I grow shitloads of carrots every year almost for the sole purpose of seeing all the crazy mutant ones, one year I had a carrot that wrapped itself around an old cigarette butt.. nasty and weird because I don't smoke..heres a few pics of some old mutants.. wait around a while and Ill have a lot more. always wait till just after the first frost to harvest carrots, makes them sooo much sweeter. I may post some of my recipes, but only if I feel you deserve them lol.

Cool. You should try it with some "Purple Haze" carrots next year.

Carrots are supposed to be a good companion plant for Tomato's. I cant attest one way or the other, but I do have a bunch of carrots amongst my tomato's.

carrots are just about the easiest thing you can grow, almost seed and forget. seeding into rows, in a raised bed has always been my preferred method.
If you live in a warmer climate you can get away with planting right into rows in the ground.

rows and raised beds are important, they help to elongate the carrot root, and channel water to them, as well as keep them warmer. seed along the tops of rows with preferred carrot strain, an thin them out as they grow. water frequently and heavily but don't be afraid to forget about them, they're very hardy. If you live in a climate that goes below freezing in the winter, wait to harvest until the day after first frost, this makes them much sweeter somehow.
I'm pretty sure that covers it, harvested one bed today so I'll post some pics of mine, and some more freaks!

CARAMELIZED GLAZED CARROTS Cook in a small amount of water in covered pan until crisply tender, about 15 minutes, 1 pound carrots, peeled and cut into 3 inch wedges.Drain carrots well and keep hot. In a large 9 inch heavy skillet, melt over moderate heat until lightly caramelized, 1/4 cup granulated sugar.
Add and stir until blended, 2 tablespoons butter. Add hot carrots and stir over moderate heat about 5 minutes, until they are nicely glazed. Yield 6 servings.

woah, intense! (lol reminds me of those non-descript, smooth, "universal couple" statues that were so hot in the early nineties)
