New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

Had an interesting time earlier :D I have 3 carbon filters hanging from the ceiling (one from the veg room and two from the flower tents). The veg room fan/filter always looked a little precarious but I was hoping it would be ok... yesterday the filter fell down :( Didn't do any damage but I...

what type of extension cord for AC

OP said they needed 25 feet... I was just trying to highlight why 12 AWG wasn't necessary :)

Relay triggered from 110/120vac but carries 240v load?

That's not really an answer lol 10-25 dollars? Don't be cheap! Why not spend $100? or screw it if you can't afford $1000 for a contractor just give up and grow outside. If we applied that logic to everything we'd all give up or go broke. If it meets the specs for the application then there's...

what type of extension cord for AC

9000 BTU will use just under 10A at 110V. You need 2.5mm (14 AWG) twin core and earth flex cable which will carry 27A upto 30m (98 feet) before you lose over 5% of your voltage. If you need more than 100 feet then you'd need 4mm (12 AWG) to keep your voltage up.

Relay triggered from 110/120vac but carries 240v load?

You could use a relay or a contactor for this application. A contactor would cost 2-3 times more and have double the terminals to wire up. So I can't really see any advantage in picking a contactor? The $3.75 relay I linked to is rated at 6kW 240V so would handle the load easily. Genuinely would...

Relay triggered from 110/120vac but carries 240v load?

You could use this (select 110V version) for $5.99: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400986323109 110V (L and N) goes through "power" and 240V (L in and L out) goes through "switch". You could set it to always on if you want the grow room controller to control it or you can use the inbuilt programmable...

Every single seed has germinated nicely and are looking really healthy... except the Blueberry! Are they all just bunk? Is that why they were freebies and why I was having so much trouble at the start?! Take a look for yourself... decent progress by all the seedlings but nothing from Blueberry...

    Remote control kill switch

Not sure anyone has posted anything like this before... so I thought I'd post up a quick DIY. I have a loft grow room going on. It's not audible from outside the house but 2 of the fans (room intake and extractor) are audible from inside when there's no background noise in the house... and are...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

Hey guys, Haven't had an update as I've been too busy and the seedlings I started earlier never made it past the incident with the zinc hose clips dissolving into the water :( After trying to keep them going they were just not doing anything and it seemed pointless to put so much energy into...

    New project ideas

Your plan is to move 8 plants vegged for 6 weeks... in 7 gallon buckets... Into your car? Wtf? You can't be serious!? Taking the tent down (a one hour job) is the least of your worries!

Should I be able to find a 12 inch to 6 inch duct reducer in my area?

How about 2 reducers? 12 to 8 and then 8 to 6 should be easy to find. Just tape them together and bingo? Edit: beaten to it, lol

    Fake CFLs?

Well it was just supposed to be a spare lamp in case I have an emergency with my main lights or heat/ventilation. I just needed something simple I can plug in and not stress about :( Don't really want to be using fake lights (can I trust they're safe?).

    Fake CFLs?

Anyone else have experience with fake CFLs? I have two CFLs lamps, firstly a "125w" Pro-Star 6500k lamp which came bundled with some other stuff I bought a couple months back. Eventually I decided to use it for seedlings... I tested it at 85w on a watt meter. Thinking I might have faulty wiring...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

Had a bit of a disaster over the weekend. I had cheapo chinese hose clips on all hose connections out of my chiller. They were zinc plated which I thought would be fine under water... wrong! On Saturday I noticed the pH had risen to 8.2 so added a bit of pH down... but the pH barely moved, so I...

Self Draining, Self Filling + More Hydroponic Cloning Machine

The question is... why? It's a cloner. pH shouldn't be changing much. You don't really need nutes (and if you want to add some they're not going to be getting used up heavily). Self draining and filling? Why? If you were talking about a bigger scale automated whole system then people would be...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

Nah I havent had any electronics training apart from some basics at school aged 9-11 messing with batteries, LEDs and motors! Oh! and I remember wiring up a mains electric plug at school when I was about 15 too :D Thanks for the advice. I've just changed my cloner water again (am doing it...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

Yup, side of the tank should be fine. The principal of a peltier is that is takes heat from one side and transfers it to the other side. So one side gets cold and one gets hot. If u attach the cold side to the side of the water tank that should be fine. In an aeroponic cloner the water is...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

Bit of an update... Seedlings seemed to be doing ok but not perfect. I noticed some dark spots on the 1st true leaves on the Blueberry seedling a couple of days ago. Then yesterday evening I noticed the roots all had a very light brown colouring :( They're still in the clone king and I hadn't...
