shampoos and conditioners have chemical compounds to them, that need to be used with your own hair type.

if using wrong shampoo you can do more damage to your scalp and to your hair, breakage, knotting, dry skin, ect ect list goes on and on

I am a firm believer that you either have good hair or not at birth..high priced shampoo n conditioner will not change genetics..fortunately I have good hair.

well i wont stop you from believing that and it is partly true, such with genetics with balding ect, but if you keep something in good condition, it will last long and become healthier ect

now as for the argument over good shampoo "high priced" or cheap stuff

the reason cheap is cheap is because its watered down so much, therefore you need to use more, therefore you go through MORE shampoo (less of course if you have short hair obviously) but in the end you end up paying more per year on cheap stuff because you need to buy more of it , as for good shampoo you may pay more at the till but at the end of the year with my stuff at least when i calculated it it came up to i spent less (now of course i always buy professional products as ima hairstylist) but i used less of the good shampoo because it is less watered down therefore takes less to become soapy so it may seem like a bigger purchase but ends up saving you money because the bottles last longer

my hair is naturally soft, so i use no conditioner... usually. ;-)

BUT, when I do use conditioner, I use Tresseme for fine hair.

if it makes you feel any better i have long hippie hair and i can run a comb through it the second i shut the water off and not break a single strand. hair dye conditioner. i'm telling you. shit is like magic. also i have not dyed my hair or used styling products in over 10 years. it probably helps that i'm greasy as hell for 8 months out of the year. that "moisturizing" shampoo is for the birds. birds who like greasy hair.

to me, "cheap" shampoo is stuff like white rain and some kinds of tresseme etc. that stuff makes my hair feel weird, but everyday mid priced shampoo has worked out well for me.

treseme, is ok , the worst cheap brands are pantene, herbal essence, sauve, got2be.
Pantene bad? It's as good as or better than the pricy stuff my sisters and ex used in the 80s and 90s. But I'll take your word for it. Can you recommend a good (price-comparable locally-available) conditioner for long straight thin hair with a marked absence of anything describable as "body"? cn

if you ever try to lighten (bleach) hair that uses pantene, youll notice a jelly substance comes from the hair, into ball like shapes and the hair will take longer to actually process colors or lightener, ..pantene says they will repair your hair (which cant be dont btw) but what it actually does is coats the hair with silicone, ...

so basically it would be like if you took a sledge hammer to a floor fucked its shit up and then put wax over the floor..doesnt feel broken but it actually is, so basically pantene just coats the hair with silicone trapping all dirt oil, and debris and problems inside the wax coating...

gross eh?

treseme is okay for cheap products.

Maybe that's why I like Pantene. Nothing else I've found gives my hair combability. I'm after max slidiness, but preferably without the sledgehammer to the saltillos. cn

its just not good for your hair its covering up problems rather then solving them, it feels healthy but its not.

there are several products to really watch for, much like john fredas, "radiant BLOND" series, it says it will make your hair more blond and it does because theres peroxide in the shampoo and conditioner..which can eat away at your hair and make it feel more dry , infact they dont even have an ingredients list on their bottles only on their website...LOL , i mean its a give and take situation, you get what the companies are saying you just have to suffer through the other side of the pact.

Moi.

My hair. What's left of it. I think the greying on the side is distinguished. My nieces call it my grandpa hair. I call them little shits.
