So the fem seeds have more of a chance to turn hermie, than the regular seeds? Is this just with this specific breeder/strain or a general fact with all strains? All I have ever done was cuttings/clones. Was thinking about trying from seed, is there a benefit of growing from seed rather than just getting clones??
ok, you've got a few questions here, lol.. i'll try and answer each one...
as for fem's.. i've grown a few fems from many different breeders, including cali connection, and i've never had one plant go hermie on me, fem or regular.. but saying that, there is a proper way to make fem's and there is a way to make them where getting hermie prone plants is more common..
the correct way is to use a chemical like collidial silver to turn an otherwise healthy female hermie.. the chemical will make a female throw a few male flowers on a plant that is normally a happy female.. breeders will then take the pollen collected from the female plant, and use it on another healthy happy female plant.. the result is fem'ed seeds...
some breeders will use the pollen on the plant that they force hermied, or they won't use any chemicals to force a plant to hermie, but instead will use a natural hermie to create fem'ed seeds.. this is where the trouble begins as hermies usually produce hermie offspring, unless of course it's not a natural hermie and one that only turned hermie as the result of the introduction of chemicals like collodial silver ..
it's been said that some of the fem's that swerve made weren't the best of fem's to put it politely.. i even think swerve has come on here and said that he had the formula of the collodial silver a bit mixed up, and as a result, some of his fem gear is more suceptible to being hermie prone..
imo and experience, fem'ed seeds are no more prone to hermie then regular seeds are, so long as the breeder who makes them used the correct methods and didn't breed with some hermie plant to begin with.. i know, it all gets a big confusing to say the least, but i'll never grow fem's from certain breeders, like greenhouse and barney's farm to name but two.. these co's seem to have enough issues with hermie regular genetics, not to mention their fem's, so i steer clear..
as far as clones vs seeds.. here goes.. clones are nice because usually someone already did the hard work of going through a few packs of beans and selecting the best plant of the bunch, which they usually will then clone and dump the rest of them.. so whatever they were looking for will always be around in that clone.. be it smell, potency, color, etc, etc.. most of the time they pick what also happens to be what everyone else is looking for in the same strain, but not always.. they could have been more concerned about say flavor and you are looking for the most potent out of the bunch..
also, when dealing with clones, it seems that often times they get mislabeled or passed off as something that they are not, and unless you know for sure where they came from, you may never really know exactly what you got.. i hear a lot of this in say cali where clones are pretty popular..
also, clones and the passing there off is a great way to introduce bugs into a grow.. i hear tons of this as well.. someone has an infected plant, knowingly or not, they take clones and sell / give them to others, and bammo, now you got what they had... clones, the gift that keeps on giving, lol..
seeds.. seem to be more hardy and pest resistant imo.. the downside is you may have to go through a few packs to find that one really bomb plant that you're looking for.. some breeders are obviously better about stability, and therefore most of their plants should all look and act the same for the most part.. other breeders, it's a crap shot.. sometimes you may have to go through a good few packs before finding what you're looking for.. complete horseshit, but it is what it is..
