ive cut 2 clones from two of my female plants about 6 in long , dipped them in rootboost rooting powder, them left them in a cup with some water in it,

am i doing everything right?

also i have a 20 watt florescent, does anyone think that this would be better for cloning? if so how would i go about it?, such as height from plants and anything i would need to do.

You need to find some kind of clear dome to put over them to increase humidity, they are taking in water through their leaves since there are no roots. Always make sure you are dipping a node, if you don't chances are they wont root. Make sure you check them for water everyday. also, you went backwards with dipping them in rooter and then putting them in water. You should be popping your cuttings into sterile water as soon as you cut them, then dipping them in rooter and putting them in the medium.

i did also dip them in water before, but what do you mean dipping a node?

a node is the area where you can tell new growth/ branches are going to grow. in the future you might not want to dip them in water again after you dip it in the rooting hormone

( don't know who posted this photo on Grasscity, but props to em)

i would get an old 2litterbottle and cut the bottom so you can put it over your new clone. that will help keep the humidity up. also you should put your clone in dirt or rockwool while trying to root.. they dont seem to take well just in a cup of water..

when cloning in bubble, dwc, or aero, or a cup of water a dome is not needed at all. i have 20-50 clones every three weeks and never used a dome and never lost one. all different strains and all root in 7-11 days. just change the water every day to keep it fresh.

yeah i had seen some one on here make a thread about rooting clones in a cup of water , but @xtract44 i meant is it necisary to cut like on the node to get roots to grow out of the clone? or will they grow out of the stem the way i did it.

I always cut below the node and make sure it gets that rooting hormone. when i first started i would just... cut at a 45 degree angle in the inter-nodal area.. and dipped that area...never worked out to well lol. I did not realize you wanted to leave them in a cup of water. I have actually had some luck with this without using rooting hormone, although it takes MUCH longer. ( was an experiment awhile back just wanted to throw that in there)

thant xtract44 , so it will still root on the internode?

You could, i dont know how it would affect the growth because it has already been dipped once. I drew a yellow line where i usually make the cut. trim the new growth off for the most part and dip the node.

might take you a week or two to start seeing the roots. but I'd just make sure ur humidity is good try puttin clear plastic cups from dollar store over your plant to help keep the moisture in the air.
