I have the seed sprouting...now what?

Ok so, I got my seeds to split open in a glass of water and I've planted them. Eventhough this is just an experiment I would really like to be successful. As of now, being that it is hot outside, I have my plants sitting in the kitchen window where they get warmth and ample sunlight. I would say about 6-8 hours a day of sunlight.

They seem to be growing perfectly fine right now but when winter comes should I get them some kind of lamp? What about fertilizer?

Like I said I'm a pot growing newbie. :joint:

Are lights expensive?

You know times are rough, I'd rather the bastards grow naturally. Shit never goes according to my plan so I will probably invest in some lighting for my buddies.

nah, i got 2-packs at walmart for like 8 bucks. the expensive light is the 400w that you need for flowering. it costs around 150, but it will bring you YEARS of joy!

i guess i could be more specific. 26watt cfl are like 5 bucks ea, or 2 for 8 at walmart. get good soil, like scotts premium. trust me i am having success with it. during veg they will need nitrogen and other stuff, during flower no nitro and mor potash and phosphorus. I found some catcus food that i'm using on my flowering plants. its 2-7-7, i HOPE that lil nitro aint too bad ;) GOOD LUCK!

yea get the GE daylight 6500k blue lights for your little veggies, and then you'll need a red light for flowering. Hope it all works out for you!

Are you kidding me?? This girl is a newbie at it!! The way you're talking, you are too... thats like going to the veterinarian and asking him whats wrong with your car.

Now for lights... theres a few choices, go on craigslist and find T5's... you can get them for around $125. You can go through seedling, veg, and flower with those... and if you have a little extra money get some Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium lights. Those are a bit pricey depending on what size you need which is determined by what your grow room size is.

As for the retard that said no nitrogen during flowering... hes a fucking idiot! You still want nitrogen, just not as much.... Take this advice, do NOT take advice about flowering from someone when youre still in the vegetative stage and asking for advice what to do next when youre talking about seedlings. People want to throw out how much they know about this shit.... when in reality they probably havent grown shit.

Veg stage.... your going to need lights(T5's or MH & HPS, or both if you can afford),nutes, soil, and tons of patience! Transplant the seedlings into a pot bigger than the one you have them in now... not too much bigger though. You dont want to put a 1 inch plant into a 5 gallon pot. But put it into where it has a little room to grow. bury it up to its first round leaves which are called the cotyledons. If you have flourescent lights.... frop them to about an inch or two above the top of the plant... of you have the MH or HPS (which are HIDS) raise them up high enough where you can put your hand in between the light and the top of the plant without your hand feeling too hot or uncomfortable. Remember!!! If you wouldnt like it, your plant wouldnt either. Any more questions, just ask ill be more than glad to help... thats why were all on this site anyways, To get AND give help.

Oh I meant to menntion that if you are using HID lights, use the MH for vegging. Some people like to go all MH from seed to flower, some like HPS from seed to flower. I like MH for veg, and HPS for flower. If you do get HIDS, be sure to get the Hortilux bulbs... theyre so much better than regular bulbs you get from any other company. Hope I helped

hey dude, you're pretty good and reading and writing :) I started my "real" grow for less than 50 dollars and have 4 pretty healthy females flowering a clone and 6 veggies. I mean, it'll be years before I reach the status of you, where I'm blowin' $120 more per veg light than I need to, and when I post ONLY 100% fact info on a freakin pot head message board that I hit up when I'm blazed (all day) and talk to other ppl with that dynamic in mind... shit i didn't know i was gonna be judged and graded. hahahahahahaha :hump:

*** oh i am at your status on here...***:wall:

I was under the impression she was like a normal person...with limited funds...why are your suggestions so pricey... we GET IT! you know stuff. you don't know that 6500k $4 bulbs with grow plants? and use very little power? you need an hps for flowering and that DOES cost a lot, why make the entire proj so expensive? I like the format of these threads because you can get different opinions and make your own decisions.:dunce:

We're all a family here guys, relax. That being said, I'd rather see you spring for a HPS light. Let me explain why you'd want a MH or HPS light over CFLs. They are a bit more expensive, to be sure but the difference is noticeable for sure. With CFLs you need them to be right up on the plant and you constantly have to adjust. It becomes a bit of a hassle and a mess. Whereas with one big 150W lamp (You can change out the bulbs, just make sure the lamp supports that feature) you can have MH and HPS, two lights that do amazing, produce bigger yields with less hassle. If you're strapped for cash and you're just doing a few plants, CFL is the way to go. Don't expect a lot of smoke though

Edit: A 150Watt HPS (and you can stick with HPS seed to harvest) will run you about 70 bucks +20 for shipping if you don't have a place in town. CFLs really aren't cheap since you need about five or so for two plants and they get expensive fast. You can grow more and ultimately save more time and money with HPS/MH. Just remember if you DO go with CFLs that you want 100 watts but you want 100 actual watts, not equivalent.

:D I am doing a small grow, cause it is dangerous :D hahaha AND had super limited funds, and wanted to put in the "if you aint got money either" you still CAN grow. I wouldnt use cfls if i only had 1 plant, but i hope 1-2 oz per plant will be low odor and plenty to get me to next harvest and so on... after my first grow here btw... no plant guru, and think i'm doing mighty fine for having no help other than folks like dloc :D

they are flowering under 400w hps... i just veg using cfls
Ok so you just tried arguing with me in hopes of looking good in front of this girl for no reason. Your preaching about running cheap CFLs and you yourself are also using "expensive" bulbs such as the HPS..... Why would you use those lights?? CAUSE THEY FUCKING WORK!!! As for her being strapped for cash... i read that she said this. That is why i suggested T5s. Low cost to run, and you can use them from seed to flower. Not as good as HIDS, but a hell of a lot better than CFLs. All you did with those 3 posts were prove to everyone that my suspicions were correct... and you dont know what you're talking about!

Not to mention the setup your talking about, i dont think 99% of people would use. I dont know one person that would use CFLs over T5s... no matter how broke they were. T5s are not that much more, and dont cost much to run. So why would you be trying to get this girl bullshit results?? Cause you're using them?? THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT!!!!

You are right about one thing only here... Freedom of choice... it is her choice... She can either spend the extra $75 bucks and get lights the cheap way... for about $125 bucks. Or go cheap and run your idiot setup that would cost less for the cfls, but more when she buys the HPS. That literally blows my mind that you're arguing about staying cheap.... and you're using a HPS.... You are such a fucktard! Stay in the Newb section! Do not spread your idiocracy to anyone else on this site. Bad enough you did it to one person.
