If you can produce a light like that for sub $600 I would definitely buy it. Just outta curiousity whats the spectrum ratio you are using? Most companies are using like 7:1:1:1 Red/far red:Green:blue. Were you including any far red (>720 NM)? Supposedly exposure to that reduces darkness time by 2 hours. My light has it but I'm afraid to deviate from 12/12, but with far red ur supposed to be able to go 14/10 which has the same effects as 12/12 and allows flowering plants to recieve more light => bigger buds. BTW that info is from Ed Rosenthals book, in flowering section. He says exposure to 730 NM just before lights out reduces the 2 hour time required for the flowering hormone to change to its active state. Havent dont much research but if I could give my ladies an extra 2 hours of light in flower it would be nice.First off thanks for all the feedback guys!
The light design is coming on very well, and will be available very soon.
A few things I can confirm so far-
-The light will be around 300W (Actual power)
-True 3W Single Chip LED's (Driven a little under max power, which will extend the lifespan of the light)
-It has a feature which enables it to be linked up to up to 4 other lights of its kind (This works two fold-It makes it more practical, 4 x 300W lights through 1 timer, 1 power plug = equals less cables. Also, it means you will be able to have more coverage and more control over your coverage. As opposed to using 1 x 500-1000W light)
-I have developed my own spectrum formula (Based on my own research)
-I am working on using no glass panel between the LED's and the plants. (The glass panel can absorb anywhere between 8 - 15% of precious light). I would like something to protect the LED's from the outside environment though, I am looking into other options.
-All internal components (fans, drivers etc) are of very high quality.
-I am still testing a range of different lenses ( 30/60/90/120 degrees. My personal choice is the 90 degree lens, but the decision will be based on my research).
-The casing has a protective layer on it to prevent scratches, which in turn will prevent rust if the grow room is humid.
-The light will come with a 3 year warranty (I will service all the lights in house and guarantee a quick turn around time - that's if they develop a fault...which is unlikely)
-The light will come with a digital timer, instruction booklet, warranty card.
-I am working on a flat rate cost for world wide shipping - somewhere around $50.
And finally, the all important cost...
$600 (I am working on this)
I grow with LED's. I know what I am talking about. I am an LED grower and my light is designed for LED growers.
I have considered everything in regards to the design and function of the light - This is all based on my own findings and scientific fact.
I want to make LED more mainstream - I believe this means a drop in price - which in turn means working to lower profits (Whilst not skrimping on quality - this is essential).

I have far red spotlights that I use in addition to my panel. I haven't really done enough experimenting with them to be an expert on the subject, but here.s what I've noticed: far red exposure helps to make the buds more dense. I feel like the nugs getting direct exposure to the far red lights are more sense than those not. This was the main reason I bought them. I haven't tried the 14/10 with far red thing yet, but I may explore that later.

Haha ya man its some interesting shit. It was hard for me to understand all that shit he was talkin about but it makes sense. His book was the best reading on growing sense I have ever come across. Dont get me wrong I got so much off the forums but having it all in one place was sweet.thats some interesting shit bro im gonna look into that.

Nice man. Supposedly far red also reaches deep into the canopy, and lower leaves that only end up recieving far red end up stretching out to reach light. Ive seen this first hand with my light, some of the lower fan leaves have 6-8 inch stems and are bending lol. But they got to the "light."

I've just started a new grow using a Kessil h150 General Purpose Purple. My hydro store guy gave me a huge discount because he wanted me to see how it did and review it. I'm very impressed with this light, it is BRIGHT. It hurts to even look in my grow tent it's so bright. Currently my little sprout has already caught up in size in just 3 days to a friend's plants, and they started their grow a couple weeks ago. The light is 8" above my sprout, I had it closer, but it caused slight light burn because it was too bright for the little thing; currently I'm vegging on a 20/4 light schedule. My little sprout is a nice deep green and has no stretch at all. I'm so impressed I'm already planning to purchase 3 more Kessil lights.

Nice, I just got an LED and starting 6 clones under it to see how they do. Rooted them under some CFLs, giving them another week to veg then flowering them.

Based on my research, Kessil do perform best watt for watt. But, it is also the most expensive watt for watt.

Just checked out those Kessils never heard of em. They seem pretty cool I couldn't find prices on their site tho. 21 chips on one board with a 60 degree wide beam. These would prolly be great for spot enhancement during bloom or supplemental. I think it would grow a nice top cola but because of the beam being focused mainly in the center the outer tops might not get the best light.

The Kessil price is a bit high, but at the same time there's the old saying of "you get what you pay for". On top of that, they stand behind their products, which is always nice. They also have 2 other designs, the w150 which is essentially the same as the h150, but it's designed to reflect over a larger area, then they also have the h350 which is a 90wt high intensity power house (probably would be the ideal light for my set-up and covers a 4x4' space vs the 2x2' of the h150). Right now I'm only growing a single plant under a single h150, but I'm so impressed with the light I already have plans to purchase the h350 in magenta which would then be used in conjunction with my gen purpose purple I have while also switching out booster red and blue h150s depending upon the growth stage. Kessil also has some interesting light movers that spin to evenly distribute light+lets you customize the exact wavelength colors your plant(s) receive. But back to the price, LEDs undeniably (unless shit quality) outlast HPS+MH, so while they might start out more expensive initially, you don't have to change the bulbs and they draw a lot less power and they're perfect for stealth grows because of the lack of heat produced. Right now I think the ppl hating on LEDs just don't take the time to research or feel like honestly investigating in a quality light so they get a pos LED panel from china and then say all LED lights are worthless.

Me personally to hell with company info as all try to sell the same crap. Spectrum's are already nearly perfect just the power versus panel size which equals penetration is what we must test. If it is not documented by an unbiased grower (sponsored the vendor can have their lights back) the market most likely will not except the printed word. Vendors "No pain no gain" seems to be the consensus. IMHO Sorry for the straight talk but that is how I walk. Need a guinea to boost your perceived truth PM me but I would not inflate my opinions especially with 25yrs of electrical engineering in the skull cap.

I honestly don't know enough about the tech side of LEDs to be able to pick out a light based upon the chips used. I tend to research the companies themselves, especially the press areas of a companies site. I've looked to LED for awhile because of the low power draw and low heat, but didn't decide on a brand until I brought it up to my hydro store guy and he gave me a great discount on a Kessil, granted I wrote a review for the store. Youtube is another place I research lights, user uploaded, not demo videos from the LED companies.
