Details:

1x 550W LED from hydroponichut.
20x greenomatics in hugo blocks hand watered.

Lets see how it does....

Day 18....I think!!

How big is the area you are looking to cover with this light? According to HH "Power Consumption: 385 - 420w (full illumination)"

be careful with those i burnt the crap outta mine with quarter strength nutes. Of course i didn't check ph either during the grow but still averaged 17g per plant.

Nice setup but if anyway possible lower that LED within 2 inches of the tops! or raise your plants on a table or something to get them closer it should really help.

Thanks man, I will spread them over a 4x4 area, the point being that it needs to compare to my 600's that I use in separate 4x4 spaces alongside this tent, the 20 that have just germed will probably go under a 600 for comparison.

I'm looking to replace HPS with LED if it performs.

You pointed out correctly that it draws 420W at full illumination, I will use the red spectrum alone for the last 2 weeks to see it's capability. If it does yield the same as the 600 then I will do a full replacement.

Yes that was a bit of nute burn at day 11, the EC was at 0.80 and the PH was 5.8. I flushed PH'ed water through them at EC=0.60 and they have recovered very well. I have since been watering them every 3 days with 0.60EC/5.8PH. They are just starting to show maturity now and I expect them to start flowering and gaining size rapidly during the stretch this next 2 weeks.

I had the lights at 20 inches for the first 2 weeks and have now at the first signs of flowering lowered them to 18 inches. After consulting with Ben the owner of Hydrohut he explained that the UV was just too intense for seedlings and the lights were better utilised higher above the canopy till the plants were able enough. This was based on his own experience of using them.

I also need to cover the full 4x4 space and so I can't get too close to the canopy, I need to see if it can dominate the 4x4 even in the corners as well as a 600 can.

EDIT: Was it the greenomatic you yielded 17g? was it dry weight? I grew one out in January/February and got 28g dry from a single fat cola. I'm looking for an ounce dry from each plant as a benchmark.

is that a flowering led? cause i see a lot of red spectrum. I have a lighthouse blackstar led that i used for veg, and my plants didnt seem to grow as fast. they did grow very squat with very tight node spaces. the leaves seemed to stay small and not grow so big, but they had tons of leaves. i love my led and no heat from it is awesome. just figured id give my experience on veging with a bloom led. it does work fine just a little different from the norm. but then again your growing autos.

It has two selective switches for vegging and for flowering, the images you see that are very white are vegging lights on and then full spectrum. In a few weeks you will see the pure red spectrum only.

I did use this for vegging my 4 mothers for 2 months on veg mode only and it tripled them in size in that time, she is very good for that, it's the flower we still need to establish.

yes it was green o matics i "averaged" 17g's per. Out of the 10 i had some runts and some big ones. But like i said i didnt moniter ph and was also giving them tap water straight out the tap plus the nute burn.

Okay had one plant show what looked like either premature bananas or male pollen sacks today, bit hard to tell exactly as they are supposed to all be fems, perhaps just a hermie. IT has been removed now.

I was going to add a pic but realised I have deleted them....doh!!

If I were you I would flower with all the lights on. On my LED the white diodes actually put off 3 wavelengths, a red, a blue, and green. So it may be quite worth it to keep them on, some flowering panels out there work great and they use only white crees.

If the plant can use the light in veg, it can use it in flower ;) (although depending on the diodes used for the veg lights on that panel it might not be worth it). Its a good looking panel so I imagine they should be worth it, you should ask them if they think its worth it to run all the lights in flower (although I don't know if they would admit results for cannabis? You might have to find another grower?
