Strain Chasing - Can it be a dead end?

I stopped buying from local dispensaries for a similar reason - I'd find a particular strain I really liked, but it wouldn't stick around. Growing my own, if I find a plant I like I can (a) have way more of it than I'd buy at the store, and (b) clone it and grow it again. Keep in mind if you're...

    Clones with possible pm

Powdery mildew is not systemic. If you don't notice it until later in the grow, either you weren't looking carefully enough, or it developed on its own due to environmental factors conducive to its growth. I agree with the above post about not taking in clones from outside. I've never done it...

Plants dont recover after overwatering and transplanting =/

Never tried wicks in regular pots myself. I imagine it would take a bit of trial and error to get the proper wick size/pot size ratio... I do grow my larger plants in sub-irrigated planters, which use a similar principle, with a small section of the soil resting in water to act as a wick...

Plants dont recover after overwatering and transplanting =/

I don't weigh mine with a scale, but it's always surprising how light/dry they can get, and still be totally fine. All the plants in your recent pics should be able to go at least a few days without needing anything at all, the ones on the right in the larger pots maybe up to a week at that...

Plants dont recover after overwatering and transplanting =/

I'm not a pro by any means, but I do grow in organic soil... Those 9cm square pots should be good until they get a root system established. I find it easier to water baby plants when they're in small pots anyway. I'd let the pots get light between waterings, give them a good soak when you do...

    Mothers and cuttings

There's no hard and fast rules, but you probably want to wait until you can take cuttings that are 3-4 inches long, with 3-4 leaf nodes on them (assuming you remove the bottom leaf or two from the cutting when you put it in the rooting medium). One common practice is to use the tops as clones...

    Questions about my plants

How does it smell? I would only worry if it smells like sewage or some other nastiness. Otherwise as said above it's nothing to worry about, just fungi doing their thing. I get some crazy mold underneath the mulch on my soil sometimes, too

Plants dont recover after overwatering and transplanting =/

OP, don't get distracted by this coco vs soil talk. Just don't overwater your seedlings, whether that's by watering less or less frequently, or by increasing the aeration in the potting mix, or both. And don't transplant them when they've only got 4 baby leaves, you're just asking for a long...

Plants dont recover after overwatering and transplanting =/

I still think they will recover with time, but if you do start new seeds, it might be better to let them dry out significantly before adding water, even if it means the soil isn't optimally moist at all times. At least until they have an established root system. Seedlings need surprisingly...

    How are these looking?

Am I the only one who's kinda doubtful these are actually autoflowers? Cuttings put on 12/12 to show sex? Would that even work with autos? And who sells/buys non-feminized autoflowers anyway?

    How are these looking?

Dunno. There is very little (reliable) info out there about cloning autoflowers. If they're actually photoperiod clones then it would help them switch back to veg. How certain are you that they're actually autos?

    How are these looking?

So someone gave you rooted cuttings from an autoflowering plant? I'd keep them on 24 hours lighting if that's the case...

Plants dont recover after overwatering and transplanting =/

Wow, I'm surprised you were able to transplant them at that size at all. Not too surprising that they're taking a bit of time to bounce back. As long as they aren't getting worse just be patient and let them do their thing...

Organic for new growers, dont bother with bottles...

Agree, I mostly use Espoma dry fertilizers and try to be as water-only as possible. Seems like the simplest, lowest-effort grow methods also happen to be organic (or at least organic-friendly). I guess Grow Dots or Osmocote-type products are similar in terms of ease of use, but I'm not aware of...

What's Your Soil Mix These Days?

Yup it is, I just checked my trusty bag of tomato-tone

What's Your Soil Mix These Days?

I think the recommendation from Espoma is 2 cups per cubic foot (7.5 gallons) for most of their products. So for 5 gallons that's like 1+1/3 cups. You can always start with less and top-dress more/more often as they grow.

What's Your Soil Mix These Days?

5.5 cups of amendments per 5 gallons sounds like way too much. For your first time, I would use the peat/perlite/compost base you described, and fertilize with one of the many all-purpose organic blends like Espoma, Dr Earth, Down-to-Earth, etc, following the directions on the package for...

Going crazy if this is bud rot

One easy way to tell, which doesn't require a magnifying glass, is to kinda scrape or scratch at the suspect bits in front of a dark background. Mold spores will look like a little puff of smoke floating off the bud when you do that. Trichome heads will also fly away when you do that, but will...

    Seedling feeding question.

A solo cup of coco in 3 gallons of soil isn't going to hurt anything. Since it's in coco now, just feed as you normally would in coco until it's big enough to transplant. 3 gallons might be a bit small if you're only going with dry amendments in the final pot. Check out the "official" Gaia...

Powdery Mildew and Spider mites in the grow room. How to restart the system

Good point about the spider mites. Folks worry about them hiding out for months, but I figured they would only hibernate or remain dormant in eggs if the temps drop to signal winter coming...
