Outdoor show an tell 2025

Is there a doctor in the house?

Some leaves on some of the hemp seedlings are partially turning white, not sure exactly what's going on. Don't think I've seen this before.

Guesses:

  1. "Sunburn" from moving them outside into full sun too quickly without hardening off sufficiently (I would think "sunburn" would affect the entire leaf, not just parts of it, but not sure I've seen it before). They've been outside a solid week now, with some full sun most of the day on several days.

  2. Root burn from alfalfa meal tea that's too strong--I added a handful (for me that's roughly 3/4 cup) of alfalfa meal to 4 gallons of aerated compost tea, which also had about a cup of finished compost in it, plus 2 tablespoons of molasses and a pinch of humic acid. This whitening appeared after they got their first dose of compost tea (although that could be coincidence), I'm not sure exactly what the time lag was between the tea and the white, maybe a few days. I figured at this stage the seedlings were big enough to handle a low-moderate strength alfalfa meal tea, but maybe I misjudged. I know you have to pretty careful with alfalfa.

  3. Something else?

The new growth looks fine, hopefully this is just a brief little glitch that they'll overcome. It's just some of the hemp plants. I gave them some more plain water today (actually, it had a little potassium silicate and epsom salts dissolved into it for K and magnesium), maybe I should hold off on any more alfalfa meal until they recover.

Thanks for any opinions or experience with this.
Thats sunburn have seen it many times.

Still cold here in MI, few days during the week are nice but mostly pretty cold. I plan on popping my seeds in the next couple of days and keeping them inside until Memorial Day weekend.

So far I plan on running mostly seeds from Greenhouse seeds. I had looked at these last seasons but opted to go with something different that turned to hell! Hopefully these will do well in my climate. I do feel like I need to add a NL to my grow this season, I have never grown a NL outdoor, seems sacrilegious not to have right?. NL #5?
