You could try trimming some of the lower leaves and branches. It will add more circulation lower on the plant (cooling) and reduce the burden of moisture the plants needs to provide.

You do want both with in reasonable amounts, to much of either will cause a lock out of the other as well as other nutrients.

It works, in the sense that it takes moisture from the air. But as for lowering humidity not so much. It may have worked better, if I emptied it any time moisture that had accumulated in the bottom. I even tried kitty liter in the bottom but that didn't help much either. Even just cracking...
