Myth Buster in Action

explain to me this "bottom feeding". this sounds interesting, esp. when it comes to grow secrets. ;-)

Bottom feeding, is where you pour the nute-mix in the trays, then let the pots suck it up. I prefer to not do it this way, simply because I've never found a need to. I think DrFever does it to make sure that all the roots receive nutrients, and in my case, I water/feed so heavily, that it's not an issue. When I water or feed, i totally drench my soil, so that I 'know' the whole medium got soaked with a fresh mixture of fert/water. Same principle, different method. Also, I use tons of perlite, so overwatering isn't a concern of mine. I could flush mine everytime I feed or water, without a worry in the world. :)

I stay away from bottom feeding, because in my mind, top-feeding does a better ujob of rinsing waste material out of the medium, whereas bottom-feeding would seem to keep everything in place, and add risk of build-up. That's just me though, and my OCD mind, always working.....lol

i used to drench my medium and after doing a few experiments found that gravity always wins meaning roots always go down
root size is a big factor on bud size and overall yields of any fruiting plant comes down to size of root system lots of people drench there mediums litterally flushing them everytime what i found is that it can cause many issue like symtoms like over watering, even yellowing i found plants tend to get even stressed and slow down in growth.
by adding just like 1 cup of water on top of your medium and giving them watering on bottom of trays gives root a chance to search for the water
if you were to go out and dig a hole outside you would find that a foot down the soil is very moist rather then being dry up top thats why when you plant any thing out door or indoor you make your hole add water in it then place your plant in it and add little water on top
Jaw i would really like you to try a few plants that way you by just bottom feeding you will change your ways in a hurry i can promise you that
If you ever say DWC plants there in a sense bottom fed and there yields are very impressive and root systems are crazy big
the secret is making your roots work for there water just like they do outdoor

This is all I have for comparison, atm, they're about 2 weeks older than yours, about 12-14" tall, and vegged under T8 fluoros, which tend to grow somewhat slow, but not too bad. I have a 600 and 1000 HPS now, which I may use for vegging. What light do you use?

they were 3 " clones when i transplanted into 12" pots
Ok.. My plants are on day 11 veg and they are only 5 inches tall right now.... They are in 6 inch pots at the moment with regular potting soil and I use half nutes of miracle grow 20/20/20 and they are under 4 daylight bulbs and 2 aquarium bulbs , all 40 watt a piece and 4 foot bulbs... temps run around 82 degrees with airflow through cabinet....

i am sold on bottom feeding plants you still top feed but also adding nutes on bottom of tray so soil soaks it up thats the ticket i think keeping your medium not to drenched but rather lightly moist making your roots work to bottom more roots = more yield

I think I will take one of my three plants and do it through bottom feeding and do an experiment with all three to see which one comes out better.... Oh yeah, Update on my first plant dude... It was freakin awesome... I took one hit off of it and it fried my ass... unknown what strain it was though... I only had one seed like it and boy do I wish I had more.. It had a slight smell of a skunk weed but the smell of it was sweet and very likable and I didnt have to cure it for long, It didnt make me cough or nothin, went down smooth as hell....
