heat issues

some Ppl. do go down.. along the way ..

I mean .. they start at 24/7 fist week ..

then do maybe 20/4 for a few weeks ..

once they have a nice big plant in Veg they go 18/6

and scale that down to 12/12 doing a week up to flowering ..

I belive the point is that it schould give the plants less stess ?

dunno .. to much for me .. 20/4 and 12/12 is good enough for me ..

and about that biax bulbs or what ever ? dunno .. may I suggest you use just a littel bit of money to buy a decent light ? atlest some cheap CLF for now .. fix your heat problem and give the plant what it need .. scale up when you have the means ..

I got some free light fixtures from work (was lucky that it was out side lights so it was T5HO ;) was broken .. as our electrician said .. the plastick around em :D)

so only thing I had to do was to buy 6 new tubes .. found em online 40$ in total ..
2x2700K and 4x6500K each with 4650 Lumen I belive (5 foot tubes)

think creativ .. and get some kind of outtake please ..

100w hps is good for a small grow i would think a 40cmx40cm foot print 3-4" from top of the plant should be good in a shade

i would think you could yeild 1-2oz's from that light
but i would not grow more than 4 plants under that light
and flower at 6" and if the strain takes well to topping i would top them
the light penetration is not going to be good (4-6")

i have not use a 100w hps but i think this is how the grow should go

somebody that has used a 100w hps should be able to give you more help

Yea, it causes less stress to my plant if you slowly increase the dark hours. I don't think it's a noticeable level of stress personally though.

I wonder how much heat it puts out compared to say...200w of CFLs. I have around 13k lumens with that, but if a 100w gives 10k and a comparable amount of heat that works too.

hmmm... 100W HPS ..

wouldnt bother .. realy .. no offend .. but then I much MUCH rather got T5 or CLF about the same penetration and lot less heat I belive ?
and less eletricity use maybe ? no expert .. just like my T5 and if heat is a problem with even a small 100W HPS I wouldnt use a sec. to think about it ..

but agin .. its just me .. and its easy to say ... it all cost money and we have to do with the stuff we have .. but then you atlest need some kind of ventilation to fix the heat problem ..

as I see it .. you realy cant do this half .. you do need good light and you do need some air/ventilation/filter aso.

if you dont want to go big scale and get a tent/build a room ..

then your have only 1 option as I see it ..build a stelt/PC grow and keep it small and simple .. but you still need some things to make it work .. might just be a bit cheaper and more easy ..

3th option is of course out door .. but I guess that was`t a option ?

just my 2€

I lied about HPS.looked at the box,its 150w.They did have 100w,75w & i think there was a 60w as well.Phillips.Got it at home depot.I checked out manufacturer for my bulbs. They dont call them biax, phototron does.they're cfl and gelco claims they're long lasting/low heat.If I took,say,2 of six out of the gizmo & maybe spun plants every so often, would it be a help or hinderance?

I grow using CFLs and will probably move onto growing with LEDs. HIDs give more lumens per watt so they're actually more efficient that CFLs. I imagine heat is a issue, but this one guy, brettsog, is growing in his closet with a 250w and his temps are 30c. Too hot, I know, but knock it down to 150w give it some proper ventilation(that he lacks for his 250w) and you get almost twice the lumen output of 150w in CFLs. All this "they generate too much heat" is probably people thinking about the 400,600 and 1000w HIDs. I'm just curious about finding that sweet spot for a grow of 3-4 plants.

i still think hps would give off more heat
but it would be close

if i had a heat problem and have a plant that takes well to topping and lst and have the space
you could bye some t5 tubes top and lst or scrog them
under 2 of these with the red bulb and should increase your yeild and use less electric
and heat

but reducing heat and increasing yeild is hard
led might be a another option

try it that worse that could happen is needing to put them back in

I looked at the t5 on Jason79's last post.anybody know how many dollars equals 66 pounds;-).kidding.I didn't know that some plants didn't take to topping.I'm gonna have to top them whether they like it or not.

24/0 or 18/6 is purely up to u.. some claim it helps havin the 6 hr dark period n some say its better to run 24 hrs a day.. personal choice tho. I run 24/0 with fluros n a few cfls partially bc elec outlets are NOT plentiful in my basement and a timer usually blocks an outlet plus uses one and I got lights n air pumps plugged in everywhere..

P.s. I love how its just refered to as "my gizmo". It looks like a big ass porch light with a plant in it lol

I checked out Blackstar's website and they said their 90w LED is equal to a 350w HID. Only like $180.

are they the Red 2700k 150w light cfl with shade

in your set up i would spin the plants
the grow area max 2ft x 2ft and spin the plant 1/4 turn a day
and you could pull 1-2 oz's
if you use 4 plants in 2ltrs pot
and try to get 1/2 oz off each plant
i would still top them and pull the sides down and keep the light 3-4" from top of plant

sounds about right .. I would go with auto seeds then .. mostly need Red and yellow/warm light (3000Kelvin or less) and is small .. two of them and a lot of TLC and I have seen Ppl. take 1-2 OZ per plant with only 1-2 CLF (125W-300W)

btw
if it is a 150W CLF (warm/yellow light 2000-3000K) I would suggest you to get a blue/could white/6500K one aswell and mix it up a bit .. would also be able to cover more plant ..

but yea .. some pictures in generel would help/make it more easy/funn :)
