I am thinking of experimenting with my AutoFlowers..
Since the life span on them are so short would it be possible for me to put two plants in same 5 gallon bucket.

Thanks Lowrider. I ordered my seeds from Attitude, which I've never heard anything but very positive reviews about, so I think I'm fine there as long as they clear customs. I ordered all the added stealth options that were available, so it wasn't cheap but I can't imagine them not arriving (I'm in the states). I should've mentioned I ordered Fems, and with the quality of Attitude's seeds (based on reviews) I think it's likely they'll autoflower.

I wasn't planning on using CO2, I really didn't think that was typical for first time budget grows like this with only a couple small plants :?:.

And yeah, I was only going to start with 2 plants (inside), and 1 plant outside for a comparison, just for that reason. I only bought 5 fem Easy Ryder seeds, so I'll have 2 spares if I completely blow it with these first ones, although I don't think I'm gonna kill them at least. They came with some good free seeds too that I can play with later.

+REP!

I'm getting ready to do a first grow indoors with a couple Easy Ryders and I have a some questions for anybody kind enough to offer their wisdom and experience, particularly with AFs grown in soil. I have no experience growing anything at all, so everything is new to me. I'll preface this by saying that I've spent several days reading everything I could find on the subject, especially from the forums on this site, so I've already done quite a bit of homework but I still have plenty to learn and lots of questions.

For light I've settled on using CFLs due to size, space, heat, and cost considerations, and I've already purchased the equipment so it's completely settled. I also already happened to have some of the CFL bulbs I'll need (a few 23W(100) 2700Ks putting out 1600 Lumens, and a bunch of 13W(60) putting out 900 Lumens that I may or may not use. Still need to get one or two 42W(150) 6500Ks putting out around 2600 Lumens but HD didn't have any in stock.

For a medium I've settled on using Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil. Did a lot of reading and it was one of the most highly recommended (along with Black Gold and a couple others), and most people said you really didn't need any nutes at all with it, and didn't need to mix it with anything else. With AFs pretty much everyone said not to use Nutes in the first few weeks anyways, if you use any at all.

These are my questions, in no particular order:

  • Although people said straight up Ocean Forest would work great without mixing it with anything, I constantly see people talking about using Perlite, and I've seen a lot of people say you should always use Perlite with any "soil" medium. Should I use it, and if so, how? Do I just mix it thoroughly into the FFOF soil? If so, how much Perlite should I mix with say 1 gallon of FFOF?
  • Do I need to do anything to prep the soil such as flushing it etc., and if I do, how long do I need to let it dry out (if at all) before I plant the germinated seeds? Is there anything else I need to do with the soil before planting?
  • How far below the surface of the soil should I plant the germinated seed?
  • Bearing in mind these are Easy Ryders, using FFOF soil, does anybody that's familiar with this combination recommend using nutes, and if so which ones, how much, and at what point in the process? Everything I saw said not before 3 weeks if at all.
  • Regarding the lighting, it seems everybody always says to use 6500K for Veg and 2700K for flowering, but since there's no real Veg with AFs, what color temps are recommended? I've seen at least a few people use a combination of 23W 2700K CFLs and 42W 6500K CFLs throughout the entire grow. Is this recommended?
  • So as not to waste electricity, when I'm just starting my two seedlings how much light do I need? I would think that a single 23W, 2700K bulb in a reflective base about 2 inches above the seedling, putting out around 1600 Lumens, would be sufficient for the first couple weeks before adding lights, but any input is welcome.
I think that's it for now, I'm sure I'll have more questions down the road. Can't wait for my seeds to (hopefully) arrive soon and get started. Ordered fems so I shouldn't have to deal with any sex issues.

TIA, and +REP to anybody that can help!
First of all, welcome Enonumus. I am a first time grower as well and have started a LR2 that is now 12 days into flowering. My advice for what it is worth is that you have made the right choice with FFOF soil, that you do not need to flush it. use use pure not tap water to feed the plants with. i am sure that you will be pleased with your results under these conditions. I am a novice and do not have the knowledge to comment or make suggestions on your lighting, on that note it sounds like you have done your homework and have made an educated choice. in addition I have chosen to give my LR2 nutes and have decided to use FF big grow, FF big bloom & FF tiger bloom. that being said I am following FF soil schedule at 1/2 strength. I am using the nutes as the cost was not a factor and that is the same reason that I am growing them under a 400 watt HPS. any way please check some of my past posts as they have pics so you can get an idea of the results that you should achieve. I have also included some pics that I took earlier this evening.
best of luck to you & please follow up with some pics if you can.:hump:

you can but i would suggest two smaller pots as I have two, each in its own 5 gal bucket and they are using all of the space that that the 5 gal bucket affords them. almost like the more you give em the more they use!

well the most important thing is make sure the place you order from is reputable i got 10 lowriders only sprouted 5 and got one femail ohh and btw they did not auto flower at all there taller than my waist and that would be ok if i was a midget but im 6'2 i read every were that the max they reach if 16 inches mines are at least 30

sprout the seeds in a wet napkin its kinda diceptive itll dry out faster than you think

put then in the soil with the lil white thing pointing down (and dont pour water directly on top right after) i think thats why one of my plants has a tumor looking like knott just below the soil

as far at the lighting goes with my past grows i allways just mix it up 50/50 i have a 43 watt 6500K and 2700K and the rest are 2 26 watt 6500K and 2700K

the only thing is if you can double your lumen output for flowering is ideal i usually just wait for those males to pop up and its more light for my ladys

and they love co2 i got two 2 liters and i think they work pritty well

and i would suggest starting off with just two plants cus you will fuc** shit up your first grow to say the least im on my third and im still fu**ing shit up

plus youll find out if they will really auto flower
Hey, if you don't mind me asking where did u get your seeds that didn'd autoflower from, also were they feminized or regular? I ordered 10 regular LR2 seeds from Maerijuana seeds.nl & sure enough 6 weeks + old and it ain't autoflowered yet.(it's on a 12/12 regiment as u read this) that being said I did get 5 feminized from the same shop and the one I started 6 weeks ago is 12 days into flowering & i am real happy with that one.
just trying to gather as much info as I can. Thanks in advance for any info that you are willing to share!

Thanks for the feedback AF, +REP. I'm definitely going to be a pic whore during my first grow and I'll start a journal. I plan to get a water PH kit before I start (tried to find one today but the local Hydro shop only had a tester, not the whole kit to change the PH), but I have a Brita filter and I'm wondering what people think about using the water from that for my grow? It's essentially purified water, so I would think it would be ideal and certainly better than tap water which sucks where I live, and it's VERY hard water.

You need a product with calcium and magnesium such as Magical or Calmag. It will not reverse the damage but it will prevent further damage. I read somewhere to mix crushed eggshells during planting to reduce this but I just add Magical every watering.

If your looking into autoflowers and decided its what you want to try out. Heres a few tips to getting "true" autos:

Always buy in breeder packs! (#1 rule). I know its nice to buy single seeds and whatnot, but this severely dents your chances of getting true stock. Shit happens, things get mixxed up when dealing with hundreds of open seed packs.

Buy from a site you have inquired about with others who have bought there and got true autos!! There are alot of people working with autos now, you can easily find someone on here with a good rep to give you the info of how they got their "true" autoflowers.

Joint doctor and Low-rider are a great place to start with autoflowers. They are excellent breeders.

I hope these guidelines help you guys when getting into autos. Keep on growin!

Man that sucks. Really glad I broke down and shelled out for all Fem seeds. I have some of the worst luck in the history of mankind, so I figured if I rolled the dice and bought regular seeds, I'd probably wind up with 5 out of 5 males like you. Sorry, but at least you're getting the cloning practice like you said. Good luck with the free seeds, I'm sure at least ONE of your seeds will be a female!

Flip them to 12/12. For whatever reason they don't have the auto flower trait. Are they from Nirvana? It seems like a lot people's autos from Nirvana aren't autoflowering. I've grown autos twice and both times they showed sex between 2-3 week, going into full flower mode shortly after.

From my experience, yes! switch 12/12 now unless you have the room..

That sucks man, I thought I was unlucky with 2/5 female/male ratio... I also picked up regular auto seeds "shortrider/Nirvana" It seems like more often then not the fem seeds seem to be the true auto's but I'm sure it comes down to the seedbank your getting them from more than anything else..
