I was told when the plant is the size of the pot used, turn on the system, As above so is below. That general rule has worked for me.

Soil: Mother Earth Coco-Peat Performance Blend for veg. Flower Nutrients: Dyna-Gro - Grow, Bloom and Mag-Pro. Growing in a 5 gal. Grow-Bucket with 5 gal. reservoir. Tent: 2.5 x 2.5 and light is a Mars-Hydro TS1000, pretty inexpensive setup.

Osmocote is not specifically formulated for cannabis so you need to monitor runoff for pH and PPM and adjust your water every time you water. Not the case with Grow Dots as it is formulated for cannabis. Now that's not to say you won't ever experience an issue but it works pretty well with Autos.
