Is 185 CFM enough to vent/cool my 96cubic ft room?

My room is 4x3x8 which is 96 cubic ft. so it would recycle itself nearly twice in aminute. But i dont know how to take account for the light. I Have a 400 HPS right now and teps can get in the mid 90s with tthe door closed. Just wondaring if this will do the trick. Im considering a 460 cfm fan but this one is much cheaper and if i dont need that much i would rather save the money. + rep for help

that sounds more like a closet than a room. what i'd do is vent the hood/heat out of your "room" rather than venting the room alone. what i do is put the fan on one side of the hood (air-cooled) and use it to pull the air out of the hood/room. i usually go up through the ceiling by cutting a 6" hole. then, shove a length of 6" sheet metal ducting through that. connect some flexible aluminum type (dryer vent) ducting to that with a clamp. this will pull both the air out of the room, and the hood at the same time.

okay so it is a closet .. i have the ductin all worked out and all that i just want to know how much cfm my fan should be to efficiently cool my closet down. I have the whole thing set up just need to know how powerful of a fan i need thanks.

thats my answer there... thanks sixstring.. i dont want to buy one and not like it .. but i didnt want to over do it by so much. plus the 400+ is at a kick ass price.. like 115 so i think im going with the hight power...

So should i get the 185 0r 460 with a speed controller? and if so which controller is reliable and dont fuck up my expensive ass fan???

Evolalex my man whats up starting a new journal or just asking a question?if you got something else going on dont forget to let me know since im taking the bulk of the summer off ill have plenty time to check you out...As for the fan question to be totally honest everyone loves to tell you to go out and get one of these high priced over achieving fans that are'nt cheap by the way..but heres what i say what is just as important as the fan you have to exaust and cool your tent,you need to consider that its just as important to spend as much attention to detail on your intake as well wether passive or active!i cool my 250 with a very basic set now and did'nt have to go get no 400 cfm fan to do so,i have 2 home depot 80 cfm fans and one 160 cfm axial ecoplus square box fan i use the 2 hd fans as active intakes with ecoplus axial as my exaust through my cool tube for now once i go back to my 400 ill simply replace the exaust axial fan with a 6"ecoplus 285 cfm for the cool tube exaust and move the 4"axial fan into the intake roll for the extra intake...but we forget a lot of times about how inportant the right exaust is in cooling your grow room and the actual roon temp that your box is in so if your room temp where the box is runs at about 75 degree's you can expect the box to run at 5 to 7 degree's hotter then that...Peace

fan speed controls are available at ANY electrical supply house for 20 bucks or less. be ready to choose between 3 amp and 6 amp. and 400 cfm is WAY more than plenty for that small of a space.

a good way to figure fan requirements:
take your room's cubic feet and divide by 3. this will give you your base minimum cfm requirement. Add 5% for every air-cooled light, 15% for every non-air-cooled light. add 5% if you use co2. add 20% for each carbon filter.

try to duct your intake air from a cool place, like under the house, or from the basement. size your intake piping 2" larger than your exhaust and route it to around12" from the floor in the corner opposite your exhaust. pull exhaust air from high across the room from your intake, or through your light.

whats a good may to figure a atio of exhaust to intake? like how many cfms should my intake be if my exhaust is 185? I think im gonna get the 185.. hope its enough.
if i did the math correct i will need at least 43.2 cfms with only one carbon filter. That seem like its really small amount. I can get a 85 cfm cpu fan from radioshack for 20 bux. Will that really be effecient enough? and if not can i like hook ttwo up together and make it more powerful or will it just cancel each other out?

yeah...you're going to need a 400cfm + fan...my closet is 4x4x8...and i just got my 6" 400cfm....keeps my temps around 80.
