1st Grow, CFL Bagseed in Dresser

Hey all, long time reader, first time posting. I found myself a bunch of seeds in some bags I got and decided to try out growing so that I can save myself money. Decided to just go at it instead of looking into it first. I germinated a seed and then threw it into a solo cup with some dirt from my yard.

After seeming to be doing just fine with the dirt I decided to continue using it, until I started seeing a brownish color on her leaves and she slowed down her growing rate. So I came onto RIU and read about the different problems I might have been having.

I decided to get some Fox Farms Ocean Forest dirt and transplanted her into a new, real pot, and into her new dirt, which she really loved and took in all she could, taking off from her slow rut she seemed to be in.

I topped her once she got a bit bigger and she took that quite well too. She is almost 90 days into veg, and once she hits 90 I plan on turning the lights to 12/12 and start a molasses treatment as well. My box was just a quick throw together project which has light leaks that I have read can cause fluffy or light buds, so I figured I could add the molasses to help with that.

I just put an extra 2 150 watt equivalents in my box, but lower than the other lights to help reach the lower sites. I will continue to update with new information and pictures as we move along, just wanted to get a post up to let all of you here on RIU know how much help i've received here. I dedicate my first grow to you, RIU, now lets hope she really is a girl once I flip those lights. Feel free to add an comments or advice you would like. Time to toke up! :bigjoint:

Once you start to flower you will want to get that box light-tight. If you allow light to leak in during lights off time, you will likely create yourself a hermie. I've never grown in soil, so that's all I got. Good luck!

thanks for the input, I guess I should have mentioned that my box is in a basement closet that has no windows or lights in it, so im not too worried about light getting in, but im still going to make sure to block the leak areas, thanks again! +rep

I decided that I am going to flip my lights to 12/12 tonight. I am also playing with the thought of starting with the molasses tonight too. Wanted to get on here first and ask about different experiences, what seems to have worked best with you on here that have tried using molasses in your water? I will post pictures later on once she has been in bud for a few days and starts showing sex! +rep for any contributions.

So I switched the lights today while she was sleeping so that her "morning" is still the same. She seems to be chugging right along, ever since I have switched her from backyard dirt to FFOF she has seemed to grow healthy and strong with no problems so far. I decided to start the molasses in a few days, once I really find out the sex. I have a few pictures I took of her today, also of the inside of her box, noticed that I hadn't put one up yet. Would really like some replies if you feel ever so kind too. :weed:WP_000096.jpg

WP_000099.jpg this is the inside of her box, i still have some room to move her down as she flowers but I'm hoping she doesn't out grow her area, anyone have some guesses on how she'll grow in flowering?
WP_000095.jpgSide view, you can see her bushiness here.
WP_000097.jpg Her top view, I took off a few of her bigger fan leaves to get some more light exposure.

A very impressive 1st grow! I've been growing outside for years, and this winter I tried my hand at "indoor", with CFL.
I like the result's I'm getting considering the low wattage used. I wish you, Good luck & good grow.......BB

day 4 of flowering, still no sex yet that I can see. Gave her some molasses too, just in case. Not too much to update on yet, will update with pictures when I see sex.

I realize this is a well known fact but it does seem a bit strange because why wouldnt the moon at night cause the same issue outdoors? anyone else thought of this?

I had thought about the moonlight too, I just kinda figure it changes when a plant grows up in a controlled environment as compared to one grown outdoors. but like I said this is my first grow so my knowledge is obviously nowhere near the vets that have experience.

Yea I am in the same boat but already have learned tons of knowledge from the experts around here. i just haven't seen the moonlight topic come up yet so i thought i would bring it up

Hi Guys, this may clear the "Moonlight" issue for you:

Good luck & good grow.......BBbongsmilie

Looks like you're doing OK there mate - keep doing whatever you're doing and hopefully it'll be a girl.

During flowering it could double or even triple in size, so u might wanna try LST'ing it (Low Stress Training).... if you're not sure what this means, you basically need to carefully tie down the branches to stop it getting too high. Your aim is to create branches (and eventually buds) at the same low level, rather than one main cola rising high into your cab.

still no sex, I can swear I see a white pistil but I can swear I also see pollen sacks so who really knows, im probably just too anxious to find out. However, I did notice what seemed to be roots starting to grow from my stalk but above the dirt and actually pretty close to the first node, anyone have any ideas on what this might be and any solutions if its gonna hinder my plants growth?

thanks for the info BB! pretty interesting. Digg, I've thought about LST, probably going to do that if my girl actually turns out to be a girl.

Whenever I see "above ground" rooting starting, I add soil to give a little more foundation.
Good luck & good grow.......BB

What kind and how many lights are you using?
I used 4 100 watt equivalents for veg, can't say I know the lumens or if its daylight or the spectrum because to be honest when I started this I didn't even think my seeds would start. I added 2 150 watt equivalents for flowering, once again idk about the lumens or anything, just got the lights, didn't really read the details too much.

Being my first grow I didn't pay too much attention to detail, as im getting further into this as well as more interested in more grows (not only for the obvious benefits, but as a hobby and with a newly found interest in general botany) im starting to pay attention to details...for my future grows
