If SHTF, are you ready?

When I was younger we had malamute/timber wolf mixed dogs... gorgeous animals. and much better with kids than the huskies, some huskies will have a temper.. lol... always preferred malamutes over huskies..:blsmoke:

But.. it's just too damn cold further north, I've been in Chicago my whole life, and I never wanna get colder than this.. LOL...:blsmoke:
i hate cold probably more than you do, but we're talking about survival and not living.

a pack of malamutes could keep us warm and protected from bears and shit, and help us hunt and move around.

we could get the whole pack high :)

aren't they awesome? http://www.pups4sale.com.au/alaskan_malamute_02a.jpg

yellow stone is about due to erupt. look it up, its the largest volcano in the world. When i say large it would cover the earth in a atomic winter. Nothing would survive for a 100 years. no reason to prepare. Check out this Supervolcano Yellowstone

dude i would get an island and just build a sweet little spot for until things calm down
and just surf all day could you imagine not needing school or a job or credit getting a pedicure or whatever none of it would matter, cause shit was just fucked up everywhere. but then i start thinking should i be a fighter and help or should i be tucked away with a small few somwhere out of harms way

any type of setup to save yourself & your familiy will need defense, and im not talkin about a little pee shooter. u would have to build militia to defend and then you will become "the war"

than once u succesfully defending your group some in the group will start to second guess your militia, like hay maybe we shouldnt defend like this so much we kill people that want to hurt us and steal our food maybe if we just talk to them we can convince them to go starve somwhere else. then we will be where we are today full circle

just have your gun, when its time, give the kids some sleeping pills and put them down before "they" come and try to eat you, make sure u save the last bullet for yourself. any survivers will not be human anymore

I really don't want to think about the end of time, it's way too un-pleasant, But I do have a supply of AK ammo, 500 rounds, some 357 ammo, lots of 9mm ammo, some .380 ammo. some .22 ammo ands a few rounds of 7MM mag for my sniper gun, Oh yeah and a couple a hundred 30 cal carbine rounds. I hope I never have to use any of them, oh yeah, I forgot my .45acp rounds, 50 or more of those, and my .25 barreta rounds, 50.

I know that there are a lot of people here who "feel" or "know" something bad is coming- whether you believe the end of the world is coming, martial law is coming, natural disaster, fascism, whatever, are any of you actually taking any steps to prepare?

Was just wondering what the consensus was around here.. I haven't noticed people preparing much at all, just doing a lot of flapping of their gums. Maybe I'm wrong...

Any thoughts? Anyone?

In my opinion, preparing for something like that is absurd:hump:

This isn't just for "end of the world" times, disasters and situations could arise where self preservation becomes vital.

I agree, without a defense for your "preparation", you're not ready.

Between the buckets of beans and the gallons of water in basement, plus the gun safe I think I'm pretty well covered. I also have enough bud to tide me over till the fires are put out and the fascists are buried. Then I'll have no authoritarians messing with me and fertile soil for growing:mrgreen:

I think it is pretty common for people to think about end of the world scenarios. And most of the world's many, many religions have some kind of end of times story. So I don't think it is absurd or outlandish for people to think about this kind of stuff. And I certainly believe natural or man-made disaster scenario planning is a good thing, moving out to the boonies and being self-sufficient seems extreme. Though being self-sufficient in the boonies sounds desirable without the chaos of a survival scenario.

Now to the reality - obviously we can't predict what may happen in the future, but some kind of natural disaster or terrorist-style attacks seem to be the two most likely things that would cause people to begin going into "survivalist mode". Now to escalate into a large enough crazy situation where martial law was declared and citizens may start an armed rebellion would most likely require a constant, wide-spread terrorist style attack or something as yet unforeseen (e.g. economic collapse).

So the first items - natural disaster or terrorist attack - if you aren't near the actual devastation (in which case you may not be able to implement any survival plan due to death), then there really is no need to grab the guns and get out. You may want to grab some clothes, food, medicine and anything else you think the victims may need and go help them out.

The only scenario left (the shit really explodes) and martial law is declared would most likely mean anyone caught with a firearm would be imprisoned (at least). So you would have to live on the move, hunted and engage in guerilla-style attacks provided you can figure out who the "enemy" is or you can surrender to the martial-law state and live in relative safety or you can try to go as far from everything as possible and live your life alone and in peace - though that scenario seems unlikely given the circumstances.

There seems to be way too many variables to actually plan on being in a single place - you would need safe houses all over the area. You couldn't count on any single dwelling surviving or being safe to inhabit.

So while the though of post-apocalyptic disaster is fun to fantasize about, I think the reality would be much harsher and the chance of long-term survival with or without planning is slim.

Predicting the future is tricky. Who knows what unforeseen circumstances could cause humanity to lose a sizable portion of its population, infrastructure and ability to maintain civilization.

I guess it isn't too difficult to imagine a scenario like that. Being as self-sufficient as possible now seems the only way to prepare for something like that!

:hump::hump::hump: I love my privacy, I hate crowds of sheeple, I love my peace and quiet. I also think it's the best environment to raise children in. The political and survival scenarios are just the icing on the cake for me. :blsmoke: Honestly though, if SHTF, the cities will feel it first- the country would be the best place survival wise.
