Moving to Denver

So I've made the decision to move to Denver, hopefully within 30-45 days. Going to be looking at places in the Glendale/Washington park area, already found a few that are nice at a decent cost. Hoping to find a job trimming or working with marijuana in any way. I was wondering if anyone in this area had some advice for me, such as what are the places NOT to go to in Denver, How many plants can I grow with a Medicinal recommendation, Is it hard to find a job working with weed, or just anything you can think of. Might have a friend join but possibly going to be by myself. Going to have to rely on public transportation most likely and my education doesn't go further than a high school diploma. I'm currently 19 years old. Don't know if I'll make it out there but I can feel the excitement building inside as the days pass.

Put a Plan B into place because the MMJ career path is unlikely to pan out. Not to sound negative here, but there are very few jobs in that area, they do not pay well and there is still great instability in the business. Whatever you are doing now to earn a living may be what you need to do for a while or you can go to school to advance your skills to start a new, hopefully better paying career. Trimmers get paid 10-12 dollars an hour, you must have a working mmj license in order to work in the biz which is separate than your red card..and they are about 8-10 months behind just on appointments, and most places hire friends or family...with a med card you can grow 6 plants. 3 in veg 3 in flower, you are allowed to keep all of your harvest but are only allowed to have 2 ounces or under outside your house. You however do not need a card to grow or possess because of amend64 and the possession limit is 1 ounce. Move out here to freely smoke weed without state level,prosecution unless you are breaking the law like selling it. Dont move out here thinking weed will pay for everything or youll be leaving just as fast as you arrived

Wow really they're that far backed up? I wouldn't be able to just schedule a doc appointment and get one within a week or two? I'm not expecting weed to pay for everything I just want to be able to grow & smoke freely without prosecution as you said. What's the difference between the red card and the mmj license?

No the employment card is run by the state, the doc reccomendation has nothing to do with the employment part of it. You must meet with someone with the state to get your working license... When you get a doc note, it goes to a different state office for prcessing

My advice is move here get a normal job.. Get your red card and grow... Apply to get a license to work and in the mean time get to know dispensary owners and once you get your employment card you may akready have an in

Ahh I see. We'll even if I don't get to work with weed at least I'll be able to buy and grow legally. You got me worried for a sec I thought you meant it was months backed up just to get your red card. I don't mind working a dead end job for a little just to pay rent while I wait for the other card that allows me to work in the biz. Appreciate the help man, and I kinda figured what you said about trimmers mostly hiring friends or family. I know it's hard to trust people around that shit. I was hoping to find someone cool enough on here to let me work for them but that's a long shot especially since CO is so big I'm sure a very small amount actually live in Denver.

You can get your red card and shop at a dispensary the same day, specials running on craigslist all the time to get your business (and sign up as your caregiver so they can grow more plants). Winter is tough for folks from warm states and traffic can be brutal, but there is a pretty good public transportation system if you live near a stop or a station. Best advice I could give is to avoid bad neighborhoods as it isn't worth the savings on rent if you get robbed/panhandled all the time/burgled/fearful experiences... Better to live quietly in a nice area and be a stealth grower with no trace of the growing to neighbors. Try to live near where you work or go to school and joining a church is always a nice way to get connections with the community. Good luck!

I don't really know as I don't live in Denver, so I'll let someone else answer your question about those areas. There are nice mountain towns, Aspen, Vail, Avon, best to visit and see if the cosmos talks to you, you know, check to see if it feels right. If you are comfortable in the city you might like Denver, one way to find out for sure. But making a living in MMJ, best to not plan on that right away, as there are some barriers to entry and a for sure waiting list to get started. The whole weed thing is not really affecting stuff in CO noticeably. There will be some places opening next year that sell weed like liquor, but it is like if a new liquor store opens, not really news except for a day or so. Not having to worry about having the swat team busting the door down for growing a few plants under a light is comforting and I am glad to see that the end of prohibition is in sight now.

Depends on your definition of bad i guess. I am not a city person, so those areas are not my type of area, higher crime rates, but because of higher population i would imagine. I would move to the suburbs, but thats just me, lots of people like the city just fine.
Remember this though, you are only 19, so most places won't rent to you without verifiable income. Basically you need to have a job lined up before you get here, then you may have a chance at getting a place. Renting a room from someone might be a way around that, but finding a room and space to grow might be tough.

A lot of dispensaries are linked to doctors, and yes you can get your paperwork and doc rec at those dispensaries..you still need to send that paperwork into the state for procesing and wont get your actual red card or about a month or so but as lng as you have the paperwork and the mailing reciept you can buy until it comes in the mail....but be warned, they will try to get youtosign over your caregiver rights to them, which im sure youd want to shop around and find one you like

I've never really lived in the city before, the burbs would be nice but I get the feel it's a lot of money. Yeah my dad was planning on co-signing for me and I was hoping to go out there before the actual moving date and find a job. If I were to just get a studio or something small I'd invest in a grow tent.

I understand I won't be able to get the legal ganj, that's no big deal I have arthritis in my lower back which causes chronic pain constantly so I'm confident I can get my red card. I know growing is super hard, only had a few grows in my lifetime and they were all small closet grows. Figured I should start reading some horticulture books and learning by trial and error if I have too.

So your telling me I could actually walk into a dispensary beforehand and they would recommend me a doc or have one there on site? Do I HAVE to sign over my caregiver rights? I saw on a documentary they tried doing that. I bet there's some caregivers out there that supply some funk just as good or better than some dispensaries. Luckily the places I'm looking at are pretty much within walking distance from Denver Relief.

Check Craigs to see who is running a special, there are both doctor operations and dispensaries that have doctors who come by to run patients thru. Weemaps and the weekly magazine Westword have ads with specials also. Z is right, you need to be 21 under the new law, A 64, or 18-21 with a parent sign off under the medical card law, or of course 21 or older. The card holders can buy and transport up to 2 oz. In sum, you need to get a red (med) card to have or buy cannabis and will need a parent to sign for you. The doctor will be either at the dispensary or an office, depending where you go. Typically costs $60 or so, might need to add $35 for the state fee also. Some places offer free or reduced fees and sometimes free medicine if you sign over your caregiver rights. You have to decide if you would rather grow yourself or have a caregiver do it for you and you can always change your mind, but there is a waiting period, only fair because you caregiver invested in plants under your growing rights. Not too complicated, but there are a few details that you will need to work out.

There are a lot of cheap apartments near the big schools, might be an option to consider in case you decide to take a few classes.

Dude you can fuck off I've stated multiple times I'm not trying to move out there to strike it rich in the biz, I want to work with weed for the passion I have for it and experience a new place to live.

Quite a few people are tired of seeing the posts about people from TX or or MS who look for a connection to join the great cannabis gold rush in CO. Just to set the record straight, there is no cannabis gold rush. The existing dispensaries are struggling, not all of them, but like any small biz with high startup costs they are working hard to scratch out a profit and they seem to be failing more than succeeding. So for the people who think they can get rich in the weed biz in CO, sorry, bad news, it ain't happening, there just isn't enough consumption to support any great expansion beyond what is in place already.

But CO can be a nice place to live if you have a job and the bonus of legalized weed is a great perk. But selling weed can still get you put in jail, the law is clear about "no remuneration".

Wish I was 19 and starting out in a new place, I'd go to school and learn a high paying trade.
