bluelab is quality. their truncheon (EC meter) doesnt need calibration, and it's got a 5 year warranty. cost like 105$ on ebay.
Or you can buy a cheapo meter, and have to replace them when they break, and constantly buy calibration solutions

I've never had a pump fail on me.
If you use a system with no medium (aero or dwc/ebb n flow with no hydroton) then your plants are more susceptible to dying. If your roots are in hydroton, they can last longer...
you can flush for a week or so before harvest. just use plain water.
