Un-Refrigerated breeders & banks

How'bout a thread to blast all the inconsiderate/improper storage of seeds for sale.

So many bad practices are documented on social media....
so I'm starting to drop them here.
This online bank keeps his gear on shelves and in glass showcases in a storefront.

Breeder kagyu also stores his gear on shelves. Short term OK but this dude is close to retirement age. This gear will be marked-up after he's no longer with us.

So when you have a low-germ rate maybe question how those beans were stored by the breeder and bank before you bought em l.

Agreed.

You don’t often see ANY mention of seed storage protocols at banks.

I think Herbies refrigerate and list it if memory serves correctly. Probably the only one to stand on this service.

But not just cold storage is the issue. When the beans were made would be nice.
Then I would only buy stuff under 3 years old.

And if people sell stuff older than 3 years they should germinate a pack every year and publish the % strike rate.

Use a seed bank with years of happy customers. They most certainly will stand behind the seeds they sell. Easy peasy.

(Dave) AK Bean Brains has spoken about this briefly in his Potcast. He has a commercial walk-in freezer at home for meat/fish storage, and he keeps his seeds inside a cooler, in that walk-in. He says he can go inside and pick out stuff without ever having to take anything out of cold storage. That gives me confidence when ordering. I wish more people would be open about their breeding/business practices.

If there not sat long refrigeration isnt even needed if there sat a while then definitely for sure imo short term storage a cool dark place is good enough but most refrigerate or freeze there seeds ime anyway if they sell them tbh i was shocked when i seen those pics hell even our old grow shop thats sadly no more now had the brains to keep em out the light and somewhere cool
