Hunters- post your 2013 experiences here- tactics/techniques and changes, tips, success stories, etc

After hitting that doe back in July and gutting it up, I decided deer meat was far too tasty and economical to pass up on the opportunity for a chance to get more

Anyway- (copy/pasted this so the text is a bit off)

[h=5]slept outside last night, ~150-200 yards from suspected pre-rut buck roaming feeding spot and sure enough, just before the crack of dawn, heard scraping/rattling. 2pm- showered, dressed in fresh clothes, boots squirted with piss, went back to lay ground work. Multiple stands or bunkers will be constructed upwind of suspected & baited plots

stay tuned[/h]

Why do you put piss on your boots? Genuinely interested lol. I want to get into hunting one day when I can.

Got an eight point at 45ish yards with my bow from the porch this morning.
Does that count?

Really though, for me bow season is my shit, gone every morning so far. Glass em out and stalk hunt them.

Impatiently awaiting bear season, it's about a month off and there are three that I've regularly seen on my property(7 acres) in the past two weeks.

I just started hunting this season and have spent most of the time trying to find the area I want to hunt, and I found these areas. I'll be hunting out of a ground blind. I will also be recording my kills in 1080p.
This first pic is where I will be tomorrow. On the other side of that tree laying down is a path that deer use often, and not to far from that path is a scrape that I had made bigger and poured some buck urine around the edges.

These next 2 pics is of several hundred acres overlooking some soybean crops. Will be hunting these areas also.

This is a doe that I called in with my primos buck roar call. I'm not hunting does at the moment so she was safe.

How can you stand living somewhere so flat?
Idk what I'd do if I wasn't in the mountains.

Must ask, why a ground blind over a tree stand if still hunting?
Personally do not enjoy still hunting, but if I must, I am in a stand.

There are plenty of mountains where I live just not in these pics. I'm hunting from a ground blind because I prefer it and feel it's more challanging than being completely out of the deers vision and mostly out of their scent path.

ill also stalk hunt when I get tired of sitting.

Ahh, to me blinds are too claustrophobic, hence why I use a stand if I am on the rare occasion still hunting.

From the pics I would of though you were in the south, sooooooo flat lol.

Stalk hunting is the best imho. Like actual tracking and whatnot.

Got me a nice chair to sit in with my crossbow resting on a bipod with my camera setup next to me on a tripod. That's another reason.. I'm filming..

You need to ditch that crossbow and get a Bowtech:bigjoint:

Just kidding, personally I cannot stand a crossbow compared to my bow, but to each their own.
Minus when the string almost rips my nipple off, hurts like a stupid cunt.

That is a nice looking blind though.
Cheers

I went hunting today and I forgot to get my wildlife management area license add-on and ran into the game warden while I was out hunting today. The fee for not having the license is 10 dollars, but will be waived when I go to court with the license....However, I am being charged 233.85 for court costs. WTF.

Now for a little back story... I've been hunting this morning since 7am up until 2pm and during this time I was having to deal with this guy training his dogs to hunt rabbit. I am hunting on over 10,000 acres of state land and I get to deal with someone coming to my area with barking dogs. Well, I start to pack up and leave and during this process the guy comes and apologizes to me he didn't realize I was back there (cause naturally my truck wasn't a dead give away). Talked to him while I packed up my stuff and then headed out to go eat lunch and then I came back to my spot. The guy was gone and probably 45min after I get setup 2 game wardens just happen to be strolling through my part of the woods on this vast amount of acreage..Hmmmmm, wonder who called them? They were first talking about how I wasn't supposed to be parked back that far because the road didn't have gravel on it so therefor I am not allowed to drive on it.

After showing my confusion for the road non road issue they start asking me random questions and ask to see my hunting license. I have my small game and fish and big game archery combo, but not the wma portion.. Ooops. First year hunting on the wma land and didn't know I was supposed to have it. The game warden that I am talking to proceeds to tell me that I can order my WMA license from my phone, I say ok and proceed to order it from my phone all while packing up my blind and equipment cause this has just completely ruined my day. During the packing of my stuff the game warden starts grabbing shit out of my storage compartment on my chair. He pulls out one part of my turkey call and asks (is this for a turkey call?) (ME) yea, and pull out the plate and hand it to him to show him.. (WARDEN), its not turkey season...(ME) I know, is it illegal to have a turkey call when its not turkey season? (warden)No but it doesn't look good. Then he tells me to meet them over by my truck when I get done packing up my stuff so I say ok, finish up and head to the truck. Upon arriving at my truck I notice that he has a citation waiting for me.. Yippeeee.....

Now I need to figure out a way to get out of the court costs and I'll be good.

I'm guessing .243 - .245 isn't a standard bore size (or even a wildcat I've heard of).

What is your intended game/target - deer ?
