A black female vocalist with a strong voice? Way unique. No what she was, was a singer who made a shit choice and destroyed her vocal cords within the first few weeks on the pipe.
Now, if she didn't fall off and kept singing and bettered her talents then she may have matured and became unique.

See that's what I mean. I wouldn't even put Brad Nowell in the top 20, same for Maynard. They would make my list of rock vocalists, but not music that is based around actual singing. Like George Fisher from Cannibal Corpse doesn't actually sing, but is one of the best vocalists for death metal.
Some that would make top my list of true singers:
Daryl Hall, Peabo Bryson, Steve Perry, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, the girls from En Vogue, Michael Bolton
I don't actually listen or own any music by some of those artists, but I still think they are some of the best voices. There are more, but I'm not going to get into it. There are too many good singers from the last 40 years.
