Metal halide replacement bulb.

ive been searching all over the web for a replacement bulb for my 175 watt metal halide, type m57, which i bought at HTG. anyone know a link or a good way to check to see if i have the right bulb?

Its either a mogul or medium base. It either fits in the socket or it doesn't. It either says 175 watt MH or it doesn't. If you have a light in mind that you want to buy, then just post a link to it. Otherwise, the ambiguity in this thread will get you nowhere.

175 watt bulbs come in either medium or mogul base... If you buy the wrong base type then it will not fit your fixture. Can u supply a link the light you bought from HTG at least?

ok what about the light that was linked to me by Faux, since HTG's website is down i cant look at the bulb info of my last one to see the specifics. I do know its 175w, and its metal halide, type m57, i just want to make sure that the bulb i get will fit into the socket, the 175watt part is easy to find, but none of these bulbs look like the one htg origionally gave me... so do i figure the base type, use 175w, and pick out a bulb?

let me check real quick to see if its mogul or medium idk how to figure it out by looking at the ballast. is there a way i can look at the socket and figure it out? thankls guys ill give u rep once i figure this out

exactly, you need to know the base type. I can find at least 10 different 175 watt bulbs in 5 seconds, that have either medium or mogul bases. Mogul is the largest base, and medium is slightly smaller than mogul.

look on the lamp or ballast for a sticker of some type that denotes which bulb to use.

the model type on the side of the ballast only says its a
M57 relamp MH lamp
model MH-72SA-175A

im going to see what i get if i search this a little

the beggining info on what type of ballast it all is all i have. i could try looking at the bulb screw to figure it out? once i get the base type and wattage picked am i all set?

Just fuckin compare it to an ordinary incandescent or cfl.

If so, then I bet its a mogul base. I dunno why, but I just get the feeling it is. they also sell a 175 watt ballast kit which includes a mogul base. This is why I say its prolly a mogul base. All they do is attach a reflector to a socket and call it a grow light.

M57 is the ballast and has nothing to do with lamp shape.

yes thats my light, and if its mogul base, ill look a little more before ordering, but now its a matter of finding a decent bulb for a fair price

Just go to the hardware store and buy a mogul base 175 watt MH. I'll be damned if they don't have one. I see them in home despot all the time.
