Is it ok to use Miracle-Gro or will it nute burn the babys/plants resulting in less harvest or dead plant?

I noticed in the book it says to use Miracle-gro with ferts already in it. I've had a lot of people tell me using Mircale-gro will cause the babys and plants to get nute burn. Should a different type of soil be used? and what about nutes for and vegetative state? Thanks and sweet book.
