Advanced Apache * Coco & LED

Down with one and up with another. As my current grow is completely harvest and in the drying and curing phases, I decided to to start up a new thread as the next round is in it's infancy. For those who haven't checked out my journals in the past, I've been growing strictly under LEDs and in Coco. I've always been a fan of growing in coco so that was the first and only medium I tried when I bought my first led panel a couple years ago, and I've found the combo of leds and coco to be quite successful. I'm still tweaking my nutrient solutions here and there though.

This round, I called it Advanced Apache because those are the two lights I'll be running side by side. Last time I did an Advanced LED 200w Diamond Series with a Kessil H350 (both great lights). A few weeks ago I purchased an Apache Tech AT120WR (3:2) so this time I'm swapping out the H350 for the apache. For the first couple weeks it will be the diamond and the apache vegging 6 clones. By the time they are ready to flip, I should have my new diamond xml that I will swap out the 200w diamond for. At that point I will put up a divider between the two lights because I am interested in seeing how these two lights perform by themselves and space is limited. You can call it a comparison if you want, but unfortunately, there is an uneven number of strains so a true comparison will be limited in nature.

The strains this round are (3) Ken's Kush, (2) Strawberry Cough, and (1) Atomic Northern Lights.

Ken's Kush
  • Classification: Sativa & Indica (S dominant)
  • Parents: Original GDP x OG Kush x Sour Diesel
  • Flowering Time: 8-9 weeks
  • Yield: Medium-Heavy
  • Medical Uses: Multiple Sclerosis, back pain, headaches, anxiety, asthma, insomnia, appetite stimulation
  • Breeder: Granddaddy Purp

Strawberry Cough
  • Classification: Sativa & Indica (S dominant)
  • Parents: ???? Only thing I found was strawberry fields x haze but from an unconfirmed source
  • Flowering Time: 8-9 weeks
  • Yield: Medium-Heavy
  • Medical Uses: Depression, relaxation, headaches, pain relief, glaucoma, nausea, anorexia
  • Breeder: unknown but Dutch Passion seems to pop up a lot when searching

Atomic Northern Lights
  • Classification: Mostly Indica
  • Parents: Northern Lights backcross
  • Flowering Time: 7-8.5 weeks
  • Yield: Medium-Heavy
  • Medical Uses: Anxiety, mood enhancer, fatigue, depression, pain relief
  • Breeder: Dr. Atomic

What I will do before flipping to 12/12 is to make sure I have one of the Ken's Kush and one of the Strawberry Coughs on each side so they will be the plants used to compare the lights. Everything else will be identical in terms of nutrients and amount of love they receive.

Nutrient wise, I'm still rocking CANNA for my primary line up and also supplementing with a couple new guys.

For Veg:
CANNA Coco A & B
CANNA Rhizotonic
CANNA Cannazym
Techinflora MagiCal
Great White Mycorrhizea
Superthrive
Botanicare Silica Blast
House & Garden Magic Green Foliar Spray (every 5-10 days)

For Bloom:
Same as Veg but no Magic Green Foliar Spray
CANNA Boost (Foliar until first signs of flowers)
PK 13/14 (weeks 4-5)
Either Overdrive or M.O.A.B. weeks (6-7)

Lighting is an interesting subject in this journal because of the differences in the lights I will be using.
  • 200w diamond series: actual draw 187w full spectrum, 105w in veg mode, and 87w in red only. Total # of Leds = 200. 3w single chips R/G/B design. 90degree angle w/ optical lenses.
  • AT120WR (3:2): actual draw 171w. Total # of Leds = 120. 1w single chips full spectrum white leds with red at a 3:2 ratio. 14degree angle w/ optical lenses.
  • Diamond XML: unknown for time being. I'll update this when I get my hands on the unit. I do know that they have (4) 10w 2700k white leds.

The first couple weeks will be sort of slow as the clones were just transplanted into 2 gallon smart pots and will recover and veg until July 1st when they'll get flipped to 12/12. Let me know if you have any questions. Any and all comments and questions or suggestions are welcome. Updates will be once a week on Sundays. I guess that's all for now. Please keep the hating to a minimum and please enjoy the show.

It looks like the Apache is the brighter of the 2 LED lights displayed, despite using less watts.
I've always been interested in seeing what they could do with some cannabis plants.
Good luck.

Ah, first to the show! Enjoy that seat bro, I have a feeling this round is going to be interesting! I'm super stoked to get this show on the road. Had a minor setback with the clones but it looks like things are back on track. Thanks for joining in on the fun!

What up Bad Karma! Thanks for stopping in and checking out the new round. Yes, the apache is definitely the brighter of the two, like you said despite using less watts. I'm not sure if it just looks that way because it's white light or if it actually is putting out more lumens and PAR. Would love to have some of those fancy meters...hmmmm...maybe a new purchase in the future for puff?...ha...not anytime soon but a guy can dream, can't he? I've heard second and third hand reports on how the apaches have faired against our favorite plant here and the feedback has been overwhelming positive...we shall see...keeping my fingers crossed I picked a winner.

Yo iLovePlants! Glad to have you back for this round, really appreciate you joining in last round so I look forward to your comments this time around too! Expensive is definitely an appropriate adjective for the apache, let's hope "amazing" fits the bill too...we'll start seeing it in action more here in a couple weeks.

So if you've been following my other journal, you would have seen how bad these clones looked the day after I transplanted them. They were basically wilted over, limp, draggin their knuckles on the floor. Thankfully, they've recovered and are back on track. They definitely got shocked and for that, I will probably need to veg for a while longer. I'm just hoping that stress didn't kill whatever their potency potential was...who knows, perhaps they will be stronger for having gone through it? There seems to be some truth in that, but shit, they looked bad, haha! Anyway, I won't go into the details of what I think the issue was, it could have been many things...too intense light, not enough humidity, magic green not diluted enough or old magic green bottle, etc. etc. not enough time to figure out exactly the issue but I've cut out the apache light in veg, stopped the magic green, and fed with new mixture of feed and things are looking much, much better.

Also, started some seeds as a backup plan. Only one has popped so far. It's a Kannabia Smile feminized. I've grown other Kannabia seeds before in the past (power skunk and (auto) white domina) and really liked their genetics so hopefully it's a winner too.

I guess that's all for now. Update again next Sunday. We'll see how they look before deciding if I will flip on 7/1 as originally planned or if they will need another week or two.

Holy shit, those are the same two clones? Nice recovery. You know I'm subbed for the show. I'd like to see what those Apaches can do.

Yup, they're the same ones. The new growth is looking healthy...The bottom branches and leaves are still a little damaged but they will likely get trimmed off anyway. I think we all are wanting to see how the apache performs...soon enough we'll have our answers. Thanks for subbing up for the journey, glad to have you aboard!

Subbed for this grow, last grow jounal was top notch right on man.

The first post mentioned M O A B is used during the 6-7 weeks of flowering, please shed some light on this additive.

Peace to all and happy growing.

Yo, Canna! I appreciate the compliment on the last journal. Hopefully this one will be just as good too. So, I've never used M.O.A.B., but from what I've read it's pretty similar to AN Overdrive, late bloom booster. Haven't checked the labels, but I imagine high in P/K. Basically adds new growth when they think they are just about done. With the OD, I could actually tell where new growth occurs. It's pretty cool, they really swell up and pack on the weight during those final weeks without the extra boosts, but with them, damn I was impressed. Hope that helps some. I'm pretty sure I'm going to roll with MOAB this time over Overdrive based on price (i got free OD samples last time). We'll see, I'm hitting up the hydro shop this weekend for some new ratchets for my lights and a few flowering supplies.

**Update this weekend on the girls** (they're looking great and I now have some sour d in the mix)
P.S. One of my seeds has been put in the party cup for the competition - Pink OG.

Quick update out of boredom. Everything is looking good. Girls recovered quite nicely. Got some new sour diesel clones but they look like they have some issues...any ideas what the deal is? I transplanted them from cups to 1g jugs but those leaves were already showing signs when I got them. Ken's Kush is looking the best out of all the strains so far, but the atomic northern lights one isn't too shabby either (forgot to take a pic of it, next update). Starting to acclimate the girls to the apache. Think they will go to 12/12 in a couple days. Smile :-) popped up too. Still waiting on the rest to break through although some weren't germed when I put them in the coco. More concise update on Sunday.

Sour Diesel - Any help on those leaves would be greatly appreciated.

Roots popping out the sides of the smart pots. Gotta love the Rhizo + Great White combo.

And Smile :-) I'm going to try to get this as big as possible before flipping. I don't think I can enter it in the party cup competition since it's been a couple days on 18/6 already.

That's all now, update again this weekend before flip. Peace.

great update puff........the leaves on the SD are still remnants of the transplant shock IMO(if spreading/or new growth is affected cut out all misting and FF)........And don't start cheating with the party cup already:)...........go apache!

I'm still amazed at how well those girls are doing after how bad they looked after the x-plant.

^^^I'm gonna preface all my future comments with that sentence. lol

Anyway. What are you using as far as nutes go? Do you supplement any Cal-Mag?
It looks like the beginnings of a mag or calcium deficiency?
Do the leaves feel dry and/or brittle?

Thanks psua! yeah those SD leaves are what's bugging me. It hasn't spread and new growth isn't showing signs so it must have been something with the medium before I transplanted. Haha, no party cup cheating! just wish I had popped that Smile seed a few days later so it could be entered. Got my update for the competition later on today too.

That's hilarious, I can't believe they made it either. Nutrients I'm using are canna a&b at 4ml/g, rhizotonic just dropped down from 15ml/g to 8ml/g and today's feeding down to 4ml/g. 6ml of cannazym. 1 ml of superthrive. A teaspoon of great white. 2ml silica blast. 4ml magical (calmag) but will go up to 5 or 6 today. Leaves feel fine for the most part. Going to do some slight trimming today to take off some of the old lower growth on a few of them.

with your coco do you add ay lime or anything to it? for more nutrients and ph balance?
nope, don't add lime but see the comment above this one for what I am currently adding and see the first post of the thread for the entire nutrient line-up. PH balance is just GH up and down and I still use the ph calibration solution in the vile method. Get it a nice orangish-yellow color between 5.2-6.2 ideally around 5.8 if you are using a meter. glad to have you in on this, hope you stick around.

Last day of veg. Flowering starts tomorrow. Just a side note that I thought was interesting...the Smile seedling is directly under the diamond but when I turned on the apache i found it leaning toward the white light, so i turned off the diamond and left on just the apache for a few days and now it's standing straight up despite being off to the side quite a bit from the panel. Next update the girls will be rearranged and hopefully under a new light.

Yo puff, thanks for the info on the overdrive and MOAB, sounds like it does the exact same job as shooting powder, only downside with shooting powder its easy to burn the shit outa your plants if your not careful with dosage.

Amazed on how the girls have bounced back, growth is spot on man, the rhizo really helps with stressed plants when used in high doses for a couple of waterings i've noticed when trying to revive a stressed mother etc.

Stay safe, happy growing and peace to all.
