A Discreet 2 X 600 W Closet Grow

I had a journal before, but decided to scrap it.

Thought I might give it another go.

STRAINS:

ICE
Aurora Indica
Snow White
Venus Flytrap

The VEG chamber.

50/50 coco/perlite mix

Nothing fancy, but about 180 W in CFL's and a broad spectrum flurrie.

Kept them small, in 3" pots as I prepped my flowering chamber.

LST'd some, topped some......

All vegging was done with MiracleGro general houseplant food.




The FLOWERING chamber

So, my flowering chamber is a 2' X 8' X 8' closet, lined with white/black poly, and AlumaGlow (AKA Panda film). White/black poly stretched across closet opening, behind two sliding doors. Then I added a zipper behind each door, allowing easy access to both sides of the closet.

I run 2 X 600 W PlantaStar dual band HPS on Lumatek digital ballasts. Running horizontal in basic batwing style reflectors.

Running a 6" Vortex fan attached to a Can50 carbon filter, throttled by a speed controller, and a 4" passive intake for negative pressure. Not a hint of smell in the house. My bucket of ONAgel gets zero use.

The flowering medium is 50/50 Coco/perlite, and I run 8" Ezee pots, with reservoirs underneath, and I drilled holes for extra nylon rope wicks. Works fairly well.

SO, here's some grow shots.

13 plants total.

A few days after triggering......IIRC

Venus Flytrap.....all phenos are straight up REAL purple weed. The calyxex are all purple or purple/pink. NOT just a few streaks of purple......full on Barney purple weed......love it.

42-46 days into flowering varying shots....

The ICE plant taken at 46 days...... not very big but hella frosty.

Not really. I have my digitals dialed back to 360 W each, so that helps. I live WAY up northern Canada, so summer nights are cool, plus in a basement on cement floors.

I run the Vortex exhaust 24 hours a day.

My one wireless thermometer reads at 86 degrees, but it is in the direct light, about 2 feet above the canopy, pretty much at light level.

The other wireless thermometer sits on the floor, and during lights on, reads about 71 degrees.

I take a reading occasionally at canopy level and is usually about 80-81. A little warm, but again thermo in direct light.

To add some info. I am using General Hydroponics as of late veg, and CarboLoad. In the final stages, I will start to ween them off the GH, but keep the CarboLoad. In place of the GH, I will be feeding them CarboLoad and Advanced Nutrients Big Bud powder. Possibly some Advanced Nutrients Bud Blood as well.

They are starting to yellow now, as I am having a HELL of a time keeping them stocked with nitrogen. All I have to do is maintain as best as I can until the end.

All the plants went thru a massive stress just prior to flowering when I up-canned them to 8" pots. I switched to 50/50 perlite/vermiculite. The plants absolutely HATED the mix, and started showing every kind of deficiency. So I had to switch them back, after surgery to untangle all the wicks from the roots, to coco/perlite. They immediately took after in less than 24 hours, but the damage was done, and I made the mistake of not stocking them with enough N before flowering.

They took off and grew real nice, but they used up their stockpile of N. So it's a constant batlle now, but the next batch will have some amendments.

I grew Ice on my very first attempt and it came out incredible. 16 ounces from two plants. It's an incredible yielder when you grow 'em out big.

very nice man, i just started a closet grow with the same dimensions but am using cfls for now to keep the temps down since i havent set up any kind of exhaust fan yet...i was wondering where ur exhaust exits to? good luck and im pulling up a chair for this one...

Yeah that ICE is the only remaining one, and it's tiny. Was always a runt and I never bothered to grow it out, then the other two ICE hermied on me @ 2 wks.

But I am going to take it down kinda early, rejuvenate it, then clone it. I also have 10 more ICE and a replacement pack ????? on the way. Nirvana was kind enough to offer me a care package of some sorts. But it is SUPER frosty.

The closet is in a room that is kept dark except for "lights on". No light leaks then. The air comes into that room under the door, then sucks thru gaps in the closet door assembly (two sliding doors). I can hang dry buds in the dark outside room, and the Vortex sucks that room clean, plus the closet, and no smell in the house whatsoever, unless I bring the plants into the living room or bathroom. Even then the Vortex exchanges air so fast, it only stinks for about 5 or 10 minutes. It "cleans" the entire basement within a half hour, easily.

The exhaust kicks into the rec room, and I just open the windows in the basement for air exchange. Works well now, so should be good in the winter with a dehum if the rH gets too high in the house.

Shouldn't though, with forced air heating, which tends to keep rH fairly dry in the winter. We'll see then I guess.

Oh you got the Ice from Nirvana? Me too waaaay back when I was still working with seeds. I stick to clones now, but Nirvana's Ice was my introduction to serious growing. Here's a pic of the biggest Ice cola I grew. That one bud was 1.1 ounces dry, and big as a football wet. I've since been trying to do the same with notoriously low yielding OG's. I came pretty close with my latest Diablo with a .89 ounce cola, but growing a one ounce OG nug is easier said than done. I highly recommend growing out Nirvana's Ice to monster size. It's a MASSIVE yielder.

Oh, and Dude, this shit, the high was out of this world. Such a euphoric smoke. I really do miss this weed from my first grow... go figure. Maybe it's because two Ice trees yielded me a pound of great weed on my first attempt?

I wish I could yield that much off my last ICE in the batch. WOWZERS !!!!

The other two I had, hermied for some reason at about 2-3 wks and by wk 4 I took them down.

I smoked the dried ICE buds, again about 6 weeks premature, and it was nearly as good as dank I purchased in town.

My buddy smoked some, then called me the next day. He was like...."Holy Shit man, I haven't been weed burnt in the morning in years !!!!"

Just knocks you out, so it would be amazing if they got to finish.

Hopefully I can rejuve the ICE you see in the pics, but grow the clones MUCH bigger before triggering. Also plan on flowering the rejuved ICE mom after cuts have taken/rooted.

Yeah, you can see by my pic of the ICE on page 1 it is super frosty, and Lordjin just took it to a whole new level as you can see the frost, and obviously, the size it can reach.

I hope you get good results with the aeroponics.

I have 10 more femmed ICE, 5 femmed Snow Whites (love this strain so far), and 5 femmed AK48 coming.

Also, Nirvana is sending me some kind of care package for the troubles I had with hermies on two ICE plants.

I still pay my bills online, but they get a set amount every month until I start getting my actual bills. If I'm short, they can send me a bill.......LOL

Looking forward to checking out your journal. I really wanna see the ICE in an aeroponics setup, from seed to weed.

Aeroponics kind of freaks me out, in the way NOS or Methane injection does with engines. Oh so cool, but in the wrong hands can be deadly. In the right hands, it's a joy to behold.

Good luck with the ICE. I also recommend the Snow White, and if you want a mutant, giant cola plant that's easy to trim, and TRUE purple calyxes...........real purple weed, then I suggest Venus Flytrap.

I am also looking at Nirvana's Wonder Woman and Raspberry Cough (father is ICE) to add to my collection.

I know some people don't like Nirvana, for what ever reasons. From service, to genetics.

I am completely happy with their service, and despite the 2 ICE plants hermi-ing (which I believe I stressed them into it), I am happy with what I am achieving so far with their "weak-ass genetics" that someone claimed once a while back.

Thanks man.........welcome to my journey.

As far as the rot..........I think a combination of the plants roots being too wet.............and I mistakenly decided to shut down my oscillating fans during lights off for noise concerns. Within two days, rot appeared.

I will never turn them off again. As soon as I put "Ned Stark" in front of a fan, the rot slowed, but the damage was already done. Tonight, when I was able to pull a few more leaves out with zero resistance, I made the call to decapitate it.

At first I thought it was a deficiency that caused the leaves to die, then rot appeared, but now I think it was the other way around. The rot set in, and killed the leaves, leaving them looking deficient......when in fact they were necrotic.


Temps are good around 80 degrees, rH is around 38-40% avg. I think it was a combo of too wet of a plant, and the fans being shut off for a few "nights"

@ peaceloveandpaws.............thanks man. Appreciate the kind words. I wish I hadn't fucked up so many times with this grow, but that's what happens when you don't put on your gardening gloves for over half a decade.

Lost 25% of the babies early on in veg, then nearly lost them all just before triggering, and culled two ICE plants for hermies (due to all the stress I put them thru with a shitty Perlite/vermiculite mix). Next batch should be better.

I am trying to figure out the cupping I am experiencing with my leaves. If you refer to the 3rd pic from the bottom of my second to last post (the Snow White) you can really see it.

Now, as far as I can tell, it's some kind of water/root stress. I am thinking the plants are cupping to reduce surface area exposed to light, and thus less transpiration of water to the atmoshphere. It's like the plants lose more water than they are uptaking from the roots.

Almost like shading itself from the light and conditions. Perhaps upping my rH would help.....though my recent blast of bud rot kind of makes me lean away from that option.

Anyone have any suggestions. They still seem to be doing quite well, despite all the cupping, but I would like to at least try to figure out the cause.
