cool cool thanks guys. Now when i fist start my plant i know to use certain mixtures and stuff but how do you change ferts in the middle of your plants growth without pulling it up and risking damaging the roots?
You're welcome bro, I'm more than happy to prove that drainage can greatly improve just about any soil. As for the "feeds for 3 months", disreguard that, it's pretty much meaningless. To me, all that's saying, is that it's a rich soil. It's just makes the bag look more appealing to grandma, who has that spider plant hanging in her window.lol I started giving them some Calmag Plus,(which contains a weak dose of N) about two weeks ago, and will start with the bloom fert, when I switch them to 12/12, which will be coming soon, within the next two weeks. Basically, as you get a few grows under your belt, you'll be able to look at your plants, 'read' them, then make the determination, whether they need fed, or not. If you look at the most recent pics, you'll notice that the above ground foliage, is getting pretty close to occupying the same space as the pot's volume? I've found that typically, that's when a plant will start needing fed, give or take a little. I won't be using any veg fert, being that the foliage is still nice and green. If I were to veg much longer, it'd be necessary.Thank you for this! First grow and I paid almost $40 for a bag of FFOF because there is no place to get it locally and everyone swore I would risk failure by going with MG. I'll be at Home Depot from now on picking up $10 bags of MG Potting Mix, and paying a couple bucks for some Perlite. Excellent thread

Sorry, quick question and I hope it wasn't answered, I read through alot of this thread but not all. If I run the "feeds up to 3 months" stuff, should I not use any nutes during veg and just kick in some bloom nutes for flower?
Thanks
Head down to lowes or home depot - that'll be your best bet.yeah the 1000 is gonna run your bill up quite a bit higher than that 250
anyone know where i could find a cheap fan and i mean really cheap to use as an exhaust fan gotta keep the room closed but cant let the girls suffocate

This is awesome! I will be using MG soil from now on. 75% MG Soil, 25% Perlite, 100% awesome. +Rep my man.
Yeah. I have a perpetual grow going on at the moment, so transitioning everything to MG will be a month or so project haha. Now all I need to do is find some cheaper ferts lol!
jaw,...............

Also,....1000 watts will cost exactly 4x what it'll cost to run 250 watts. It'd cost about $22 a month, to run 1000 watts,(on 12/12) in my area, at $.06 KWH. Look at your electric bill, see what they charge per KWH in your area, and adjust accordingly. That'll give you a close estimate to what it'll cost.
I think in Veg, I might use a bit of MG veg nutes also.
jaw,
At .06/KWH it sounds like you have some of the cheaper electricity that's out there. I'm stuck with a fairly rural electrical co-op for service and I'm paying .1229/KWH.
A friend recently lent me one of these P3 "Kill-A-Watt" meters to play around with.

I've been studying the various elctrical loads (in a 24 hour period) involved with my grow and it's looking like I'm using around $75/month in total electricity just for my grow. Of course if I had your .06/KWH rate I'd only be spending around $35/month.
And I'm only in 12/12 right now. Those 2 months I spend vegging on 18/6 cost me around $112/month. If I wasn't using any electricity to grow weed my electric bill would be under $20/month.

Mudslide,
If your going to try growing in the standard Miracle Grow potting mix (feeds 3/6 months) I would recomend you don't give them any additional NPK fertilizers during the first 30 days.
During the first 30 days all I suplement with is a little SupperThrive (once or twice) and a little molasses (@1 teaspoon/gallon) (once or twice). I've never used any of that CalMag jawbrodt talks about but he's got my interest in it up and I think I'll be getting some of it for use on my next grow. Up till now I've been using Epsom Salts occasioanlly to get my plants some Magnesium.
I'm going to follow this advice on my second grow and probably pick up some CalMag that Jawbrodt was talking about.
Hope yall don't mind if I tell ya a little about my grow for your advice. I don't want people thinking I'm tryin to jack a thread (seen some guys get pretty harsh on here for that) I don't have an actual grow journal up because I spent all my money on my grow and didn't have anything left to buy a camera, lol.
I started 6 Widow seedlings off under a Jumpstart T5 propagation setup. I was worried about "hot" soils for my little guys so I went to Lowes and picked up a bag of plain top soil and added some MG perlite to it. I had them in 16oz cups that were cut in half and they seemed to grow out of it in around a week. They had their roots wrapped around the sides of the 8oz little cups, so against my better judgement I think, I transplanted them into there final grow bags. 3 gallon bags with 1 part FFOF, 1 part top soil, and about 25% perlite mix. I then moved them from the little T5 (waste of money for a little 2000 lumen light I think, but I was excited and started spending money stupidly) and put them under my 400w MH. I'm on day 14 now and they just seemed to stop growing (or they are moving very slow) They are still just now producing their second set of serrated leaves (the leaves just after the first two true serrated) I'm afraid I've already screwed them up. I'm using PH adjusted water every 3-4 days (the seedlings aren't sucking up much water so the 3 gallon bags stay moist about 2-3inches under the soil according to my moisture meter) I have the light about 2 feet off the plants with a fan blowing across them (feels cool when I put my hand over them) I have them on a digital timer 18/6 but my little guys just don't seem like they are adjusting well. They look healthy though, nice and short, strong little stem in comparison to alot of lanky seedlings I see on here from folks with crappy light setups, and they are very perky and a healthy looking green, just VERY slow growth.
Am I just over analyzing the situation? I love these little guys already and I have no other seeds in case I screw up. I was planning on taking clones as I'm almost done with my separate veg room and I have a kinda crop rotation plan in mind if I can get these raised and the males culled.
I have some Jack's 20-20-20 and some Jack's Blossom Bloomer 10-30-20 but haven't begun my treatments as I wanted them to get used to the FFOF first.
You guys seem really cool and I would love some pointers. I'm hoping that I'm just being paranoid for their safety!
Thanks
