Cloning OG kush with ez Cloner 60, should I be worried? Day 5

I know there are a lot of threads about this... I've read that OG kush can take a little longer to root, to keep the pH between 5.5-6.3, room temp 70-75F, etc. But I'm on day 5, and while some of my clones look good - quite a few of them have tips that are browning/yellowing, and generally not looking very good.

Here are some pics
2012-10-03 20.59.44.jpg2012-10-03 20.59.52.jpg2012-10-03 21.00.06.jpg

I bought one of those fancy 1 minute on/4 minutes off timers for $80 at my local hydro store, used that for a few days but then realized the water temps were in the 68-75 area and I could leave the machine on without worrying about it (I plan on returning the timer).

I know I should've cut the clones during the veg stage, and it's better during the veg stage...but I'm hoping this will still work.

I also looked under to see the roots, and some of them look good but quite a few look brown/black, should I be clipping and re-rooting the brown/black roots? Or should I just let them play out? Also, should I try putting a dome over the whole system (to introduce more humidity?)

Any input is appreciated, THANKS!!!

og kush is hard to root. 74-75 is what i run my water at. if u root 40 out of 60 call that 100 percent sucess rate.
i take mine off at 21 days. totally different ball game cloning og kush.

So should I be concerned about the dried, cracked, brown leaves? Or should I give them all 21 days regardless?
were those cuts plush when u took them? are u using a water bottle to cool the rez?
do u have a mother plant of og kush, cuz u need to keep that girl as healthy as u can.
if u have no other cuts let them go, and take off accordinly as there root develope.

I have some frozen bottles in the freezer, but I haven't been using them because the water is already cold... Should I be making the water ice cold? It's currently around 70F (the water), and the room itself is 75F right now.

Yes, the cuts were looking great when I took them, they have browned at the tips and I have cut a few off... Don't have a mother plant unfortunately, currently flowering 12 other plants...they're looking great but want to keep growing this og kush strain!

make your moms the most important thing u do. fuck work, wine tasting with the girl friend and all her friends, fuck all that shit. this is an og kush world and your almost smack dab in the middle of it. get excited friend.

I have more experience with this than most. I use 120 site EZ cloners and a lot of our genetics are OG based. We have 97-99% success rate with all of our strains. Sometimes our SAC#3 OG Kush acts up and doesn't like to root, but most of the other OG cuts root within 7 days. I see a few problems here; one they're are from a flowering mother that looks to be about ten to fourteen days into flowering. You are going to have to get it to want to produce roots vs producing pistils, and coming off a flowering schedule like they have it just complicates things. Two it looks like some of those cuttings are branches with lots of stem to leaf ratio. An idea clone is cut from the top of a plant with 3 or 4 nodes that you can prune up to create a 6-8" cutting that has two or three fan leaves and then little new growth out the top. It's tough to judge how the rooting is going without seeing what's going on inside the cloner. If the ends of the cuttings have began to swell and or have little white dots or nubs forming you're headed in the right direction. If they are turning a brownish color and are beggining to hollow out, it's as good as dead unless you re cut the stem an inch or so above the browning part of the stem and even then your success rate will be minimal. Are you spraying your cuttings? If so don't. What are you using in the mix? clonex? I run our cloners 24/7 with no problems, I wouldn't put them on a timer regardless of the schedule. Anyways hope this helps you in one way or another...

Hi WCC, you're right, about 2 weeks into flowering - and quite a few are browning at the root. I have a few that are white at the root and may still be OK, but thanks for the advice. Going to see if I can save these!!!

Using clonex, along with a little ph Down/Up (for some reason, using the amount of clonex listed on the bottle didn't quite bring the pH down to the 5.8-6.3 range, so I used a little pH down to fix that). Didn't spray the cuttings, but I used the rooting gel that came with the ez Cloner. I also split down the middle and scraped the bottom of the clone a little - is that something you recommend doing with the ez Cloner?

picture 1 is a close up of our Platinum Purple OG Kush roots on the tenth day when we empty our cloners for that rotation. What ever doesn't root in those ten days get tossed.

Picture 2 is a ChemValleyKush clone that was also pulled after ten days, but was very well rooted and ready for transplant at seven days.

Picture 3 is of some clones in cups ready to go on their 10th day since being cut. These are P.P. OG Kush and I want to say SFV OG Kush, but not certain.

I have other pictures of them in veg and other pics of the nursery and then them in flower and harvested bud shots too... The SAC #3 is a cut of OG Kush brought to us from Santa Barbara from a now defunk disp. It's also called Santa Barbara Purple OG Kush and is quite sought after. The SAC stands for Soul Assasin Crew with Cypress Hill and all that grang. They have three cuts of OG Kush they've named SAC cuts 1,2,3. SAC#3 is a low yielder, smells and tastes like grapes, matures almost grey in color and produces more trichs than any other OG cut that I've ever seen. Matthew Riot of Riot seeds uses this cut to breed alot of his strains such as SAC98 (pre 98 BubbaxSAC#3) which I also have.

Let me know if you would like more info... The Purple Platinum OG Kush is the real deal too, and is something to write home about!

Looking at those pics again it brings me to another point. Those clones are ready to rock and fucking roll right out of the cloner. They are tall, they are healthy, they are everything you want in a rooted clone! Once transplanted into the cups they spend another two weeks (in my garden) in those cups before being transplanted into their final resting spot. So You can imagine how far along my plants are in veg once they hit flowering, and I'm not talking about days or weeks I'm talking about how far along the plant is in growth. My veg cycle is pretty intense to say the least.

Heres the low down on the OG cuts that we have had, the ones we have, and the ones we are working on or working on getting...

Purple Platinum OG Kush (Platinum from Tacoma Wa and our SAC#3) currently have
SAC#3 OG Kush (non grape pheno) currently have
ChemValleyKush (Cali Connections) uses a Chem cut and his SFVOG currently have
Pre 98 Bubba Kush currently have
SAC98 (SAC#3 and pre98 Bubba) currently have
SFVOG Kush (Cali Connections) currently have
Fire OG (clone only from the SFV) currently have
Earth OG (no longer have)
Larry OG no longer have
Tahoe OG no loner have
Black Mango Kush (in the works)
Rare Dankness Scotts OG (hopefully sometime in the future)
Kandy Kush (Trainwreck x OG Kush) currently have to use but not in our garden
BubbaWreck (BubbaKush x Trainwreck) currently have
Platinum OG Kush(from Tacoma Wa) currently have

I know these are a lot of OG crosses but that's what our market in this area seems to demand. It's hard to say what's the true OG Kush as I would have to most likely say SFVOG Kush from Cali Connections is a good description of a true OG cut from the mid 90's. I have a lot of Chem crosses too, but not as many as the OG side of things.

Very impressive, WCC! Any other tips you have regarding cloning OGs? I might just lose this crop, and if I do I'll just have to buy new ones...hopefully I can get the next batch right if that's the case.

OGKUSHHHH, thanks for the complitments man! It took us a long time to get to where we are now, so when people notice the little things other than our meds it makes me smile. I would say that you may loose this entire batch, but I think if you can narrow your cuttings down to the best lets say 20. Cut them down to where any brown or colored stems are removed and you are working with good fresh solid stem. Cut it at a 45 and then lightly shave the outer most layer of tissue off. Don't shave so deep that you get down to white or even close. You are litterally only taking the most minute layer off, and be sure to keep that clean! I then place the cuttings in a bowl of of PH'd water to 6.0 with a slight charge or Sensi bloom A&B (1/10th) reccomendations for full bloom and a half strength clonex mix. They sit in that solution for 15 minutes or so before I place them in their plugs and back into the cloner. I run our cloners at 68-70 and add additional oxygen via pumps and stones. I change out the solution in the cloners every ten days when I pull all of the clones. My mix consists of 1/5th strength Sensi A&B and full strength clonex liquid when the cuttings are placed into their clones for the first time. Sometimes I'll add another half strength dose of Clonex around day 6 or 7 if things are as developed as I'd like. This is what works for me, and I've also had good success using this method with rockwool blocks, but the aero cloners are where it's at for my situation.

Back in the early 2000's Jorge Cervantes made his grow bible and also his grow DVD's and a lot of his information was at that time dated. There's no need to cut down your fan leaves to minimize surface area, it's better to eliminate all but 2 or 3 main fan leaves and cut everything into a good looking clone that will be a great contendor in your garden. I see a lot of growers with five or six big fan leaves sticking off their clones and them all cut down at the tips. Most often the leaves burn, turn to crisp, and eventually curl up and die. In the picture above you can see how many nodes and leaves that second clone has, and it didn't start out that way, they grow that much while in the cloners themselves and again look at the growth in the cups at day 10. Those have def filled back in from the skeletons they started out like. Again this is what has worked for me and my operation. I can't guarantee results like this, but I can't imagine them verying much. Make sure to keep a good eye on how everything looks and smells. You can learn a lot from the smell of your cloner beleive it or not! Sounds fucking sick and maybe it is, but it works for me...

Awesome man, thanks for the info. If I was in Oregon I'd totally hit you up for some clones!

Do you recommend lights on 24/7, or 18/6? I'm running 24/7, but I know some people talk about turning the lights off for 6 hours... Also, any particular airstones/pumps you recommend?

Og is hard as hell to root unless you doing a whole branch in early veg,i got about 100 Og seeds feminized and i don't see cloning in my future.
