Really lookin' forward to your progress Fujin...

I haven't see but one complete Grow Journal using LED lighting.

:bigjoint:
Thanks everyone for posting. welcome.
Unfortunately I missed taking pictures last night but I have decided on a new method that might be a bit more exciting; I'm going to post every five day to a week, the photos of that week and each plant's progress in individual posts (if that makes sense).

So here is SLH 1 since the 29th. remember I clipped some runaway roots on this one and you can see the stressed growth when you compare it to its neighbor, SLH 2. also this one is running a little damp, the leaves are droopy, but we'll see how it does as some more water leaves the soil.

room temp: 75F

...and here is SLH2. something is going right here and this little lady is loving life right now, maybe in a week or so I will transfer her out of the cup and into a larger container (slh 1 might get that treatment a little sooner).

thats all for now, be back soon... :joint:

lol
I should let you know that you have to poke holes in the bottom of them and lots of times they crumple and crack because of that, rendering them useless.
anyway, transferred both slh to 1 gal pots today. they both had significant root structure and neither were getting the drainage they needed (another mark against the red cups!). I think it is the kind of plastic (it just doesn't breathe) as this happens often and easily with these cups;
leading me to wonder today if they make those breathable black grow bags in sizes small enough for seed starting ...

these 1gal pots are great. just want to give a shout out to fiskars and their terra pots, the design is great and so is the drainage.
gave my ladies an extra day to dry out and then hit them with some Rhizo Fuel (check out mycorrhizae and their symbiotic relationship with plant roots, if you haven't already) when I watered yesterday.

Here is SLH1 over the past week...

unrelated to this grow, but harvest season is wrapping up out here and this year I got to try some great strains: Bubba and Master Kush, Grapefruit Diesel, Green Crack, Blue Heaven, Northern Lights x Sour Diesel, even Goddess. have to say that the blue heaven and the goddess were easily the best for getting high, while the green crack and bubba kush worked well for getting stoned.

its great here out west... :joint:
and now back to out regularly scheduled program

Dude did u say you cliped the roots ?? What planet are u from. Here on earth that will stunt the growth PERMANETELY unless you poot some cloning gel or powder on it its friggin doomed. As for leds , ive never seen an led out perform a fluorescent/hid combo and you never will but I will follow this to its , I believe, sad conclusion, Plus rep for the experiment I truly hope it turns out better than these other led test.

your shit's growing slow either because you A: have poor soil conditions, B: LED light sucks, im doing a grow with LED and mine works I didn't check your original light I just scrolled fast. Or C: You're overwatering

PS: I got 5 slh's 120w led 6500k shop light, 42w 2700k cfl, and zoo mega-ray UVB light which i highly recommend you do some research on, it increases trich production and potency. It's frosted mine in week 2 out nicely, and only in one week just wear sunscreen and protective gear if ur safe (im dumb and dont). Here's a link to my journal ill update soon the pics. They're growing like mad.

Also get some quality soil
Fox farm ocean forest is 20 dollars a bag and it's great stuff. Start the seedlings in perlite and Fox farm light warrior, then half and half for the gallon or 3 gallon bucket you'll be transplanting into.

I made all these mistakes and I had to find the solution or answers like everyone else. I wish I had someone to post this information when I started up haha

I'm going to go with option C: overwatering!.
one of those simple things, but I just didn't think about the rate of evaporation being different without the heat from HID lights and was still on the same watering schedule. didn't figure that out until transplanting to 1gal earlier this week...

my soil is pretty decent, you may have missed it previously but I know the soil I used was either Ocean Forest or Filthy Rich. of course, some LED lights DO suck bad, and while I don't think it is the case with this one, it is definitely a possibility...

yours are also from seed yes? these ladies are now three weeks from seed sprouting, I'm willing to attribute any lack of growth to my previously mentioned mistakeries than to the LED light. I honestly think they love this light; it even helped bring back my last MA seedling from the brink of death. time will tell, and that is my purpose with this...

anyway, I really appreciate all the info you posted here (I will def check out that UVB light!), thank you. subscribing to your journal and looking forward to how both our grows turn out... :joint:

My plants from seed are doing pretty darn good for only 5 days since they were put in toilet paper... I suspect they'll catch up with the progress of this grow within another 3-4 days. Other growers (Irish) are having excellent results using our 126W LED's for veg. The problem isn't the light, I guarantee it.

dont worry LEDGirl, im not here to disparage your light. quite the opposite... it would be a lot more helpful to me if you made suggestions (being the experienced user with these lights) rather than telling me how ahead your grow is... props to Irish, I've been watching that.

anyway all, I've made some environmental changes in my room; I don't believe there was enough air circulation so I put up a fan I had previously taken down. the soil could have used some more perlite mixed in, water is not leaving the soil as fast as I would like. hopefully better circulation will bring things back around. slh2 is responding well, and I will give slh1 some time to catch up...

Fujin,

I would have more input if I could see more. Right now I can't see where the light is at in your pictures, and your plants seem to be really dim if it's at 8". Also, I am very unfamiliar with dirt growing personally, so I'm not much help in that department. My current grow is also the first I've done from seed in about 3 years, so I'm not expert on seed growing (always do clones). Anyhow, I didn't mean to come off in a negative way, quite the opposite. Just re-assuring that the light does great for veg, so once your others issues get situated, they should start taking off. Sorry that I may have come off differently.

Hope things get better soon ;) and that someone might be able to assist you better with your soil situation than I can.

Hey man, how are they growing now? I didn't think about it, but early in my grow when they were seedlings I mixed 50/50 and the soil was still a little hot in my opinion. When I clone I'm going to give just straight light warrior a try. I did take one clone already 4 days ago and I'm trying to root it with just honey and rockwool in a glass jar (lazy). But I do have exciting news, I'm going to get the ebb and grow system pop it up 2 600w lights, possibly invest in 2 spinner hydroponic systems and some other things so get excited. I updated my journal last night w/pics so go check it out man and let me know what you think. Click Here

hey guys just seen this and i was wondering whats ur temps like? if it cold put a heating mat under ur pots, the heat will make ur roots go crazy.
also IMOP i wouldnt use fox farm soil, i know i know every one and their babys mom uses it, but if you can check out this stuff called sunshine mix #4, get that and you will never go back to fox farm agian.

i sure u already know but mix perlite in ur soil next time if its cold? whats the ph like? the only other thing i can think of is maybe temps too cold? little too much water?

always keep a fan blowing on ur plants keeps fresh co2 moving to them and also make your stock bigger and stronger, be careful not to have the fan too much on them or youll get wind burn and strees them out.

let me know some of this info and ill see if i can help.

good luck!

funny you should mention these things, did you have some of the same problems in the beginning? I did most of the things you mentioned above (put fan back up, cut back on the water, and raised the temp) back when I put them in 1gal and they are responding great. I will throw up some more photos tonight.
thank you for that tip about the heat mat, I was wondering how to counter the temp at night (dropped to about 67F last night), but the day temp stays in the high 70s, humidity low 30s to low 40s.

I'm actually not using FF soil, it was some stuff I picked up called Filthy Rich; not sure how I feel about it so I think I will check out that Sunshine mix. thanks.
now off to check out your progress...
