space race real

the race to space is real to me....................................................................................................................................... but there always occures a thought that maybe it isnt. the land on mars is fake or the space station is some crock a shit designed to make us think we did it. but what do you think?

I have personally seen the space station as a small bright dash through strong binos. (I use heavens-above.com for sighting info ... you would probably enjoy that site a lot!) I also think we did indeed put the hardware onto the red dust.

But space race? We'd need a willing, credible competitor. And a reason to compete. Once China starts landing stuff on the moon in prep for a crewed lander ... we might have something. But sadly, alas ... imo the real limiting factor is rockets. it's the best propulsive technology we have, and it's awfully expensive. cn

And terribly inefficient and heavy. Though I just recently heard a young girl from Egypt has developed a theory of very rapid propulsion using the casimir affect on a large magnitude. Kinks still would need to be worked out, but it was a good enough theory for the scientific communities to notice.

Tony Daniel in his future-dystopia novels ("Metaplanetary" and "Superluminal") described ships that used Casimir-effect propulsuion. Imo it's possible but impractical, like propelling a car with (electrostatic) ionic point discharge. cn

Thats right. The device would need to be MASSIVE to produce enough thrust. However it would be a fuel less propulsion device, which is pretty cool in itself.

Shouldn't we use the money we spent on space exploration to better humanity?
You would be surprised to find out how beneficial going to space and learning is beneficial for human kind. Besides if your really tripping about the sixteenth of a penny out of each dollar that goes to them, then we really do have a problem.

A laser is currently more efficient. There's that bothersome scalability problem though.
Still, imagine having a laser drive good for a sustained G pushing a ship of interstellar scale. Whatever system you enter, you're pretty much the boss of it. I'm quite behemped. cn

I'm not tripping, I'm just aware that we spend billions of dollars to take cute pictures of mars..

That money can save millions of lives and better humanity.

Surprise me. What's beneficial about space exploration. Is it more important than helping out humanity in a huge way? I'm not saying there's no benefits to space exploration btw.

If we find out Mars had life, the probability of alien life is suddenly much higher. It might then be seen to be more obviously in our interest to get serious about spacefaring tech, now that we've rung the dinner bell for 100-plus light years in every direction. cn

Will the aliens then help humanity?

EDIT: BTW, I like your dinner bell metaphor.

Like a fox in a henhouse! That's why we gotta smarten up. We radiate like rave lighting across the radio spectrum. That might be an evolutionary opportunity for ... something, out there. My vision of aliens who would bother to notice us is not friendly. cn

Of course they wouldn't bother with us.. And if they did, I fear their intents.
But enough alien talk, that's just a possibility.

With the billions of dollars spent on taking pretty pictures of mars, we could have built many new schools that children need. So many better things we could have done with that money IMO..

Awesome picture.. Is it worth billions of dollars? I don't think so.

Fortunately a big part of its mission is soil chemistry. That'll help us figure out if Mars had life. cn

That's true.. I'm just trying to belittle their achievment. Dammit neer, let me do it!!

Still, I don't believe that was the best way to spend the money. I guess this is just a thing of opinions.

they dont give jack shit of what they should to nasa an space exploration. i thought it was half a penny, but it seems its gone down to a 16th of a penny per 1 tax dollar. its not just pretty pictures of mars either. findin out if they have life on mars would lend more credit to the theory that an asteroid hit mars an sent rocks flyin to earth that started life on earth. also all of the shit nasa has discovered an made has advanced out technology a shit load as of today. its like storin seeds for the future to plant when we go to space an learn more shit about the universe an how the make more complex machines to go out there. that helps us have those same things down here.

if we never saw the need for satellites when they were makin them we wouldnt have half of the shit we take for granted today. damn near everythin on your
phone is comin from the gps off them. this might be me talkin out my ass but they proved that movin at fast speeds can actually slow time down. they need to invest more money in science in general so that we can advance more as a civilization. there was a bad ass presentation that neil tyson had about why it important. ill look for it tomorrow an post it. if we dont discover we lose one of the basic things that drive us as a race.

sad to say i dont think we're the leader anymore in science at least. euro
pe is goin ham with the LHC.

an as i said before once we fuck this planet up ppl would be wishin we spent more time in space exploration. this isnt the vid i was talkin bout but a good one to answer your questions for now none the less

even if there are no aliens we can probally find some gold, silver or different possably better fuels and precious metals that will all pay for our expence for going to mars and possibly use mars to go even further to other planets to take resources from the possabilties are endless
