Supposedly ak-48 doubles in size if you flower when its 20". I kind of want to flower in a week, but 2 are only 6" and one 10". With my lighting setup, do you think I will still get an oz per plant?

Im glad I found this thread. Im in need of a little advice from experienced LED users. Im getting ready to upgrade my perpetual grow and add a second light to my flowering area. Im currently using a 400 watt HPS in the flowering area that I have air cooled. I dont want to add more fans (noise), ducting and electric use.

I have a budget of $300 to spend on an LED, Im upgrading my veg area too; so $300 is my ceiling. While I know that isnt gonna buy me much, its supplemental lighting for my HPS. What I could really use is your experienced advice on lighting and companies.

I have/use/flower with the HTG one and I like it very much... i got lucky and got it on sale for $190.00 shipped. I never saw the one from ebay before but it has impressive stats and a decent price. for a suppliment i think they are both a decent deal... you may want to shop around a little more though. I am in the market for another one this sping, so I've had my eyes peeled lately...

Hydroponics Hut has a Spectra control which will let you choose blue/white or all red or both & these are by far the least expensive & best produced that I have seen on the market today.Their website is a bit pricey but check out the deals on e-Bay as they are listed as private & noone can see what you bought!!!

I got the 180 watt with cree chipset ($249.00 shipped) & it has two buttons to control the colors you can just veg at 90w or use the whole 180 with IR UV & REd & blue.

I always go by wattage around a buck a watt is great a little more for quality & the best spectrum is key though!!

Must have the 660 red to flower & some IR & UV helps as well!!!!

ink the world - Check out Growl LED, I use their LED's exclusively and I say they are the best interms of manufacturing and quality. I have taken many LED panels apart and some companies use cheep material that DOES NOT last long, Growl uses only the best material and are an American company that supports their customers wonderfully. Like I have said before, they are the Mercedes Bendz of growl lights. www.ledgrowlight.com

I have a 250w "Illuminator" from growitled.com and it says in the website's contact information that is based out of the growl location. Weird. But my LED has amazing spectrums that I think makes the plant perform much better with much better results.

Seems weird, but actually the two companies have become Growl LED, both great guys and now they work together!

I'm like totally Pro LED so it brings me no joy to bring this news into the open!!

I've been doing a push for about 3 months now I started this as an LED only grow. As things evolved i felt obligated to add my old 400W HiD to the mix, in order to possibly save my crop.
For a while the HiD was relegated to one side of the plant and the LED another part. Now, the observations that i have here are of course not concrete scientific proof. But it is interesting and it's convincing enough to make me rearrange my light setup during my flowering cycle..

Here are 2 pics from the same plant. The first pic is from an OLDER bud site which was under a constant 90W LED, 5 Spectrum Tri band,

The second photo is a younger bud site than the bud site seen in the first photo.
This young bud site was very close to the 40W HiD!!

In the following 2 photos you can see that there are 2 bud site illustrated. Both on the same plant but one having been heavily exposed to primarily a LED whilst the other was exposed more-so to the HiD!

Just for a last comparison I've also noticed that things are just larger in general on the LED side. I've taken pictures of the entire canopy but it's hard to tell. But if you look hard enough you will notice that the leaves on the left and bottom left side are larger than the leaves surrounding the right side of the screen. For this pic i pulled the plant out. but normally the left and bottom left side are right under the HiD

Judging from the way the plant really thrives well under the LED. The only conclusion I could draw is that the LED provides so efficiently ass the spectrum of light necessary, that the plant can obtain what it needs with a leaf having less surface area.
Now apparently my light is giving the plant what it needs but not with enough intensity possibly? Or maybe the plant simply doesn't have to work as hard to obtain what it needs.

Without answering those questions we will be kinda at a loss to know whether we really need higher "wattage" LED"s or simply less delivery efficient LED's that will force "MASS" growth??

What I will say is that the whole 90 vs 400 watt comparison should be thrown out the window by now. That was started by LED manufacurers and it was only for Veg. Flowering just doesn't stack up like that. So that leads us to the next comparison: You are comparing 4.4x HID wattage to 1 LED watt. Does the HID side look 4.4x better? Not from what I can see, it doesn't even look 50% better to me.

From my experience you should only have a 90w UFO style to a sq. ft. at about 12-18" tall plants. I have been running half and half LED/CFL cabinet grow for about a year and have pulled over half a gram per watt, check the links in my sig for more info.

Pure - I would say that those bud site under the LED are not getting enough wattage, the Growl LED lights have a large spectrum and they don't seem to promote that kind of growth.

Thats in the top of my considerations thanks man.

Im keeping my 400 watt HPS in the flowering area, so Im really just looking to supplement the HPS. I have a question for you guys.....
Am I correct in the idea that I just really want to supplement the red spectrum since Im only gonna use the LED for flowering?
If so, wouldnt I probably see better results using 2 LED like this: http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-High-Output-50-Watt-LED-Panel---Red-Booster.asp and getting 100 watts of red lighting, than using a higher powered tri band and getting less red light?

6 of one half dozen if the other buddy, dont make the commom mistake most people seem to when lookinng at led's and lights in particular... dont overthink and overcomplicate it too much, find a quality reputable light with proven results and good customer service, get it, grow with it and IF you feel the need for supplement lighting add it later, coupla correct spectrum cfls, t5's, hell even the new plasma induction lamps from the same company as the light i mentioned above ^^ next to the panel at flowering ive been told is pretty much the ultimate af far as 'new tech' lighting goes
