Guys...why cant we have a discussion without it becoming in the end jabs and insults at eachother and no discussion of the topic at hand. Im not saying Im perfect because I do it too,( just ask hephasteaus420) but it gets us nowhere. Usually I would just walk away, however there are some of you who are very well informed, perhaps with info I disagree with, but enough to at least have an interesting discussion. This is an important topic and I think given the correct frame of mind we all stand a large chance to learn some new perspective here.
So,lets consider it a given that we all despise some of the comments, opinions and viewpoints. Some of us really dislike some of us. Thats.fine. Lets talk.
I guess I have a different view of immigration. Since I was young my father has made it a point for me to travel outside the us, usually to latin america. He wasnt wealthy, but made it a priority. He said we are more than americans, we are citizens of earth. After college I spent 4 years living in SE Asia. I met my wife there, I brought her back to america where we live now. Much of the.most valued things in my life exist or happened in other.countries. I have experienced kindness and hospitality all over the world. I have witnessed the threads that tie all of humanity together as one. Of course it wasnt all sunshine and roses, but such is life in general. It pains me to have had to look an amazingly dynamic person who is a friend of mine in the eye.and know that many people in my country wouldnt want them there simply because they.were born somewhere else. Sorry, you're vietnamese, or mexican, or cambodian, turkish, colombian, algerian, or iranian, your a great person, the thought of the opportunity to work hard and earn a modest living excites you, but you cant come. Thats hard man....
This country owes its.existance to the spirit of imigration, the spirit of uprooting your life for the opportunity to better it through hard work. And we shun people while they live in abject poverty and oppressive governments. And most americans call themselves christian as they close the door on billions of peoples hopes and dreams. Apparantly the american dream is for americans only, everyone else can get their own right?
