 4 42watt equiv's

power to the CFL growers!

we almost have the same set up just i had 3 26w then addes a 42w and did see more growth. i wish i had just 4 42watters

The 4 foot florescent shop lights actually out grow all cfl lights except the big 18 inch 250 watt (actual watt not those spiral crap bulbs).Cfls cost more in the long run as you need so many.They heat up faster then 400 watt hps and are bigger fire hazard and give crappy results unless you use a million of them for 1 plant. They are good for something though. I bought 25 box on ebay of the 23 watt ones and switched all my house bulbs to these to save power for my 600 watt digital hps lights

What is wrong with 8 cfl 23 watters, 1600 lumens each? My shit seems to do fine. 1st grow, but my 2 plants seem to enjoy that. I just gotta watch it and not let the lights burn them, cause they will.

the cfls will veg ok but when its time to flower thats not really enough and you have to change spectrums so you have to buy the the other type of cfl at that point.Think they come in 2700k spectrum and 6700k spectrum for cfls.Like lets look at my flowering lights.I use 2 600 watt digital ballasts with 2 600 watt enhanced spectrum bulbs.The bulbs give off 98000 lumnes each in a standard ballast.The digital ballast are overdrived giving 30% more lumnes so thats 130666 lumnes per bulb or 261332 lumnes per grow of enhanced spectrum light which uses the red hps with the enriched blue light to help keep sites compact and tight.Your using 12800 lumnes total so a fraction of what is needed and its the wrong color spectrum for flower so you have to replace the veg cfls with flower spectrum cfls which give even less lumnes.So point is its a waste.A 600 watt digital switcahble ballast cost $119 new and $29.99 for a reflecter and the bulb $25 new on ebay so for 175 you can have a 600 watt digiatl mh/hps setup that uses less power then the cfls and is cool running and not a fire hazard.MAke sense now?

jesus christ Fletch. you've got a sick grow room huh? i grew with CFL bulbs and got pretty buds. i think i got out for under $50. With that $125 to spare i think i bought a bag of headies and a 12 pack.

I have switched to home built aeroponics setup.I did my last grow as a journel.I grow 28 plants in the system room is 8 ft by 8 ft by 8 feet tall.I was using 3 400 watt hps lights but went with 2 600 watt digitals on a light mover with a homemade cross bar to move both lights with 1 mover.I use co2 tank injection.Pulled little over 98 oz wet from last grow at 5 week flower 10 days veg

those are just different colors of light (6700 or 2700) being on the greener/bluer side to the more red side of the spectrum, respectively.

lumen output is like the amount of photons the lightbulb emits, aka actually how much measureable "light" a fixture puts out. for my 1 plant right now i'm flowering with around 20000lumens of 2700k CFL bulbs.

metal halide bulbs are good for vegging b/c they are blue and high in lumen output. hps bulbs are good for flower b/c they are red and high as hell in lumen output. these lights are High Intensity Discharge bulbs. they are great for creating massive Luminosity. they can be pricey.

Thats all good and all and I totally understand it all. But here I am in a plastic grow box with heat being a major issue as it is with cfls. Now are you saying get rid of the cfl's and put a mh or s system in a box that I am already nervous about? I am sorry, but I think I am pushing my limits with what I have to work with. Adding a MH or a S light, I am afraid I would come home one day with investigators at my house trying to figure out why it caught fire. The cfls are hot, but not as hot as MH, I have MH on my fish tank, so I know how they operate. I would not even consider putting my fishtank MH bulb anywhere close to my stealth grow box, it would be melted in 20 minutes. Otherwise, I am going to stick with my 8 23watt cfl's until I can get a better setup.

When he is talking 2,700, and 6,700, he talking about the light spectrum.. i.e. the type of light wave. the other is Lumens,, which is how bright it is.

On the subject of how well cfls work. The one guy that has Snoop Dog fopr his Avatar did an intire grow with nothing but cfls, and he got huge sweet buds.

hopefully thats me, cuz that is all that i am using and the undecided sexes is growing like a weed until i know what they are.
