If you don't have a choice then more dark during flowering is better. If it gets more than 12 hrs of light it could go back to the veg state and fuck up your grow for a couple more weeks. Light destroys the chemicals produced inside the plant that triggers it to flower.

I would leave the leaves on. The plant pulls energy from the fan leaves when needed in other places, you'll see this alot when bud growth starts. They may look ugly but that's part of it's life cycle.

Your at the exact stage of flowering I'm at and my plants are doing the exact same thing. The lower fan leaves are turning brown and yellow and the tips of the good growth are crisping the tips of the leaves. That's all normal.

I usually give them enough to wet the soil every morning. The pots are kind of small so they drink alot since it's been hot out. Otherwise every other day.

Can't judge on time. You have to look at the trichomes and see when the plant is ripe. I would go into the harvesting threads and do some research. If you don't cut the plant at the right time it could really screw up the potency. You want to wait till 2/3 to 3/4 of the hairs turn amber, that's when it's ready, not by a day you pick on the calender.

Trichomes are often called crystals because they start clear and reflect light. As they age, the resin in the trichome head becomes cloudy. When most of the trichomes are cloudy, you can start sampling every few days. Most growers harvest when 10% to 50% of trichomes have turned amber.(This often depends on the grower's experience with the strains involved. Some are better at a particular stage.)

Get a magnifier( jeweler's loupe or microscope) with a 30x or stronger magnification to see the trichomes, clearly. Trichomes are NOT "hairs". Most people refer to the pistils as hairs. Especially once they are dry.

Exactly what veggiegardener said. I find if you use the lighted 30-100x magnifier you can very easily see the individual trichomes.

The plant won't be more potent so mush as it will have different levels of CBD and THC. The combination of many things is what give you a high. You can "adjust" what kind of high you want by knowing when to harvest. Lighter crystals with less amber will give you more of an energetic head high. When more of them change darker then there are more CBD's present and this gives you the sleepy "couch lock" feeling. You can sample when you first start to see about 10-20% of the trichomes turning amber. The only thing you will affect by sampling is your overall yield in the end.

Believe it or not, some professional growers will even harvest individual buds as they ripen. Don't get to eager, patience make perfect.
