I think my tap water sucks

You said you had the same problem last grow, did you figure out what the issue was?
Why are you ignoring the obvious, yes promix has lime but herb eats a lot of calcium and magnesium, you said you had spots, do they look like rust spots? If so than you are dealing with a calcium or/and a magnesium deficiency...

You can ignore the obvious or realize that there isn't enough lime in promix to carry the plant all the way thru flowering. Trust me on this I've been growing for two years now and have dealt with my fair share of problems.

I use soil that has dolomite lime in it as well and I had a major magnesium deficiency also. It's one of the most common problems people run into. Best of luck my friend. :joint::peace:

Calcium is in my soil already like i previously stated. So I dont think i need cal mag.

And my water contains chloramine. Weather that is my issue right now or not is debatable, but either way, that shit is not good for plants. Your turn, go.
Eventually your plants are going to deplete the calcium in your soil. When you flower, they'll be in the pots for 2 months or longer. Promix may not have enough calcium or magnesium in it to last, so it'd be much safer to have some cal/mag on hand.

Did you ever find any pics that look similar to your present problem?

Thank you.

What did you do to fix the mag deficiency?

Can someone get away with adding epsom salt in place of the expensive cal/mag supplements?

pony up a whopping 17 and you'll have some cal/mag. Epsom salt is only for magnesium not calcium

You can use Epsom salt to fix mag problems, but it has no calcium in it, so you may as well get Cal/Mag if you're going with R/O or distilled water.

I just assumed my issues from last grow were attributed to my ph being off because i didnt have a meter. I never really resolved the issue. The whole grow was a mess.

I have always used tap and according to the water quality report from my area our shit is very hard. Up to 400 ppm. So now im confused. How can i have a mag/cal issue if my water is hard? Or is there too much mag cal?

Either way, im switching to distilled. Here is a pic of what im dealing with. I appreciate every one's help.

I watered with epsom salts and then started using cal-mag with every watering at 2 tsp a gallon until it cleared then I backed down to 1 tsp a gallon. Cal-mag isn't too bad pricewise. A quart of it costs me $18 and it will last me for 2-3 grows.

Isnt that what hard water is- too much mag and cal? So im told that my tap that ive been using is hard. Could that be why the spots are forming? Because along with the lime already in the soil, the mag in the nutes and the high ppm im my tap my girls are exposed to too much mag and cal? Im just thinking out loud.

I concede that if i switch to distilled that adding a supplement is wise, but how to i deal with my current issue? It is no doubt getting worst.

Flush?

Hard water will definitely cause problems. You could flush with pH'd r/o or distilled water. I use the r/o water that they sell in the machines at the grocery store. It's way cheap. The calcium and magnesium in cal-mag or even epsom salts are in a form more readily available to the plant. Hard water has so much stuff in it that it usually just locks up most of the nutrients the plant needs.

The freaking unsulphured molasses i use has cal and mag in it as well. I got this off wiki. Theyre talking about human consumption but none the less.

"However, unlike refined sugars, it contains significant amounts of vitamins and minerals. Blackstrap molasses is a source of calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron; one tablespoon provides up to 20% of the daily value of each of those nutrients.[3][4]cattle feed and for other industrial uses."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molasses

I also found this. http://www.marijuana-seeds.net/Thanks-ThankYou.htm ...

If the starting water is above 200 ppm, that is pretty hard water, that will lock out mg with all of the calcium in the water. Either add a 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of epsom salts or lime (both will effectively reduce the lockout or invest into a reverse osmosis water filter.
Mg can get locked-up by too much Ca, Cl or ammonium nitrogen. Don't overdo Mg or you'll lock up other nutrients."

I think my plan is to wait a few days to see if it gets worse and if it does, water with distilled and 1 tbl of epsom getting quite a bit of runoff. Sound good?

I would prefer to act now instead of waiting. Things can only get worse the longer you wait. And we've already told you epsom salt isn't going to fix your problem. Its not a magnesium deficiency.

That is a very prudent strategy. It's always best to not do too much too quickly. If you are giving molasses and still having problems it's likely you are locking things out with the water you are using. See if you can get water from the machine at your local grocery store. It's cheaper than distilled and almost as pure. Best of luck. :joint::peace:

If you were me what would you do? Exactly.

Go buy some R/O water or distilled water and flush the soil. Hard water can cause mineral and salt buildups preventing nutrient uptake. After flushing, it also wouldn't hurt to transplant into a bigger pot with some fresh soil, so the plant has a new supply of calcium/magnesium, but you'll still want to continue using cal/mag. Just make sure to let the pot dry out some before transplanting :)

What now? Spots are starting to creep up on my leaves again, but im using good soil (promix bx), only giving 1/4 strength feedings and ph'n everything so i dont think its my fault.

I dont have too many plants so buying water isnt a big deal. Not sure if i should go with distilled or spring. Or maybe i could start boiling everything? But dont they do that at the water plant?

What would you do if you found out your tap water wasnt good?

distilled water... neutral pH... works like a charm... 78 cents for a gallon at wal-mart... easy answer... rep please... lol

Just because the water is hard doesn't mean there is adequate calcium to sustain your plants
