Considering two SOLARFLARES or one SOLARSTORM

Do it!! Id go with the solarstorm with the added uvb. Get.on that feedback program and get it for half price.
 
awesome! the decision seems pretty financial... do you have $2000 or $900 to spend :P

Personally, I'd rather have 4 Solarflares @ $1800 than 1 Solarstorm @ $2000 if you got the money...
 
if you are asking what to get, I say 800W over 400W !! Looking forward to see how you do with them... have you seen any journal yet with 5W diodes? I know I only have the 90W HSS but so far I cant say that I am impress with the 5W, it could be just me or my setup... I cant say they are not doing good for 90W though just not impressive... the blackstar is impressing me now, much cheaper. But I dont know anything about california light works. http://bcledlights.com is a canadian company out of bc that sells the same light for the same price with less shipping fees, you are in canada right? It would be nice to see a grow with them but too expensive for me right now.
 
you can add uvb with reptile lights from the pet store

I prefer to have more 'lower' (but not too low) powered lights over less 'higher' powered lights for the added maneuverability, coverage and flexibility during the grow cycle... I also feel like some of the highest powered LED panels out there are probably a little too intense in too small of a coverage area, and don't provide the best total coverage... i dunno...
 
plus all your eggs are in one basket with the one light in terms of maintenance/repair/replacement when something goes wrong...

I'd rather have the 4 smaller lights in the event of having to troubleshoot some hardware failure or something... and replacement is $450 a pop vs $2000 a pop /shrug
 
Yeah I would get the solar flares, over the 1 solar storm. But if you could get on that feedback program. I would do that. Great light for a steller price.
 
George is willing to help with the costs of 4 solarflares (no, I'm not giving you all the details :P), I've received nothing but superb customer service thus far from California Light Works....

I'm strongly, strongly considering this.



I could get away with 2 Solarflares per 4'x4' tent, run two flowering tents, and 1 veg tent (4'x2') with my Blackstars and my Pro-Grow...

I should be looking at growing 15-30 plants legally, within the next 2 months.... I'll be able to make videos with no mask, and I can actually start using my name... :D
 
So would you be getting the full cycle or the bloom booster models of the solarflares? I'd still go with the solarstorm if you can get on the feedback program. Having multiple smaller panels is convenient, but so is having an extra 200-400w with uvb for the same price.

What's up with the deal on getting four solarflares? If the price is almost the same as getting the storm for 999 then I would probably go that route.
 
Go for the solarflares...lol I just wanna see them in action... the price is great right now..

uvb can be added easily with a halogen bulb(homedepot "halogena/philips"), much cheaper and the outdoor flood bulbs are waterproof and disperse it over a large area...just a thought
 
yeah the uvb in the Solarstorm seems like quite the gimmick to me.... It is only being offered on the $2000 SolarStorm, in the form of 2 X 15w T8 Fluorescents...

So you are getting 30w of uvb for $200...

I do like that they are adding the UVB bulbs though, it at least means they are watching the market and staying on top of things.

I don't think 400W's of LED per flowering tent is going to work out very well.
That would work for vegging, but is not enough light for the flowering you want.
Despite the differences in LED and HID, they have one thing in common, always flower with around 50W's of light per square foot.
4'x4' tent = 16 square feet
16 x 50W's = 800W's
I'd say that 600W's of LED is as low as you can go for a 4'x4' tent during flowering and still get decent results.

This is a new and untested company in the marketplace, so be wary, and spend your money wisely.

Checked my email, George says a 2x2 area for flowering for the solarflare. So, I'd need 4 for my 4x4 tent....

I'm thinking the solarstorm instead now...

You're running a Pro-Grow 180 and a Blackstar 180W over that 2x4 area, right?
Both of your lights are hanging right over your plants, which is good.
Each one of those two lights are 12" long and 8-ish" wide, and you're proposing to cover twice as much space with two lights that are only 9"x9" each?
Barely any of your plants would be covered, a key component to LED growing.

Well this wasn't here when I started writing my reply above, since I was looking up specs it took a little longer to compose.
I'm glad you're reconsidering for more wattage.
Still, does the manufacturer have any grow pics that they can show you before you make a purchase?
