good gaurd dog

Are you saying my pits arent "good"? Because i say they are perfect dogs. If they know you they will lick your face off. If they dont they will tear it off. They are in no way aggresive but extremely protective. Ive owned alot of breeds over the years and pits are the best overall dogs ive ever had. Very smart and great family dogs. Plus the simple sight of a pitbull is a deterent in its own. Im sorry but any dog that accepts a stranger so well is not a good dog no matter what the breed.

I had a red male Dobe and a female Rott at the same time. The Dobe was a rescue dog and came 3 years after the Rott. It was interesting to watch the dynamic of "alert" dog status change from the Rott to the Dobe. The Rott would eventually come to sleep thru the Dobe's initial alert barks until she sensed it was important enough to wake up and see if it required her intervention. I could never detect the change in the Dobe's vocalizations that caused her to wake up. Dobe was hyper vigilant. They both shed and liked to be brushed which I think helps to solidify the bond between you and them. I've thought that the Caucasian Ovcharka would make a guard and protection animal but would require a lot of socialization and training.
Bad ass dogs are one thing - who the hell doesn't think so, and then there's the flip side.
My dog (a ridge back/American terrier mix?) rode in the back of my truck all the time - chained up.
Coming back from the grocery store one day, another dog chased my truck barking his ass off. Of course my dog talked back & got himself really worked up. I even sped up to try & shorten the encounter - but things got worse.
Got home, backed into my driveway & without thinking unhooked the dog after picking up the groceries.
He jumped out of the truck & attacked a kid in the street that was being bullied by another boy - the kid got knocked down by another kid and then picked up by my dog by his leg.
The kid had to get quite a few stitches & I had to put my dog down.
Long and short of this is Bad Ass dogs may not be for everybody.
This guy is the complete opposite on the personality spectrum.

That's a good looking dog. Never heard of them before. Has a interesting breed history.
Unwavering loyalty without the aggressiveness.

My friend has a rotte and the first time I went to his house this big dog put it's head on my knee and a low rumble came from him. My friend had left the room and I thought the dog was guarding me like don't move but he just wanted me to pet him his a great dog but he will push ya around to get ya to pet him.

Akitas are exceptional dogs for protection of family and farm, an intruder may walk onto the property, they will not be walking off of it, akitas are on point 24/7/365 and on an intimidation scale of 1-10, they are 11+

We had one of these to guard us lol, he wasn't much good at guarding or looking intelligent he looked stoned most of the time he died last year I still miss him.

I have a Rotti and a rednose pitbull. If you want a great companion dog that doesn't shed much, pitbull is the way to go (although my male pit is only really protective at night and he tries to fight every male dog he sees). My Rotti, well great guard dog and very protective of the yard and the family (although a lil too aggressive). I would go with a rotti for property/family protection. They love to work, are loyal and they are great guard dogs with minimal work.
Also, pits wernt breed for protection. They are much more animal aggressive than they are human aggressive. Thats not to say they can't be taught to be gaurd dogs, because they can. Its just a lot more work.

Just get a sketchy ass pit... mine BUGS OUT on EVERYONE!!!! SWEET AS COULD BE... until you get close to my house (cats die around here)....I dump one every few months! and my shep... he's a protective ass dude!~ He'll go out a window on your ass! Open or not!

Well I own two pits that are trained very well and can tell ya that not even a squirrel could fart in my yard without them hearing and barking there asses off. They don't kill though just intimidate.

I stand by my Rotweiler.If you have a pit and someone wants in your house all they have to do is bring another pit to your house when your not home,and when the pits are fighting they clean you out of whatever they want to take.
Actually he is right. Pits werent bred to be guard dogs, they were bred to fight and be very human friendly so they could be handled by numerous strangers during fights. They have changed since then, they are basically ruined at this point. A good breed gone terribly wrong.
