Freeing Clone From Humidity Dome & Opinions

OK, it has been 48 hours since cloning. Placed 49 clones into Root Riot tray. First time cloner, so NO laughing please. : here's pics.

Root Riot plugs moist, not damp. Dome dripping w/ moisture. Heat mat w/ temperature control.

WHEN MIGHT I REMOVE THE DOME?

HOW DOES ONE CHECK FOR ROOTS? PULL THE PLUG FROM THE TRAY TO INSPECT?

You'll need to keep the dome on them until they've rooted usually 7 to 10 days, the leafs will use the moisture in the air inside to drink as they root. A sign that roots are starting to grow is yellowing of the leafs. just pop the plug out to check for roots or don't the root riots have a hole in the bottom? If they do just wait until u can see the roots there. Hope this helps u a bit mate. Peace CG

Dome in place for 7-10 days: check.

Look for roots at individual holes in bottom or Root Riot: check.

I've read various threads that suggest taking the dome off after 2-3 days and then just misting. Jorge recommends reducing humidity to about 80% after 2-3 days, and to me that means opening the vents on the dome lid.

Opening the vents gradually is basically wht I do only I have no vents in my dome ( home made ) so I just raise the dome a little at a time by putting objects under the dome to raise ti, in other words I gradually wein them to aclamate them to open air.

Just curious...but why did you cut the head axial on all of these? I've never seen this in the cloning practice . Thanks for any explanation!

Thought about that....I mist the lower tray to ensure there's just a hint of water covering it. Tnx.

It's fine to just leave it on until they root out. You will have to pop them out of the cell tray to check. I prefer to skip the tray completely. I dont like the cubes so close to the bottom heat and water. I just put a half inch of water in the bottom of the flat to keep humidity up and stabilize temps and then use a raised tray above that and just set rapid rooter cubes with clones upside down on it. It's nice because you can see the roots without messing with the plug and the cubes dont get waterlogged or such direct heat from the mat.

That's quite the problem...they're all fairly limp at 2 1/2 days post clone.

Cubes are moist. Heat mat keeping roots about 80F or so. Misting every 12 hours. Hoping they make it, yet I'm not too confident...they're still limp.

high humidity and high temperatures = the perfect environment for mold. Keep a close eye on them. I don't like domes and heat pads myself for that very reason, but it works great for some people. See how it goes but just keep an eye out for mold. If you see any white powder anywhere, take off the dome, turn off the heating pad, and just mist them 3x a day.

Right, thanks for that bit of advice.

Checking them at least 2-3X per day.

If I fuck these up, I've still got three, huge healthy mothers in the main grow room that I can get more clones from.

this is a great post... t his is exactly what i used to do, i think that indirect humidity is much better than having them waterlogged id dip them in water maybe 1 or 2x a week though too, i think the key to cloning is high humidity, and wet/dry/wet/dry/wet/dry but not too dry.. .and not tooo wet.... lol

i need some help i just cut clones off my jack the ripper mother and now new groeth is dieing off leaves are turning yellow with black spots what should i do to bring my mother back to good health

CLONES SHOWING SOME NEW GROWTH:

Had to cull about 10-12 due to mainly to poor cutting and trimming technique.

My second attempt HERE produced better clones that I didn't chop the terminal end off.

Hope the new growth indicates they're rooting OK. I'll begin opening vents once they're 7 days old.

Thanks for the input.

Reason I started the thread; found lots of opinions about when to remove. Some say amount of time in terms of days, others like to see a certain amount of new growth, and others go from full dome to vented dome to no dome.

Bottom line is what seems to work for the individual grower.

Here we are, seven days post clone. Only lost about 8-10 out of the original 49. Getting my first visible roots ! !
