Well I got up today at 6 am. Why you ask?? Well I wanted to ask my President a question. As did numerous other people. My question was... Why can't we legalize marijuana? And put some what of a end to the problems on the US/Mexico border. And give the economy a boost along with numerous jobs, and help in the area of medicinal concerns. Now Obama spent anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes on all previous questions concerning education, health care, etc. Now he stopped and said and I quote. " We need to address a question that has been asked numerous times. Are we going to legalize marijuana? And do you think it will help the economy?" Now at this point people that were at the town hall meeting were laughing as he was talking about this. His reply was very short. He said. " No I am not going to legalize marijuana and I think it will do no good for the economy !" And that was that! He didn't go on and on like he did with all the other subjects. He didn't explain why it wouldn't help the economy. It was just "NO!" and he moved on. Why the hell did he even answer if that's the response we were gonna get. He was all for the legalization of marijuana when he was a U.S. Senator for Illinois, and I believe he was the one who got the ball rolling for the medicinal legalization in Illinois that is about to pass the house. Now why as the President of the United States is he so against it. I ask you Mr. President can you not put YOUR VIEWS aside and listen to us the American people. :wall:

Let me know what you think!! All responses will be met with + REP. :bigjoint:

i never think we will see complete legalization, but my home state of minnesota has decriminalized it pretty much, petty misdemeanor for 1.5 ounces, in my opinion thats is a happy medium for most people and something like that should be implemented throughout the us

Yea, I was talking to my friend about this, the way he responded pissed me off..

He made it sound like legalizing marijuana was the entire plan to stabilize the economy, which is NOT what people were saying.

Being able to tax MJ would be free money for the government that they would not have previously gotten, along with new jobs.

It ticked me off that he gave no REASONING as to why not.

He didn't answer it because he is already in a ton of hot water. He's not going to ladle more onto himself, his own party is already pissin all over him.
Besides that, his first two months has everyone thinking he's smoking mass quantities. That would just confirm it.

out. :blsmoke:

Well, I say good. So many people out there growing and selling MJ. If you legalize it then the every day guy will lose a ton of money and the only people who will profit from it will be big corporations. Do we really need more of that?

Honestly I think we will see the progression towards legalization, starting with decriminalization, and moving on. I think we will see a trend to criminalize Cigarettes too.
Rome's empire wasn't built overnight, and these issues just take time. We all know that most of our elected officials are idiots, they're idiots because their interests lay in power and money and not what the constituents want. It is damn shame we're in the mess we're in, YOU CAN BLAME YOUR INCUMBENTS! I know I am not the reason this happened, are you?

they won't criminalize cigarettes because states get a lot of tax revenue from it.

There's no frickin' way he can stick his neck out for that right now. The Republicans would absolutely hang him with it, and what traction he has on everything else would go right down the tubes. Don't know the age of the original poster here, but Pres. Clinton put his neck out on gays in the military and it completely derailed his administration for two years. It's politics... yes, it's bullshit, but that's where it is..

I agree legalization would be very healthy for our economy, but it would be a small boost relative to the huge problems we have right now. And as another poster rightly pointed out, corporatized MJ is not necessarily what we want. And, there's still enough corporatism alive and well that I am sure that's what we'd up with (so, we'd all still be "black market" yet again, and in violation of some stupid seed patent or whatever and still subject to recrimination).

Let's get back to work, and just grow them all into submission...

I think the only way they would legalize it is if they taxed it, which they would obviously. But then the cops would have far less people to "pick on", lol.

Obama said hes not going to legalize marijuana. He never said he wasnt going to decriminalize it. There are videos on youtube of Obama publicly saying (as a senator) that he was not for the legalization, but that we need to re-think our marijuana laws.

I don't know man... I have a lot of reservations on any politician but I had my hopes a little too high that he would follow through with the Change.org Ideas poll that was taken a few months ago. The number one idea voted for by the people was for the legalization/decriminalization of MJ. So if he's turning his back on those issues, in so many words, then I'll probably really have to make different choice come 2012

Im pretty sure there is a section on the forum to discuss this and I hate to post in the wrong section but I gotta say this cuz it looks like u all couldnt figure it out.. lets put it in perspective, its his first term and we know damn well he wants to get in for a second term so why do you think he would do something controversial in his first term? It would only make sense to me to wait until you get back in the second time before you address those kind of laws. By him legalizing in term one could highly decrease his chances of getting in for a second term. plus in the grand scheme of it all legalization of marijuana is at the bottom of the list... plus I think everyone forgets he is just one man the president cant do everything even tho they may promise to aside the fact he has only been in office 60 days guys, this is some wot of a democracy and we have the the house and senate who have to approve as well. WE ALL know once the goverment finds a semi intelligent way to tax our asses on it they will legalize it, they just want their share duh. (remember its only a boost to the economy if they get theirs)

It's rediculous to even support legalization for recreational use. As for medical use, I support it.

The thing is... I don't want to pay for a pack of "Marlboro Danks" filled with god knows what kind of chemicals added in or pay taxes on my smoke. I also don't want to shut down any growers I know. They support themselves on it and as soon as it was legalized some corporation will capatalize on the new law and mass produce weed, thus killing the underground market for it and a lot of peoples wallets. Great way to fuck up a lot of peoples lives just so you can have the convieneince of going to your neighborhood store and scoring some pot.
