Mini Split AC Units

alright so there's two parts to this fucking thing (the ac unit) the condenser goes inside and cools the ladies down, and the compressor is placed outside to expel the heat. OK. here is my question: Can the compressor be placed inside?

OK so here was my plan, the condenser chills the room out (condenser placed inside the grow room) then the compressor is placed in the adjacent room. And some inline fans or A inline fan exhausting the heat out of the adjacent room outside. The main point being I can't put the compressor outside..... you see?

and Why can't it just exhaust the heat created by the unit into my basement (its a big basement dude)? (its not going to be on 24/7 mind you, more than likely an hour tops, once the summer comes around)

I'm growing with CO2 by the way (i should probably have mentioned that)

It exgausts the heat by bringing new cool air in so if you could keep that room cool then i think it might work!
but know this the unit works less when its placed in a cool area = cheaper costs to run. When its got to work hard
to cool your room and itself its going to cost more to run

Those compressors pump out ALLOT of heat dude. Liek ALLOT of heat. Whatever room your going to put it in is going to get pretty damn hot, pretty damn quick. Not to mention, very moist. And while they are not SUPER loud, they are not super quiet either.

I mean, its worth a try. Don't know how big your basement really is. But FYI, it is going to run more than an hour if it is a nice energy effecient unit. They have an inverter that can modulate the amperage to the compressor. So effectively, the system only needs to work as hard as it needs to. It's not an on and off deal like a typical home air con. So what happens is that the air conditioner kind of settles on a set cooling rate needed based on your heat load and then it quietly humms away.

I fucking love my mini split. It really is some super pimp shit.

I know I have ran across it on here before but which mini split do you use? I am ready to buy one and just want to make sure its the right one. Im running 2 air cooled 600 watt hps in a 7x7x7 space. I believe a 12000btu unit will work and like the idea of a heat pump also. I have been looking at this one http://www.goductless.com/LG-Air-conditioner-Ductless-Mini-Split-Heat-Pumps-p/13841.htm ...what do you think?

I was trying the same thing... didnt have room outside. Then i looked at a unit already installed somewhere an noticed how small the outside part is. I built a fenced in area for a 48k btu dual zone unit... 3500$ later :(

I'm doing the same thing. Building a fence next weekend at another location.

Put a box over it for stealth...the has to be the dumbest thing I have read in awhile

I purchased a 2 ton split unit for a 12 x 24 room running 4 1,000 lights (naked) and the ballasts, dehumidifier and all are inside. The compressor is outside and painted and surrounded by potted ferns, etc. The only problem is the noise. Usually not much of a problem. I bought an Ideal Air Split Unit and had to have it serviced to fill up the coolant. It was shipped low. It is easy to install yourself, but now the compressor is making A LOT of noise. Ideal Air says ship it back to them, they will not preship a replacement! I personally would NOT buy Ideal Air. 2 Ton units go for well less than $1,500. Just make sure they have a brand name compressor inside. Ideal Air's warranty is a royal pain in the ass. Sunlight Supply has to improve their customer service.

That sucks. Mini splits are the bomb but they are very very very precise machines. Definitely not an easy charge like your car or traditional AC. My hvac guy had some serious gear when charging my unit. I asked him what it's like to have moisture in the lines, he said it was like sand in a motor. What happens if not enough coolant? He said that's like driving a car in summer with no radiator.

I had a friend, who I generally regard as a jackass, buy a set of gauges at harbor freight and full his system himself. His compressor lasted a week.

I dont mean to be be a asshole but there a lot errors here. The condenser is outside the house the compressor is inside the condenser.
putting the condensor inside would not add a lot of humidity. the humidity is removed by the evaporator in the house and drains from a hose usually to the out side
but can be used indoors for gardening as well. I did not find hooking them up very hard and not much equipment is needed mostly gauges and a decent vacuum pump along with a torque
wrench and a crowsfoot wrench atachment for tightening the lines. Some mechanical experience is needed. I Put my mitsubichi in no problem. The condensor could be placed inside but tuning
it with the right amount of airflow would be a bit tricky. I would want to get some kind of airflow guage and put it on the suction side take a reading and then connect my fan sucking through the condensor and turn it down with a speed controll untill the flow matched. Of course you would need a large fan and it would not work on a variable speed condenser (inverter type unit)

Coolman is absolutely right. Condenser/outside, Evaporator/inside. I am hvac by trade going on ten years now. I would not recommend putting your condenser inside unless you have mega airflow. A/C units work by evaporating high pressure refrigerant which then gets very cold absorbing heat from inside your room through the evaporator. The refrigerant then goes back to the compressor where the refrigerant gets compressed and expells that heat through the condenser. Now not only do you have the heat from your room to get rid of but you also have the mechanical heat created by the compressor and fan to vent. All in all If you absolutely cannot put your condenser outside then it will probably be cheaper and more efficient to put a window unit in venting into a room which is extremely well vented. Still not the best but more manageable than trying to vent for a 2+ton condenser. you will have to deal with the condensation from a window unit too tho. this can be done by CAREFULLY drilling a 1/2 inch hole into the low spot on the bottom of your window unit cut all but 2-3 threads off a 1/2 inch male pvc adaptor and screw it into the hole your condensation will collect in this depression and go out the hole you drilled. Run the pipe to a drain or outside and you are done.
I would absolutely recommend getting a good minisplit tho if at all possible. put that condenser outside and enjoy cooling your gurls at reasonably low electric costs. If you don't know anything about a/c tho you really should hire someone to do it. Proper evacuation is critical to the longevity of your equipment.

Only thing I'd like to add is that LGs don't seem to be built to last. Maybe its just due to the extreme temp conditions here, heating in very cold temps and stuff but Toshiba, both Mitsubishi brands, Daikin, Sharp, Sanyo etc. seldom have problems.

As I recall it has been awhile they (mits) came pre charged for a 25'? lineset and really didn't require adjustment. I loved installing them real clean.

Yeah they are obviously not as durable but I don't need it to last forever. 3 years would be great

If its a small space with really pretty small amount of equipment, why not just get a dual hose portable ac unit, I use one and its fine...

neighbor runs a klimaire, it works good but is twice as loud as my daiken. Been running mine for over 2 years with 0 problems. he has had his for about the same time with same results. his was cheaper, so I would say he is winning on the money saving side, but I like not having my neighbors wonder what is running all the time.

a thin wood box with ventilation grill like for a furnace would work. not just a solid box that allows no airflow.
